Tracking Todd Haley
Former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley has now been unemployed for well over a month. The Chiefs fired him on Dec. 13 and Haley has been connected to a few jobs since then.
If you're curious what the former head coach has been up to, here's a run down of where we've seen his name mentioned recently?
Arizona Cardinals: The very first Haley rumor connected him to his former team, the Cardinals. Ken Whisenhunt is still the head coach and it was believed that there was some interest on both sides to get something done but Arizona area reporters (like Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic) are now saying that's unlikely to happen. The Cards only opening may be at quarterbacks coach, which would be a step back in Haley's career right now.
New York Jets: Tony Sparano was hired as the offensive coordinator in New York and at one point people thought Haley and Sparano would be a package deal. Haley interviewed with the Jets but New York area reporters (like Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News) have since said that Haley's not expected to join the staff.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Nope, he's not interviewing in Pittsburgh or anything but Bruce Arians, the Steelers offensive coordinator, may not return in 2012. If he doesn't, you have to wonder if Haley would be a candidate. Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (via Arrowheadlines) dropped Haley's name in a column about potential offensive coordinators if Arians is indeed gone.
That's about it right now. The Cards and the Jets are the only two rumors that had some legs while the Steelers thing is just throwing out names at this point.

I bear no ill will towards Haley.
That being said…I don’t really give a shit where, when, or if he gets another job.
My earliest Chiefs memories are watching guys named Dawson, Podolak, Taylor, Thomas, Bell, and Buchanan. So, yeah...I'm kind of an old fart.
I'm free to comment, Tarkus...same as everyone else.

Haley shot himself in the foot with his behavior as the Chiefs Head Coach.
The temper tantrums, the not working well with OC’s and other coaches, the determination to be defiant toward the GM bu continuing to play Palko, the unkempt appearance….yeah, I don’t think Haley was putting his best foot forward for continued employment in the NFL. Mind Boggling.
... and the team never showed the decency to give him Charlie Weis' golfcart!

The man is a cancer.

If the Chiefs hire Josh McDaniels, I will cancel my season tickets -- phew!
Can't imagine it's easy explaining in interviews why he thought he was being bugged & followed

I wish things had gone differently with Haley
but near the end, his behavior and stubbornness was costing us wins. The insistence on playing Palko, the crappy play calling process, the sideline behavior, the behavior toward our players, it was all destroying the team and ruined our playoff chances. That makes me mad, and honestly shows that he shouldn’t be an NFL coach.
I would love to hear him explain why he did all of these things in his interviews
You know the main question will be why would he not bench Palko

Agreed. That is where Haley lost me.
Our offense was broken and he did not take steps to correct the situation. When I look back and see that we wasted four starts on Tyler “f-ing” Palko I just want to pull my hair out.

"Well I just didn't think Stanzi was ready for it."
Well you MAY have thought that, but it was 100% clear that Palko DEFINITELY wasn’t ready for it.

I have said many times that Palko did not deserve to
be on any NFL roster let alone being the number 2 quarterback of the Chiefs. Stanzi could not have been any worse than Palko even if he was an unprepared rookie. Palko has seen his last down as an NFL player.

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
Blame Pioli
Pioli is to blame for this lousy pick of a head coach in Todd Haley,it makes you wonder about Piolis decision making also. Look out Scott you could be next to exit arrowhead stadium.this year will be crucial in your draft and free agent signings.by sticking with cassel and not bringing in any competition will be the end of the patriot way.

Probably a step back for the Cards too.
The Cards only opening may be at quarterbacks coach, which would be a step back in Haley’s career right now.
yeah that makes absolutely zero sense, lets hire the guy who had admitted that qb's are not his strong point
then there is also the whole putting palko on roster, then at the 2, then playing him thing

I tend to believe that the toxicity between Haley & Pioli had to have worked both ways...and
Haley wasn’t prepared to handle the way it went.
That said, a good manager should be able to guide their employee appropriately – so apparently Pioli wasn’t prepared to handle the situation either.
I hope Haley gets an opp somewhere, even if it’s a demotion (like so many get). He has the ability, just needs to mature in how to work with others – employers & employees alike.
I also hope the crap with Pioli isn’t blacklisting Haley…

What a difference a season makes!
Haley was named Coach of the Year, by some media outlets, or organizations, and was mentioned by many to be a candidate for the real Coach of the Year (whoever it is who determines that, I can’t keep up with all of the awards, and which ones hold any credence). By his own behaviors, he is now seen by many as an out of control, paranoid lunatic. It’s sad actually. He does have a family, who are hearing all of the “crazy” reports about him, and it likely is a factor in him not yet being hired by anyone. I hold no ill will towards the guy as a person, but I am angered by how he appeared to allow his personal feelings and ego, effect his coaching. I’m sure that Pioli and Hunt are also guilty, in some aspects, and there are always 2 sides of a story, which we may never hear. I thnk the employees speaking out show that there are likely issues with how the organization is run, which falls on the management and owner, not Haley.
There once was a man from Nantucket......Nevermind.
i believe he earned a coach of the year...and if raheem was in kc he would have got it, but thats another argument.
im not sure who is at fault here
but i dont believe haley being crazy explains everything….to me…pioli is just as much at fault
of course if romeo succeeds, it wont matter, but i really thought they had something going, and if they had a full offseason instead of the lockout, the guys would have been in shape, houston would have contributed earlier, etc

its funny to see people on other sites speculate about haley
pft actually thought that haley wouldnt take a qb coach job because its such a step down from head coach….
no….haley wont take a qb coach job because he had admitted that hes not good with qb’s, or something to that effect, and really that would make zero sense. might as well have todd run special teams if you want him to be the qb coach
