I thought that is were a RB is suppose to line up most of the time

Bill Belichick approves this message.

His ypc was fairly impressive.

I'm less and less convinced that he's an effective offensive player.

He gets into a groove at times. But he’s still not really that big. When JC gets back next year, I’m not sure what Dex’s role will be.

2012 Chiefs Draft Picks by Falcon58: G DeCastro 1st round, NT Ta'amu 2nd round or OT Adcock 2nd/3rd round, TE Egnew 3rd round, RB Ganaway 5th/6th, QB Case Keenum 5th/6th. Resign: Carr, Bowe, Orton, McClain, Gordon(in that order). Trade Dorsey for picks, promote Gordon to DT/DE.

Strikes me as a Haley pick

more than a Pioli pick. Everyone likes to criticize for Pioli’s ability to micromanage, but throughout the duration of Haley’s tenure I was always impressed how much say Todd had over his final roster

He should still be the guy to catch passes out of the backfield, and be put in 1 on 1 situations like he should have been to begin with.

by Topchief1 on Jan 20, 2012 4:51 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Oh please, it is time to stop with the "he's not that big" platitudes.

He is approximately the same size as Derran Sproles. All McCluster needs is a coach and offensive coordinator who know how to use him. Could everybody just cool it with the same old lame stuff about how big a guy is?

Had JC been healthy I’m sure this wouldn’t have been the case

I think they gave up on dex at slot a little too easy.

He maid some plays at wr last year. I would like to see him get some more looks in the slot. Granted that requires a qb who can go through progressions and deliver a quick accurate ball.

I think that had more to do with JC getting hurt

I think he developed well this year.

He’s not big enough to be the feature back, which he was basically forced to do this year. He won’t have to do that next year, and he should be a good player to have on the field just to make opposing defenses account for him.

Todd Haley lost 7 of his last 15 games by 20 or more points. It was time for him to go.

If Cassel is the QB next year

I see Dex getting blown up on screen passes like this year

True enough

That’s one thing Orton was, without question, way WAY better at than Cassel: play fakes and screens.

Decent change of pace RB.

I like him at RB. Worst case scenario, barring injury, is that Charles gets around 20 carries a game, and Dexter 5-10, with the remainder going to Battle or whoever we end up with.

He’s obviously not going to be much of a game changer, but he’s a useful player that can spell Charles without losing all the speed.

If he used like he was in the last 3 games

he can become a big game changer

Depends on the OC

Whoever he is, he will be walking into an OC’s dream with all of our weapons….thats also figuring we keep Bowe and Orton.

How long should you try? Until.

arenas is a far better returner, but on offense, i think mccluster is starting to figure it out

lets hope he can be our kevin faulk or ronnie harmon, quality 3rd down back who can catch and take that screen to the house

When Arenas is going to a shot to be the feature back? He accounted for 20% of our rushing touchdowns and 5% of our total touchdowns.

Not entierly true

That punt was fielded at the what….40 yard line? You do get the ball after receiving a punt and you do get to run offensive plays. People make it sound like it was some MeSean-like buzzer beater punt return

Standing on the corner in a white Godfather hat. He drives a long black gangster Cadillac. He can steal a broads mind, man, in three or four minutes. It’s not how long you talk, brother, it’s what you put in it.

C'mon Man!

I know you HATE the pick but give the man his due!!!

That was a 94 yard punt return (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0b-aS6KkdY) fielded at the 6.

That was a game changing TD.

I don’t agree with the original post that we don’t make the playoffs without that but to say it was fielded at the 40 is CRAZY!

DIdn't remember it being a 90+ yarder

Still, we would have gotten the ball.

I understand that but it was one HELL of a return!

I get that he hasn’t done much, if anything, other than that and he was a luxury pick.

I think with a legit OC and Charles back he could be something special.

All things considered I want a top QB or beef (to steal your line) on either side of the ball in this draft!

how did it do the rest of that charger game

thats the real juice of it

how many times did the offense take us to the end zone in that game after the mccluster return. not to mention the carr fumble recovery set up early points

Are you really saying you think Cassel (in this game especially) could have drove us down for a touchdown before halftime?

I don't want to be dumb.

So I’m sure not going to call him a bust.

by Tarkus on Jan 20, 2012 6:09 PM CST up reply actions

I don't think he's a bust

He had a respectable YPC this year, can return kicks and punts, and can be a terrific receiver out of the backfield (on wheel routes instead of overly predictable screens to the LoS). As a backup and situational player, I’m not sure he warranted a 2nd round pick (it would have been nice to have Rob Gronkowski right now). At the same time, I imagine this season would have been even more difficult to watch if JC got hurt and we didn’t have DMC to back him up. Overall, I wouldn’t say it was a wasted pick but we also didn’t get the best value at that pick.

by Chiefs4Life on Jan 20, 2012 6:57 PM CST up reply actions

He played 83% of the time every time....

Whoever, the OC is, I think McCluster has been under-utilized in the passing game. The bubble screens are great to get him in space but it seems like that is the only play they use him on in the pass game. He needs to be in the slot and run those intermediate routes underneath a la Wes Welker and get downfield. This guy has the ability to bust out and be a force in the run/pass game.
