(Must Read) My Take On How The Chiefs Should Go About Suring Up The O-Line and Produce a Winning Organization
This Is My Official Take On How The Chiefs Should Go About Suring Up The Offensive Line and To Keep It Strong For Years To Come
Always Bring In Veteran Free-Agents,and Draft Elite Talent, Bring In Elite Position Coaches, And Most Importantly Be Bold And Take Risk
-----Always Bring In Veteran Free-Agents:
Veterans on a professional football team serve a major porpose, they bring vocal, mental, and experienced leadership. They improve every player around them in their specific position and on some occasions team-wide. Having a veteran at every position would do wonders for a football team, just look at the Ravens Defense they have veterans on every level Defensive Line, Linebacker, and Defensive Back, Ngata, Lewis, and Reed, they have had a superior defense for plenty of years and have been contenders the same amount of years. On the offensive line we lack that veteran leadership, and we also lack elite talent, we have players that properly execute assignments but at the same time we still have holes. This year the chiefs should really consider bringing in the likes of Carl Nicks(Pro-Bowl Left Guard),bringing back in Jared Gaither before the Chargers lock him up,Pro-Bowler Ben Grubbs,Anthony Collins, and Stephen Heyer. These guys all bring a veteren presence, but at the same time are still young enough to be am extended temporary solution, giving us time to draft and develop other players at the position. I would also challenge the chiefs to bring in Max Starks the Steelers LT who has had a drop off on production but would be a major temporary upgrade over Barry Richardsonat at RT.
-----Draft Elite Talent At The Position:
Drafting Elite talent will always be a win in my oppinion, the presence of veteran free agents and coaches, gives these elite prospects time to develop and perfect the craft ofsaid position,forexample look at Aaron Rodgers, he remained a second string quarterback, and while relieved of playing time he developed his body, trained hard, learned under the toutalage of an elite quarterback coach, and made major moves towards perfecting his craft. When his time came he flourished the same concept should be present at every positin especially at the Offensive and Defensive Line Positions, cause skill players get all the glory but at the end of the day this game comes down to 1 big man vs. another. The o-line and d-line are one of the the most important positions on a football team, the primary reason why left tackles are often payed more than every position other than quarterback.Offensive lines make orbreak teams, just look at the Saints record breaking offense the primary reason they have been so succesful is because of the presense of Carl Nicks, Jahri Evans, Jermon Bushrod, Zackscrief, and Brian De La Puente. Witout their presence the Saints would just be a mediocre team with phenomenal skill players. I chalenge the chiefs in the draft to bring in the likes of;
Round 1)----Riley Reiff, Dacid Decastro, or Jonathan Martin
Round 2)----Kelechi Osemele or Cordy Glenn
Round 3)----Brandon Mosley, Matt McCants, Amini Silatolu, or Mike Brewster
Round 4-6)--Focus on skill players
Round 7)----Robert T.Griffin(Baylor Offensive Guard, I feel that hes a slepper and
that in the future if given the right oppourtunity and system will join the elite and become one of the best at his position in the NFL)
If the chiefs draft in this fashion they would have the depth at o-line, and have the talent at the position that would flourish at years to come, and also this will give the chiefs an opportunity to focus more on other positions, preferably defensive line and quarterback. Ibelieve this way is the way the chiefs build for the future, and on top of that make a big step towards winning championships for years to come.
Bring In Elite Position Coaches:
Bringing In Elite Coaches, is the way you should go about developing future talent and maximizing potential of elite and under the radar prospects, a great offensive line coach will 90% produce great offensive linemen, just look at th New Orleans Offensive Line/Running Game Coach Aaron Kromer who has developed the likes of Carl Nicks, Jahri Evans, Jermon Bushrod, and Mark Ingram, imagine the effect he would have on the Kansas City Chiefs, a run first team, he would aid in the development of Jamal Charles, Rodney Hudson, and other prospects, free agent running backs, linemen, and fullbacks we would bring in. I advise Romeo Crennel to make moves toward making him the offensive Co-ordinator along with Al Saunders. Another option would definely be pairing Kromer with Dave DeGuglielmo the Miami Dolphins Offensive Line Coach who has an invalid contract and could be picked up by any team. Those unfamiliar with DeGuglielmo, hes the coach that developed the likes of Jake Long, and other Miami Dolphin Linemen. Him along with Aaron Ka=rommer would be a monster conbination, having Krommer focus of interior linemen, and offensive running calls, and having DeGuglielmo focus primarily on offensive tackles and giving added insight on interior linemen. The saints would not prevent Krommer from getting an Offensive Co-Ordinators job, they would encourage it because that would be a major move towards solidifing his legacy and making his mark in the NFL, DeGuglielmo would be no issue, he has an invalid contract and if Crennel moves before anyone else he should be an immediate addition.
-----Be Bold And Take Risk:
There is no reward without risk, and thats what make Pioli incompetent as a General Manager, that is his primary fault, im not trying to down Pioli, its just that everyman has strengths and weaknesses, but when your weaknesses are playing a major part in bringing down and producing a losing organization that is an issue that cannot be overlooked. In the business that the NFL really is, you have to take risk and be bold to be succesful, those lacking of these characteristics will be unsuccesful in their venture. If pioli does not gain some nuts and learn these relistically horrible facts he will become a liability and be deemed former kansas city chiefs general mananger.
A bold general mananger will produce winning organizations, you have to be a visionary to win championships, and that is where pioli is incomprtrnt. My ideal general manganger will get talent by any means neccesary,
This is a bold move the Kansas City Chiefs need to make, trade Dwayne Bowe and 2 first round pickes to the St. Louis Rams for their #2 overall pick. Giving the Rams Dwayne Bowe, the #10 or 11 overall pick and our 2013 1st round pick.
Before you start disowning my ideals, peeps this out, we could trade the #2 overall pick to the Miami Dolphins(who really want RG3) for Jake Long, 2 1st round picks, and 2 second round picks. We basically traded dwayne bowe and a #10 overall pick for Jake Long and 4 draft picks. We would then have Jake Long, the 2012 #9 pick, #41 pick, #42 pick, 2013 1st round pick, and 2 2013 2nd round picks.
With the number 9 overall pick we could draft Riley Reiff and pair him with Jake Long, Carl Nicks,Rodney Hudson, and Brandon Albert at Right Tackle, automatically giving us the most solid offensive line in NFl. We then use our 2012 2nd Round Picks to bring in the likes of Cordy Glenn or Kelichi Osemele or both to challenge Brandon Albert at the RG position, and Rilley Reiff at the RT position.
With these bold and risky moves me now made ourself automatic superbowl contenders, with our dominant offensive line, passing, and running game, and the teamn would imporove for years to come beacuse of the presence of young elite talent, young veteran presence, and powerful vocal leadership, and the best thing is we now have a 2013 1st round pick and based on the Miami Dolphins who's production will decrease in 2012-2013, due to their lack of their dominant LT, we could very well gain a number 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. We could repeat the whole process, or bring in the best quarterback. Solidifying and producing one the best Kansas City Chiefs units in history, and giving it longevity to succeed for plenty of years to come, all for D'Wayne Bowe, and a number 10 overall pick. Beacuse of the bold and risk-taking general manager.

One thing
I love this move, but I wouldn’t draft a tackle at #9. If we could get Jake Long and move Albert to RT I think that we should draft a different position at 9 or better yet trade the pick for more picks. Other than that I love this.

How exactly would get get Jake Long?

you don't know
if Miami would take that trade, it is all hypothetical. It is a very steep price to pay for an unproven player. Rg3 got outplayed in the bowl game by the Washington QB. He also took better care of the ball that rg3. Only is he was coming out for the draft this year I would take him over griffin.
I voted no. and I'll admit it.
Here’s why:
There are several things I don’t Like. First off, why would you relegate arguably our most solid Lineman to back-up duty? No I’m not talking about Albert, who, IMO should stay where he’s at, but Asamoah, He is a rising star. He has a mean streak for a Lineman, and is pretty mobile. I wouldn’t be surprised if he moved to Left guard next season. And i can’t stand people who even think about trading Bowe. The only game I need for proof is the Denver game (wk 17) after he left with an injury, the offense was non-existent. We need him. Sure you could argue he pulled up on that play. The ball wasn’t catchable. It was either go for it and make the critics happy just to make it look like he tried, or risk an injury to himself, maybe putting himself out for an extended period of time.
Lastly, I really don’t think the Dolphins would give up Jake Long for ANYTHING even the shot at RG3. He’s that important to that line.

I agree with chiefs_fan_forever
I also voted no.
Bowe appears to be the only receiver we have that can consistantly get open. Until Baldwin proves he can get separate from the defensive backs I cannot consider him a #1 receiver. Why trade our only true #1 reciever unless your plan is to intentionally sabotage the offense in hopes of drafting a franchise QB in 2013?
Albert has done fine at LT and moving him seems pointless. We have more pressing needs on the line – RT is a glaring weakness – and we’ll need Guard support as well. I’d rather not have every single position on the O-line change from this year to next. It takes too long to develop O-line chemistry and consistency to bounce everyone around willy-nilly.
Hmmm...
I wonder if the Rams wouldnt just deal the pick to Miami and were still at 10-11?? Other than that, perfect!
You sign up on Saturday and make a MUST READ post on Monday?

If the Dolphins wanted that pick so bad as to overpay us like that why wouldn’t the Rams just take that deal with them in the first place?

I keep rereading it hoping I'm reading it wrong.
But all I can see is, even if for whatever reason they don’t trade directly with STL, Miami giving us their best player and 4 high picks for RGIII.

Be bold and take risks.
Lets see. 2009, Pioli didn’t have the full year of study of players to take risks. He didn’t take risks, I don’t fault him.
2010: 1st rd Eric Berry- Pretty sure pick, but an extremely high reward player.
2nd rd Dexter McCluster and Javier Arenas- very risky players. Haven’t been the high reward yet, but chalk up a couple extra wins because of these players
2011: 1st rd Jon Bladwin- Can we say RISK and louder.
2nd rd Hudson – Shore up the line, no “risk” here
3rd rd Houston – RISK- can’t pass a drug test during the combine, idiot
And you said he didn’t have any nuts.
Big Gulps EH????? All right.....Welp....See Ya Later!
we have to score more points on offense
We sometimes had a no huddle fast tempo offense that worked, we have to be more creative with the play calling and be aggressive.
Our lack of offense scoring points has cost us games, that includes the AP’s golden boy, Orton
We need to fix our O line.
Moving on from the trade scenario....
So what you’re saying is we should sign everyone elses Pro Bowlers and the ones we don’t sign we should trade for. Then we should invent a new style of offense line where we have two left tackles, a guard a center and a right tackle. Then we should spend some more high draft picks on the depth of the oline so that if one oline gets injured we have another equally pro bowlish oline to replace them.
I’m on board. Make it so.
"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"
I got two first rounders and a second from Washington for Cassel.

Yep
What Pioli should do is sign a guy from FA that has a rating about 92 and then trade him to whoever has a need on their trade block for that position for a 1st round pick.

Thats because you can trade
a pick for the next pick in the draft and their first round pick next year.
Since 2005: Royals win% = .4100, Chiefs win% = .4095

The effort was there...
This could have been a really decent post.
Sometimes we try and get to cute around here with the format and it makes it difficult to read. Ron, just try and keep that in mind for your future posts, because one of the goals is to get people to read your opinions…correct?
Anyway, I think the Jared Gaither train has sailed and I am doubting the Miami Dolphins are going to part ways with Jake Long anytime in the near future.
I agree with you on the idea that the Chiefs need to obtain some talented coaches and I like some of the other ideas you had. This post had a lot of potential, just try and keep it simple and focus on the material more than crazy formats… just a polite suggestion.
Stuff like spacing between words makes a huge difference. I’ll be interested to see your next fan post.

Didn't Gaither want out from the Ravens because he wanted to be a LT.
If he can’t play where we tell him to play, we don’t need him,
Proof Read
You make a few good points, but if you don’t proofread your article and check for errors then you can’t really expect people that read it to believe you are intelligent enough to know what you are talking about.
Also, the last section of your article was just nonsense! Obviously none of that will happen…
All right guys, I've got an even better idea...
We trade our entire draft, Matt Cassel, and Steve Breaston to the Packers for Aaron Rodgers. They obviously will do it because they need draft picks and receivers that can catch the ball.
THEN we turn around and trade Aaron Rodgers to the Saints for Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, and Colston. They will obviously do it if we pimp them, since Rodgers > Brees.
THEN we turn around and trade Sproles, Colston, and next year’s first round pickd for AJ, Arian Foster, and their 2nd round pick.
THEN we turn around and trade Bowe to the Pats for Wilfork
THEN we turn around and trade Arian Foster and that 2nd round pick for Joe Thomas.
Overall, that nets us Thomas, Wilfork, Andre Johnson, and Drew Brees for the mere cost of Matt Cassel, Dwayne Bowe, and our entire draft!
Then we’ll hire good coaches instead of crappy ones, and be set!
Who’s with me and not stupid?

ok, this is like seriously the most inane post I've had to wade thru in a long time ...
misspelled words and typos, italicized and bold type for even harder reading and full from top to bottom of asinine trade ideas that wouldn’t happen in a game of Madden much less reality
of course, all this coming from the guy who recommended Hue Jackson and every other Raiders coach is not a surprise … what is a surprise is that anyone could be this blind to reality and want to completely dismantle a team that’s on the verge of greatness

Honestly, this wasn't a terrible post
But you don’t help yourself by calling your own work “must read.” You better bring some serious heat if you’re going to call it that, and you just didn’t.
A hustler like yourseld (or pimp, or whatever it is you do) ought to have no problem upping your game.

Quote of the year and it's only January 16
I BELIEVE EVERYBODY HAS A VALUABLE OPPINION, BUT IT JUST HAPPENS TO BE THAT IM SUPERIOR TO EVERYBODY THAT SAID NO IN THE POLL,
"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"
Superior in comedic value, and not spelling and grammar prowess

What makes it extra comedic is that it's followed up by

I'm just trying to understand.
You talk about the hood so I’m assuming you are having some kind of car trouble and your engine isn’t right. Then you mention level homie. So I assume your home is sitting on an unlevel foundation. You say you make six figures, does that mean you have a weight problem? You swim in space so I guess you are an astronaut and you also say you are a General Manger so that means you are in the service.
This post is funny! I had more fun reading the comments

"Must Read"?
I know that this is just a matter of adjusting the settings on Madden, but in the real world, it’s a little bit more difficult.

He's been a pleasant surprise.
Started slow, but you can tell he’s starting to pick it up. Still struggles against the run, but he’s young.
As a 1st rd pick, I would’ve been disappointed in his production this year (as I am with Baldwin), but as a 3rd rd pick, he’s been amazing.

You were right on about his trouble early on in run support...
props for that call.
I thought he would make a better adjustment considering his coach and scheme in college. He has been a pleasant surprise. If they keep him out of coverage more often than not…he should be a beast next year with Berry back too.

We'll have a pretty good idea next season.
An offseason to really learn his position should be enough. We know he can rush the passer, but now he has to show he can be a complete player.

Yeah that is what irritates me about this Kent Babb stuff
we were set to go into this offseason learning to be a focused football team and he created a brand new distraction out of thin air.
Regardless this offseason is vital for this team. They could improve immensely in 2012 if they straighten this garbage out and make some good great hires.

Still think we should have gone with Phil Taylor and Jabaal Sheard.

I think that Jerrell Powe will work out, I really wish they would have got him on the field this season more.
I definitely didn’t want Phil Taylor…
But he did make an impact. Justin Houston and Jonathan Baldwin was a better haul IMO, I guess time will tell that story.
Hopefully Baldwin will come into his own next season.
This WR coach is an important hire moving forward.

If people don’t agree with you they attack you. I like the job Pioli has done, I do think we have to do something with this offense, we have to score more points.
I respect your opinion on your post and I hope you write more.

who was the 30%?
Gaither would have to be a total idiot to come back after what happened this year. You must really like o-lineman, because you have us taking 1 in every round and trading for Jake Long. Sorry , if we get the number 2 pick, then we need to take RG3 or Luck whichever 1 is available, instead of our 8th offensive lineman in your mock draft

You guys are too hard on -old- Skitz
2012 1st and 2nd and Bowe for 2nd overall has been floated out there. That is plausible.
would Miami not trade Long and 2012 1st for RG3?

Bleh
So far, the big moves for teams like Dallas, Washington, Oakland, Philly and a bonus…Miami Heat have all turned out flat. What makes Skitz think he would do any better? He needs to learn from the past. Unless of course, he hasn’t bothered to read his history book.

I voted "YES"
Only because I like a GM that makes bold moves and does everything necessary to make his team win. Moreover, I also believe that you can never have enough depth at the O-Line positions.
But, I don’t really think any of what you proposed would come into fruition. If it does, kudos to you.
Really great read though.
