Third Shift Open Thread
It's another cold one here in D.C. this evening. And the fact that we still have cabinets in boxes waiting to be installed in our apartment after ten days isn't helping things either. In fact, the boxes conveniently block the main heating vent, so things stay around a nice 65 degrees most of the time.
That's my night. And this is your open thread for the evening. Use it to talk about whatever you want.

will the chiefs ever draft a Qb in the first round, not since todd blackledge in 83. and the chiefs could of had marino. OH well atleast 65 toss power trap worked for KC, it should be wide open red. Hank stram still the man.

About the draft
While it would be nice to get Rieff, Decastro, Martin or one of the other guys early on, I really think I would much rather trade back and acquire more picks instead. We moved back 5 spots in last years draft and picked up an extra 3rd rounder, this team has enough holes and lack of depth to warrant getting more 2nd and 3rd round picks by trading down. Unless by some miracle we get Andrew Luck, I say we trade down into the 20’s if we have to, but get us some more 2nd and 3rd round picks. Pioli has proven he is a good drafter, let him do more of it.

Well, school just started again.
Which means that every time I post on here I’m not doing the mountain of stuff I have to do. I can’t wait until I graduate. There’s no way the job I can get will be as stressful as college has been.

It is literally impossible.
There are three reasons why my college career has been more stressful than average:
1. I go to one of the top schools in the country.
2. I’m majoring in the toughest subject (Physics).
3. I’m graduating in 3 years
From talking to my friends, their college life sounds like a vacation.

OK, maybe not literally.
But it is unlikely, especially since (hopefully) all this work now will mean a high paying job where I don’t have to worry about paying bills or anything.

Typically there is a direct correlation between pay and stress. Just sayin!

Mo’ money, mo’ problems.
Seriously, I miss being piss poor because life was simpler. For some reason, it seemed so much easier to scrape by on several hundred bucks a month than several thousand.

Because your spending habits changed
And you need to readjust them

Why?
Since I’m 4 months away from graduating and going into the real world, I’m trying to soak this “real life experience” stuff as much as possible. I figure it’s better to learn from others’ mistakes than to learn them the hard way.
by wustl_chiefs_fan on Jan 18, 2012 10:16 PM CST up reply actions
Well, there's a few reasons.
Without knowing your own personal situation, in my experience, many college students are living off of a subsidy from the folks. That dries up after college and all the rent, food, utilities, and simple luxuries become your own responsibility.
As for spending habits changing, it’s true to some extent at first. You’ll either develop tastes for certain finer items (whether it be certain foods, craft beer, particular wines or cigar, whatever) and with the means to actually afford those, you’ll become a small afficionado in one of those areas. You’ll also start to fraternize with people within your industry and pay grade. In doing so, you’ll begin to seek to live in similar accommodations, going out to similar restaurants, and essentially engaging in a lifestyle that will absorb ever more of your money.
Tebow might know Jesus, but Bill Muir is old enough to have actually babysat him in the manger.
And if they're in the social sciences, their lives are vacations.
That said, even though your studies are more difficult and time consuming than theirs and the sheer load of work something approaching a metric fuckton, it will be the same ^2 when moving onto the private sector, at least at first.
The notable exception is if you go into govt work upon finishing. Of course, if you do that, you’ll have to worry about those checks boucing in a few years time.

Free Agents
Whats our BIGGEST free agent acquisition priority this offseason?
Everyone has been talking like Bowe and Carr are our only FA targets this offseason. I understand this, but what other positions will be addressed? I believe that Nose Tackle and O-line will also be addressed, but are they in the form of draft or FA?
Who’s out there that we have legitimate chances at? My belief is that Nose Tackle is a spot that veterans should fill. Think about how long it took Raji and Nada and Wilfork to evolve. O-line seems a more play right now kind of slot where guys learn on the job. In Green Bay, Baltimore and even Pitt they played guys in thier first year. Those dudes made immediate impacts on thier respective clubs.
Thoughts on where these guy will come from?

There is to much of a price paid for FA NTs in my opinion.
I would rather get a solid RT in FA and some depth for the interior o-line, and maybe draft some as well.

Mims literally couldn't do any worse at pass blocking.
We dont need an all-pro there or anything close, we just need a average or above average guy. If we have to overpay in FA by half a million for a couple years it will be worth it, jst get it done.

There's a passage I got memorized.
Ezekiel 25:17. “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon you.” Now… I been sayin’ that shit for years. And if you ever heard it, that meant your ass. You’d be dead right now. I never gave much thought to what it meant. I just thought it was a cold-blooded thing to say to a motherfucker before I popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some shit this mornin’ made me think twice. See, now I’m thinking: maybe it means you’re the evil man. And I’m the righteous man. And Mr. 9mm here… he’s the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could mean you’re the righteous man and I’m the shepherd and it’s the world that’s evil and selfish. And I’d like that. But that shit ain’t the truth. The truth is you’re the weak. And I’m the tyranny of evil men. But I’m tryin’, Ringo. I’m tryin’ real hard to be the shepherd.

Depends how the combine goes
If he can run in the low 4.5s I think he’ll go right around our pick or just before. Not that I put much stock into 40 speeds but it seems like some do. I’ve seen him constantly outrun coverage for his whole college career. I think he’s projected mid teens to mid twenties right now.

It wasn't Baldwins fault or the Chiefs fault it didn't work out this year
Between missing the first 7 weeks with a broken thumb and the Tyler Palko era error he wasn’t given much of a chance. If we had the opportunity for 1 or the other I would take Jeffrey, but hindsight is always 20/20 I suppose

McNutt from Iowa, BJ Cunningham from Michigan St. I do agree he is underrated though, if a scheme calls for a physical corner then Dennard is your guy
