Remember Elvis Grbac......
I don't know how many of you guys remember Elvis Grbac. He was the starting Chiefs QB back about twenty years ago and his back up then was Rich Gannon. Elvis wound up getting hurt in a game and old Marty ( Schottenheimer) was the Chiefs coach back then. Well he put in Gannon because he was the back-up QB and he did a better job then Grbac and won some very impressive victories for the Chiefs. Well, we made the playoff riding a hot streak with Gannon at the helm. But since alot of coaches feel if a starting player gets hurt( Marty among them) that that player should not lose his starting job. All the Chiefs fans back then wanted Gannon to get the QB job but old Marty stuck buy his guns and said when healthy, Grbac will be the starter. Needle to say Grbac got his starting job back and we lost the game. My point is, if you got a guy under center and your team starts playing better, why stop the flow? Because of loyalty? Because it’s not fair to replace an injured starter?..... The bottom line are the WINS.... And I believe in my heart if we would of stayed with Gannon, we would have won that game and maybe gone a long way in the playoff that year. Now fast foward to 2011..Does this sound familar anyone?

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
In a way, the Damon Huard photo is appropriate for the topic.
In much the same way Marty reinstating Grbac over Gannon hurt the team and potentially cost us a playoff game, I remember feeling that Huard should’ve continued starting over Trent Green in 2006/2007. Huard was a model of passing efficiency that year.

he was, actually
but we weren’t going to win that game regardless of who started …

I remember that too! It does seem like our team is not good at judging the QB situation at times huh?

Whenever I think of Grbac, I think two things:
1. GOD he sucked!
2. Seriously? A “sexy” athlete?

About time we fire that series back up.

We have "the kicker who shall remain nameless".
If ever there was a fitting candidate for “the quarterback who shall remain nameless” Elvis Upchuck is it.

We just called him

While I completely agree with you on the whole Grbac/Gannon thing...
I think we are in a bit of a different situation right now. I don’t think Orton is going to leave and make the playoffs or lead a team to a super bowl after he leaves, and while he showed that he is better than Cassel, I don’t think it’s worth it to keep him around, but rather explore other options. I guess what I am trying to say is that Orton is not and never will be Gannon calibur.
I see your point but..
You have got to admit, the offense did run smoother with Kyle under center ( One Sack in 3 games) . We SHOULD have been 3-0 and made the playoffs (Two blocked kicks). And alot of KC fans would not mind seeing Orton start the 2012 season after the way he played for us in those final 3 games,
Koolta: A die hard chiefs fan
They will not keep him remember he is a free agent Orton i mean
Some team will pick him up and maybe start him, that will be another one we let go , Orton!
Bowe is another all you people talk negative about bowe until he makes a one handed catch in the end zone
Another team with better receiver coaches and they will play us and bowe will wipe the floor with the secondary, oh that too brandon Carr is gone too.who do we have on that side better, even if he sometime needs saftey help he still is the best we have, unless we get replacements just as good now are better, what is the purpose, these people have no common sense at all, one step forward and two steps back, pay these people please
Grbac wasnt as bad as Huard, Croyle,Cassell and Palko
Forget about Cassell. Orton is a REAL NFL Quarterback

i fear
We let Orton go stick with Cassel who’s garbage Orton goes on and become rich gannon. And we are stuck with Cassel aka garbac

Gannon was better than Grbac/ and should have been the starting QB
It was like Drew was very good in his career, but when he got hurt , Tom Brady took over and the rest is history, that being said, this is a business, i have my favorite players and you have yours but the team comes first.
It not saying unless your peyton manning in his prime who is a special player you don’t give him his starting job back when he recovers but Gbac was not, all though years the chiefs had the anwser on the bench and let it slip away, some players are better practice players than game players and the other way around Gannon was better in the game the chiefs at the very least would have went deep into the playoff with gannon he could put the ball where it needed to be, could scamble better that gbac, was a field general and i believe the Chiefs would have went deeper into the playoffs with Gannon if not they still had Gbac?
There are plenty of parallels but not the ones people think.
Gannon was a journeyman’s journeyman, going through LOTS of teams rosters, but people dismiss Orton because he was let go from two teams – so obviously he must be a bum.
Cassel takes heat for being a dink and dunk, slightly mobile passer. That’s Gannon’s profile.
Fans here like Orton’s stronger arm, being more of a pocket passer. That’s who Grbac was. Grbac put up some great passing yardage numbers, which isn’t easy to do on a Schottenheimer team.
If it wasn’t for the accursed paycheck, would I really imprison myself in this dungeon of the human soul?
yeah, it is
was mentioned way up in the thread someplace
