Is Troy Smith still a free agent? I thought he showed real flashes last year.
I remember wanting us to bring him in in training camp. I still have a hard time believing that he would have been worse than Tyler Palko. Then again, I doubt any of the guys on that list would have been.

Haley liked Palko.
Which continues to piss me off.

True, that much was apparent even last August.
I still think that it would have been a good move, though. C’est la vie.

Them PA guys gotta stick together

Last I heard Troy was with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL.
Do we go fetal and beg for mercy? Or do we pick up that broken piece of pipe laying on the ground and come up swinging? I choose pipe.
Sober (again) since January 10th, 2011.

Goes to show what competent coaching
can do for a guy. And for the record, I don’t believe Smith was ever benched for Carr. At least in regular season play

Would have been hard to make that argument last year.
Just goes to show what a different situation can do to a player.

Actually, Smith has never looked that good this year.
Almost identical stats to 2010 Cassel. Even in the playoff game last week he didn’t look good till the last 4 minutes.
I think they’re very comparable.
I wouldn't give a huge edge.
But the game against the Saints was very impressive. I haven’t seen Cassel put on a performance like that on any stage. Let alone a playoff game in ultimate crunch time.
Fire Scott Pioli + hire Captain Hindsight = Superbowl.

Ha - I should have read this first!
I more or less said the same below.

He looked good last week, when it mattered
Trying to remember what Cassel looked like in the playoffs last year when it mattered…. … … oh yeah! Total dog-shit!

I wish Cassel would get benched

Could Cassel succeed the way Smith has?
And Smith has gotten a hell of a lot more flack than Cassel has.
That comes with being a #1 overall pick

We don't have the worst QB
We aren’t that far off from a D like SF. I’d take Cassel over Tebow at least
