Chiefs College Scouting Director Interviewing For Bears GM Job Today
Phil Emery, Kansas City Chiefs director of college scouting, is scheduled to interview with the Chicago Bears for their vacant general manager position, according to multiple reports. We first heard about Emery on the Bears interview-list last week.
Emery joined the Chiefs in 2009, the same year as GM Scott Pioli. He has a presence in the draft room as the team's college scouting director. Emery has been in football for 31 years having previously served as the Atlanta Falcons college scouting director.
He does have ties to Chicago as he was an area scout for the Bears from 1998-04.
The other candidates on the list include Tim Ruskell (interim GM), Jason Licht of the Patriots, Jimmy Raye of the Chargers and Marc Ross of the Giants.

No fighting in the war room...
And apparently no secrets in the war room either. I’m guessing Chicago will have a pretty good idea what our draft strategy will be.
Hopefully the phone tapping equipment can be used on the other teams…
KC biggest draft needs and Chicago's needs this year are quite different...
Chi already has a franchise-type QB and runs a 4-3 defence, and they drafted Camrimi last year so they are set at RT as well. I doubt the “board” has been constructed at this point in time either
Gee, if Pioli is such a dictator
I’m shocked that he let Emery out of his cage.

Emery isn't his guy, so I'm sure he wouldn't be sad to see him leave
Nicknames I have coined:
Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'
Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'
Emery joined the Chiefs in 2009, the same year as GM Scott Pioli
Because this guy magically appeared at the same time as Pioli without being Pioli’s guy.
Or of course we can quote War Room directly:
Dimitroff had worked with Phil Emery for a year adn had ben awed by him. Emery handled his demotion from college director to national scout gracefully so much so that Dimitroff told him “I think you deserve another chance. If anything comes up, I’ll help you get it.”… When Pioli moved to Kansas City and began making changes in the organization, it made sense for Dimitroff: Pioli and Emery were a match.
Pioli and Emery has met just once, briefly, about ten years earliet in Syracuse. But it was as if Emery possessed every quality that the Chiefs needed.
I guess you can make the case that Emery was Dimitroff’s guy and recommended to Pioli. But Pioli brought him in and War Room seems to make it sound like it is to this day a very good working relationship.
Tebow might know Jesus, but Bill Muir is old enough to have actually babysat him in the manger.
Not good. We saw what happened last time Pioli went into a draft with an unsettled scouting staff.
But good luck to Emery. He seems like a great guy from what I’ve read, hope he lands the opportunity.
