#11-12 Prime territory for a Trade Down
The Chiefs could be sitting on prime real-estate for teams looking to upgrade at Left Tackle.
Matt Kalil is gone and the Chiefs have the entire field of second best to trade away (if we want too)
Riley Reiff
Mike Adams
Levy Adcock
Jonathon Martin
How deep could we expect to go backward and get a premier Offensive Lineman?
A Right Tackle, Guard or Center?

in this scenario
18 is DeCastro… so that’s ideal
I could see teams trading up for the top CBs, too.
I am not crazy about the 11th pick, especially IF DeCastro, Martin, Rieff are gone (which could happen). So, trading down would be awesome, unless we find a way to get RG3;-)

I doubt all the Tackles will go that high
If they do, that means someone else fell and a trade down will be likely.
This is a good draft to trade down
Meh...

looks like Dallas range
to still have options

21-22 would possibly still have Martin, Konz, and both Fla State tackles available

I'd love to drop back around pick 23- 28
Get picks in next years draft and then get somebody like Glenn. This could shore up our interior line for a decade… Then all we need is an upgrade at RT. Plus we would also have more ammo in this years draft.
Go Chiefs!!!!
Adcock, Adams
Adcock is rated as a 3-4th rounder. Adams is a borderline 1st and may not be any better than Richardson. If Reiff, DeCanzo and Martin are all gone, who do the Chiefs pick?
Pioli's philosophy on trading down is to do so
If the position you’re trading to will provide more value.
Odds are that no one is going to force you to trade with them by offering way above the chart value, so trades are more likely if there are a pool of players you have rated about equally and you can ensure you’ll get at least one of them by trading down only a few spots.
I think there are 10 players who are this point look to be the best talents out there. Luck, Khalil, Griffin, Claiborne, Reiff, Richardson, Coples, Kirkpatrick, Blackmon and Martin.
If none of those guys is available, I think we should trade down. If any one of them is available I think they should be the pick because of the talent differential between them and everyone else. Fortunately, the next couple guys on the board are pass rushers. There is a good probability one or both of them will be taken which will open us up to take a tackle, most likely.
Another guy who seems to fit right 53 and could be an option if we don’t retain Bowe is Alshon Jeffery.

I agree
But I would throw Decastro in that list of top talent. I don’t see a major need to trade down if we can get one of the top talents at a position of need, like guard, ILB, or possibly CB
I'm so overrated, I'm underrated.

Why trade it away??
How bout we get a GOOD O Lineman and be done with it?
Clark Hunt and Scott Pioli need to IMPRESS me in 2012....No Settling this year Chiefs Fans!!
yuh
thats what i have been thinking.take what we have! we can pretty much pick that 1 team in the top 10 will make a shock pick and take someone either to high or out of their needs. which makes top 10 players snowball out of the top 10 and into the waiting hands of 11+
- In Pioli I Trust - Chiefs Will - AFC West 2011 -
If we can trade down and still get more or less just as good of an O Lineman
it would be stupid NOT to do it. Because you then get not only a needed starter on the line, but you get the chance in the second or third to go after another starter or development/depth.
i understand how it works...
but i dont want the 3rd 4th or 5th best O Lineman….it all starts up front, get the best prospect you can get…we need starters, not developmental players…

We could get two good lineman instaed of one premiere lineman
Some claim that the Tackles fall off seriously after Kalil, Reiff, and Martin, yet all might start at RT in 2012.
Maybe just arguing with myself on the value of RT over another position in the 1st round

I say DeCastro at 11/12
Fixes the interior line and put an aggressive attack on getting an upgrade at rt.
Albert/DeCastro/Hudson/Asamoah/Mims
I think Mims could turn out to be a better run blocker than brich

Really?
Good grief. What the heck did he do this offseason anyway?
11 is too high to take a Tackle unless he is playing Left and you move Albert to the other side.
If they want to pick up a RT you can do it later. I think they take a CB if they don’t have Carr locked up, a QB if they like one, or possibly Richardson if he falls. Otherwise trade down and get more picks.

Tannehill?
Call me crazy but I just wouldn’t be shocked if he’s the pick.

im for trading back in the draft if...
all i want to see is the chiefs make a serious offer and a serious attempt to land Carl Nicks in Free agency
With this Board
per www.drafttek.com I find it hard to move down if we wanted too
1 12 Kansas City Luke Kuechly ILB Boston College P3 +2 Value
1 13 Arizona Mike Adams OT Ohio State P1 -4 Reach
1 14 Dallas Dre Kirkpatrick CB Alabama P2 +2 Value

1 16 NY Jets Juron Criner WRF Arizona P3T -12 Reach
1 17 Cincinnati Alfonzo Dennard CB Nebraska P1 -1 Reach
1 18 San Diego Don’ta Hightower ILB Alabama P2 -4 Reach
1 19 Chicago David DeCastro OG Stanford P3 +4 Value
1 20 Tennessee Whitney Mercilus DE43 Illinois P1 +1 Value

1 24 Pittsburgh Vontaze Burfict ILB Arizona State P3 -2 Reach
1 25 Denver Janoris Jenkins CB North Alabama P3 -2 Reach
1 26 Houston Jonathan Martin OT Stanford P3 +6 Value
Kirkpatrick is not helping us
Tackles are spaced out and some other team might benefit more value wise to trade up with

honestly, why would we trade DOWN instead of simply taking DeCastro ... the guy is Top Ten talent and we'd be fortunate if he's still there at our 11/12 pick
almost every mock I see has us taking Martin and DeCastro going to the Cowboys two picks later … and THAT would make me very sad
there’s only ONE “Best OT” and that’s Kalil who is long gone by our pick … there’s also only ONE “Best OG” and that’s DeCastro … and aside from Kalil, he’s the ONLY other “premier” Olineman
call me crazy but I’d like The Best for the Chiefs

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
What about getting
Cordy Glenn and atleast another high pick?
I agree,
you take the best player at the 11 spot. Looking at how we moved down last year, it seems that Pioli wanted to take Baldwin no matter what. He know that he could trade back and still get him. It worked last year, but that is a very dangerous game to play. Consequently it would seem that he had blinders on for Baldwin, and blinders for Tyson Jackson three years ago. Falling in love with a player is not bad, but I would like us to be a bit more flexible, especially in the first round.
Maybe trading down had more to do with picking later in the first round than we are this year. Where we are picking this year is a great spot to get a legitimate no. 1 at their position stud like DeCastro or Richardson. I will take either, but please don’t trade down this year.
Sorry guys
I was not arguing so much actually trading down as the possibility of trading down and still getting good players.
With 3 Offensive tackles on the board we have a barter chip or with good CB’s on the board we have a barter chip. We might not be able to trade back if we have nothing anyone is exited to pick over another team early on, they will just sit tight.
Sooooooo, BPA at 11-12 might be the way to go, just speculating
