I’ve been reading AP for years and this is my first post. I should probably be studying for a college class, but this needs to be said, and I hope that I’m posting then in the correct space.
There has been much talk on here recently about drafting RGIII, signing Peyton Manning, or even signing Matt Flynn(Eeek!). I have another suggestion that hasn’t been mentioned, the Chiefs should trade for Chase Daniel who is a restricted free-agent this year with the Saints. Rather than breaking the bank on Peyton for at most 3 more years of elite play, overspending for Matt Flynn, or trading away our future in the off-chance that RGIII is the second coming of Jesus, the Chief’s brass should trade a 3rd or 4th round pick for one of the most astounding college quarterbacks ever to play in the state of Missouri.
Before the 2009 draft there was a lot of talk about Chase Daniel being to small, at 6 ft 1 and 218 lbs. Drew Brees, the quarterback he has been under the tutelage of for three years, is only 6 ft and 207 lbs and he just broke the single season record for passing yards in a season.
Another knock on him is that he played in the spread in college…well he’s been a Saint’s backup for 3 years so there must be a reason they’ve been keeping him around.
His best season in the NFL he only passed for 29 yards. So why should we take a flier on this kid rather than Matt Flynn who has started 2 NFL games? For one, he will be much cheaper and will free up cap room so we can ensure that both Brandon Carr and Dwayne Bowe will be KC Chiefs for the foreseeable future. Also, Chase would provide excellent competition for Cassel and Captain America Stanzi. If nothing else, he’s better than Palko.
If Drew Brees ever gets injured this kid will play like a stud, and then the NFL will be abuzz with talk of teams trading for him. Lets get him now.
