Cassel ready for some consistency at OC
Watching very closely the decision by Coach Romeo Crennel on an offensive coordinator is QB Matt Cassel. In the last four years with two different teams, Cassel has worked with five different offensive coordinators – Josh McDaniels (2008 in New England), Chan Gailey and Todd Haley (2009 in KC), Charlie Weis (2010) and Bill Muir (2011)

The question is
Can we find a coordinator that can help Cassel overcome his shortcomings, help hide those flaws and keep the team competitive and in a position to beat the best in the league?
I don’t think there is a coordinator out there that can. Even Harbaugh didn’t really do much with Alex Smith besides limit his mistakes, just like Weis did with Cassel. They kicked a LOT of field goals in San Fran this season, and luckily for them, Alex Smith had the best game of his career when the team needed it the most. But he was also a #1 overall pick in the draft, and he has some talent, while the same cannot and may not be able to be said about Cassel.
We want any chance to be consistently competitive, we have to either dump Cassel for something better, or have a historical defense.

and hope the defense can even do it themselves.
i think alex smith and the niners wont be able to beat giants because giants have a defense AND a Qb. We need a QB…
The 49ers already beat them once this year

That Giants team and this Giants team are very different.

About to beat them again
Harbaugh is about to go on a run that will make us all forget about Bill Walsh
Standing on the corner in a white Godfather hat. He drives a long black gangster Cadillac. He can steal a broads mind, man, in three or four minutes. It’s not how long you talk, brother, it’s what you put in it.
Hopefully
we dont stick with Cassel, since he has shown no positive aspect in his QB play. He’s basically done if he gets down by a touchdown, and the only consistency he has shown is his amazing ability to go three and out.
Tell Matt
I’m ready for some consistency at the QB position.

People are far too negative towards Cassel
He is not nearly as bad as all the people on AP think, and shows that they don’t have a good understanding of the position… As Andrew33 demonstrated by saying he has shown no positive in his WR play.
Hey, I want a new QB too… but the way people bash shows their lack of knowledge of the position. There here are things he does do well.
And the Chiefs really haven’t done much to help him with the roller coaster of OCs and play callers he has had since he has been here. I think people greatly underestimate how important consistency is, and how difficult it is to constantly switch systems.
yea but um
He is that bad.

Cassel will improve with Haley gone.
Not only did Haley not fully trust Cassel, but his often too conservative and predictable playcalling put Cassel in too many 3rd and long situations. Didn’t he make the probowl in 2010? Didn’t he have a QB rating of 93? Didn’t Dwayne Bowe lead all WR’s in TD receptions in 2010? Did Bowe pass the ball too himself? No Cassel isn’t Brady or Brees, but he can be a consistent top 10 QB in this league, if given the support he needs. I’m not ready to bury him yet. I know I am in the minority on this site, but I remember alot of Cassel love in 2010.
There once was a man from Nantucket......Nevermind.
Rookie QBs with no off season programs played bette than Cassel, Cassel is what he is
Decent QB against poor teams, below average QB against .500 or better teams. Time to stop making excuses for him and call him what he is. A back-up QB
Because those teams built their offense around them to help them succeed, the Chiefs didn't
And when Charles went down they didn’t know how to adjust.
Also, I like lots of what Haley did for the Chiefs, but he doesn’t know how to coach a QB, and everything he did stripped Cassel of some of his confidence, and tried to ask him to not lose the game, which is harder than asking someone to just go out and play.
So much misinformation
The Chiefs gave Cassel a running game so he wouldn’t have to throw it.
They’ve given him big possesson receivers in Bowe and Baldwin, you know, so he can throw in a ten foot window and they’ll catch it.
The Chiefs are built for Cassel. But Cassel isn’t going to carry us through the playoffs ever. He’d be great for a team looking for a steady QB that won’t make mistakes while they’re rebuilding a team… wait… that’s what he did for us.
Now we got the team, it’s time to find someone that can drive the ball downfield.

The problem is not the procession of offensive coordinators.
Look how many different offensive coordinators, systems, coaches, and stuff Kyle Orton has had over the same period. Orton (who is by most estimations middle of the road) as far a quarterbacks go (at best) and in two weeks of learning the system moved the team far better than Matt Cassel has in 2.6 years. The videos and stats don’t lie. Cassel was blown off the road by a “fair to middlin” quarterback. What Cassel needs is a challenge for his job. Either he can meet it or he won’t. I am a former Cassel supporter, and I think he is a good guy but he has not “shown” he is a good quarterback. If he is a good quarterback, he needs competition and he needs to prove he is the top of the heap. I think he couldn’t even beat out Orton if it came down to it.

All I see on that list is some of the best offensive minds in football
And they still can’t turn him into a great QB.
Nicknames I have coined:
Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'
Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'
