Giants Topple Packers, Move Onto 49ers In NFC Championship Game

Photo

So the New York Giants were able to beat the 15-1 Green Bay Packers. The first 15-1 team to go one-and-done in the playoffs and the biggest upset this postseason. New York finished the Packers off, 37-20.

And guess who predicted a Giants victory?

Indeed, I picked the Giants to beat the Packers, even in Lambeau, 34-31. So I was right on the winner and sorta close on the score. Packers fans were sure to send me plenty of emails leading into the weekend to tell me precisely why I was wrong but I knew the Giants were built to win a game like that. They're able to create pressure while still dropping six and seven guys and Eli Manning is efficient enough to threaten the Packers on defense. Plus, it doesn't hurt when Hakeem Nicks goes crazy.

The Giants look like they did back in 2007 when they ran the table in the playoffs and pulled off the Giant upset against the New England Patriots. It's interesting then that the Patriots are still in this thing.

Perhaps we could see a rematch?

I don't like the Giants.

I’ve always thought of them as the ugly sister when it comes to NY teams.

Sporting KC will win the 2012 MLS Cup, the Chiefs will win the 2014 Super Bowl, the Royals will win the 2053 World Series.

Is it because they're the one that doesn't rhyme?

Jets, Nets, Mets…. GIANTS?

C’mon – shoulda been the Pets!

When will the Chiefs be a winning franchise again?

and I so want the Ravens to beat the holy hell outta the Pats ...

Ravens v Giants or Ravens v Niners … either way put a (temporary) stop to the nonsense of needing an “elite” QB to win big games and championships

Ravens Niners is the Harbaugh Bowl 2.0

would be pretty neat – should be the first time two brothers have met in the SB as opposing HC’s. If it weren’t for that it would be the worst Super Bowl in a long time in terms of ratings – Baltimore vs. San Fran? Ugh.

I’m hoping for Pats v. Niners – I can’t see Balt beating NE and I like the Niners D. If San Fran can handle Brees then they can handle Eli “who pooped in my Cheerios?” Manning.

i concur.

Patriots are on a roll, but be warned they have not beat a above .500 team this year and all their losses are against winnng teams. Ravens are far better than denver in all facets besides special teams. So i dont see a running up of the score in this game.

by Sinny on Jan 16, 2012 9:58 AM CST up reply actions

Any of the three remaining teams

could reasonably expect a first class ass kicking from the Pats. The Ravens will, of course, be the first to have that happen, but either the Giants or the Niners should be prepared for the same.

Not a big shock after the injury demons plagued the Packers late in the season.

Packers O-Line had been beaten up before their disaster outing against the Chiefs. Packer Defense has sucked all year and they did well by getting key turnovers and out scoring opponents. With Giants not allowing harmfull turnovers and moving the ball themselves in the air we saw the Packers are human without an effective O-Line. It also hurt them to have WR drop so many catchable passes.(Just a little off because Rogers was hurried a little more than comfortable.) Packers game with KC was a preview to the playoff game with Giants. Giants just took it to the next level.

injuries are not an excuse.

pack were ill prepared. They got beat by a better team. If my chiefs cant use that for an excuse neither can the packers.

by Sinny on Jan 16, 2012 9:45 AM CST up reply actions

No excuses intended. At face value Packers just plain out got beat.

There were reasons:
1) O-Line was not good enough at the end of the year to protect Rogers enough to allow Rogers to make the plays he did last year and throuout this year till the end.

2) WRs flat out dropped some catchable balls.

3) Defense did not get enough crucial turnovers as thay had all year.

These are observations. Not excuses.

CBS wants Tebow

as an analyst for the AFC championship game. They put in a request for him to do that. When does it end?!

When will the Chiefs be a winning franchise again?

Yep that was just reported

on fox 4 here in KC.

When will the Chiefs be a winning franchise again?

and I want

A week where I can listen to anything NFL related and not hear his name 60 times an hour.

Maybe they’re prepping him for an early career in broadcast… for, you know… when everyone realizes he’s a terrible QB.

Oh well.

by Ochophosphate on Jan 16, 2012 9:58 AM CST up reply actions

Wow

exactly what insight or knowledge could he possibly bring, how to suck as an NFL QB? How to deal with being the most overhyped, overrated, over talked about player in the history of this or any sport? Maybe they want him on there to try and teach some religion or something

lol

only 1 franchise QB in playoffs !! I thought that wasnt supposed to happen.? lol

by Sinny on Jan 16, 2012 9:43 AM CST reply actions

Eli's not a franchise QB?

Still there are 3 first round picks, two of which were number 1 overall… and one freak in Tom Brady.

I bet NY and Baltimore would consider Eli and Bert franchise QBs.

by Ochophosphate on Jan 16, 2012 9:51 AM CST up reply actions

ok

i might be wrong about ELI. But Flacco and Smith have not proven they are Franchise yet. Being a 1st rounder doesnt anoint you franchise automatically, colts will live that soon.

by Sinny on Jan 16, 2012 10:02 AM CST up reply actions

if i not mistaken

Smith was considered a bust last year.

by Sinny on Jan 16, 2012 10:03 AM CST up reply actions

Flacco is similar to Roethlisberger.

He’ll never be the big arm, big play guy… he’ll be the big play when it counts guy. If he leads the Ravens to the SB and wins, he’ll be considered an above average qb at least.

2012 Chiefs Draft Picks by Falcon58: G DeCastro 1st round, NT Ta'amu 2nd round or OT Adcock 2nd/3rd round, TE Egnew 3rd round, RB Ganaway 5th/6th, QB Case Keenum 5th/6th. Resign: Carr, Bowe, Orton, McClain, Gordon(in that order). Trade Dorsey for picks, promote Gordon to DT/DE.

by Falcon58 on Jan 16, 2012 10:22 AM CST up reply actions

True true - was not calling them franchise for being #1's

but did want to point out that 75% of the QBs were first rounders and 50% were #1 picks overall.

by Ochophosphate on Jan 16, 2012 10:41 AM CST up reply actions

I knew the GB defense would be a liability in the playoffs.

Interesting how elite great defenses toppled elite offenses this weekend… maybe the old cliche is still true… “defense wins championships”
