Third Shift Open Thread

Photo

Today was one of those work days that was just a blur. A "vacation" day on Monday plus a trip to Kansas City put me out of the e-mail loop for a couple of days. Turns out, I can never do that again. At least during the NFL season. There's way too much going on during the week and even more so on the weekends. So tonight, I'm relaxing as much as I can.

This is your open thread for the evening. How was everyone's Tuesday?

Crazy day at work

Recovering from being closed and having our 1st snow storm of the year really put us in a bind today. The entire state of Washington’s system went down for about 40 minutes today, leading to an insane long line and several pissed off people.

Glad to be home and to be off tomorrow. We’re expecting anywhere from 8-12 inches of snow tomorrow.

Here is our weather warning for tonight.
Winchill Warning in Effect

Summary

This is a warning that extreme wind chill conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

Details

Bitterly cold Arctic air combined with northwesterly winds of 15 to 20 km/h will produce wind chill values of -40 or lower overnight into Wednesday morning. Northern portions of the grainbelt will likely see the most extreme wind chill values. In these areas overnight temperatures will drop to between minus 35 and minus 40 c with wind chill values near -45 expected by Wednesday morning. A disturbance tracking across the Northern United States is currently bringing cloud cover and some light snow to southern portions of the grainbelt. Wind chill values in these areas are not expect to plummet below the warning level of -40 until skies clear. This is expected to occur over southwestern areas overnight and over southeastern areas Wednesday morning. Wind chill values of -40 to -45 are expected in these areas Wednesday morning. At these extreme wind chill values frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 10 minutes.

Got into a bit of a fender-bender this morning

had to be with some schmuck of a lawyer who thinks he’s going to tell my insurance company how to conduct their business over email while cc-ing me on every last thing.

Whew! This attention to detail stuff if really exhausting! LOL

Trouble is it’s only about 1/3 Chiefs stuff. But it’s pretty easy to skip to those parts. The writing is a little dry, but extremely interesting if you’re interested in how the Chiefs work.

So I've been trying to get my gf into football for a couple of years now.

Finally found the answer: Friday Night Lights

Somehow this show slipped past my radar. Halfway through season 1 and we’re really loving it, and I’m loving watching her cheer on the team.

Good for them.

All the places I get my news from have been talking about it, but apparently the mainstream media has barely noticed. I heard about a study showing that, since SOPA was introduced, the mainstream media has talked more about the royal family than SOPA.

Ridiculous.

Hopefully sites like Wiki will help bring public awareness to these dangerous bills.

You realize this could affect Arrowhead Pride too?

One person makes a comment about where to watch games illegally online, and CBS or Fox can shut them down.

Yep.

I don’t think people realize how wide reaching this is. They think it will only be used for sites like The Pirate Bay, but they must not be paying attention to our government, if they think they can be trusted to always do the right thing.

First day of classes was today.

So far philosophy of science looks like a joke. We spent the day with the professor trying to learn our names, and for some reason she kept thinking my name was Brad. I had to keep telling her “No, it’s wustl_chiefs_fan. It’s not that hard to remember.”

On the other hand, Physical Measurements Lab looks pretty bad, but my partner is one of the smartest Physics majors so that should help. And E+M looks hard too, just because it’s the continuation of a class I did poorly in last semester.

Stampede Blue is a MESS!

I went over the Stampede Blue to read about the Colts coach being fired and man they are a complete mess over there. Brad Wells is going pretty crazy pushing his personal agenda.

SBNation is getting pretty big and I’m not sure why they allow this guy to keep having his job. I can’t imagine any other editor on any other Fan/News/Blog site responding to his readers like this after he was proven wrong after he reported the coach wouldn’t be fired:

“…Also, this is just a small pet peeve of mine: If you’re going to Bob Kravitz and f&king Colts Authority for your news, then go there. Kravitz’s own people at the Star were writing the exact same stuff I was, and both Chappell and Wilson are helluva lot more connected to the team than Kravitz. The info coming out of the complex was that Caldwell was staying. It doesn’t take a f&king rocket science to put two and two together and come up with the notion that had Spagnuolo accepted the DC job, Caldwell is still the coach. Mortensen even made that claim this evening.

Why have Caldwell interview Spags if the intention was to fire Caldwell all along?

Again, these aren’t huge leaps in logic, and it’s not like I’m making this shit up as I go. At the end of the day, if you are here, it’s because you believe us. If you don’t believe us, well then just f&k off and read someone else. I don’t see how that simple little concept eludes people like you.

I mean, seriously? What the f&
k do I have to do to get you to see the f&king bark from the trees? I can’t spell it out any more simply than this. This is all I got. The best I can do. That’s either good enough for you, or you can f&k off and read someone else.”
