A big "THANK YOU!" to Mike Martz
for preventing the Chiefs from even considering the possibility of thinking about talking to Martz about maybe being our OC. Great news.
Good thing
He and Cassel wouldn’t work what so ever.
Similar to Cutler, when Cassel lets it rip beyond 10 yards, he turns into a thrower, not a passer. Kurt Warner was a passer, an engineer of an offense that focused on accurate route running and timely placement of throws.
Cutler and Martz didnt succeed because Cutler isn’t an amazingly accurate QB who minimizes risk. He’s a QB who trusts his rocket arm to fit the ball into windows that are actually smaller than Cutler believes they are.
Golden Tate is to route running, what Taco Bell is to Mexican food.
IOW, Martz is like Haley.
Both can succeed in just the right situation, but neither are capable of adapting when things aren’t perfectly how they want them.
That's true
One reason I liked Gailey. He hasn’t been a HC but as an OC he adjusted the offense to put it in the best situation to win with the players he had. The guy made me like Thigpen, that alone says a lot.
Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.
Yup.
I don’t like Cutler, and I actually started to pity him.
Three-step drop and a quick slant just didn’t exist for Martz. And it got Cutler killed. Pass rushers knew they could pin their ears back and go at it (which also contributed to the O Line’s bad performance to a degree, I think. Making a bad line look even worse).
It's no fun if I have to explain it.
