Giants Vs. Packers Open Thread

The New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers play in the NFC divisional round and believe it or not I'm not picking the Packers to win.

I think New York can do it. I think they pressure Aaron Rodgers, create a turnover or two and score enough points to beat the Packers. It's a big underdog pick but, like four years ago against New England, I think the Giants can win in a big upset.

Who ya got for the game?

Glazer reporting that Clements could be looking for an OC position somewhere or did I hear that wrong?

I guess anyone that wants him will have to hope Philbin doesn’t go anywhere, otherwise Clemets probably just moves up the ladder in GB.

A good number of Chiefs fans thought he was a top 15 QB ahead of Manning.

My TV showed the ball hitting the ground and popping out before any part of his body was conclusively down. It’s one of those plays though where you know he’s down even if the evidence isn’t there and the refs don’t seem to be able to call it as per the rule which states the video has to show it and they aren’t allowed to think for themselves.

a FA QB isn’t going to sign with a team and then that team is going to turn around and trade him. He’ll sign on with the highest bidder. If a team wants him, they will outbid other teams to sign him and not give up a draft pick

I always say that the key to elite offenses is getting as many guys as you can to play at a high level at the same

The Packers to start the season probably had 14 guys playing at a high level on offense there was simply no way they could keep that up and over the the last 6 weeks or so injuries and just players coming back down to earth is why the big drop off in the packers offense .

Still great but but instead of that 14 playing great its now down to maybe 6-7.

49rs its going to be alex smith to vernon davis and run by gore and hunter.

Giants D against the Patriots O would be a great matchup, not to mention it will be much more personal matchup since Giants were the only ones to stop Brady that year, and would be very interesting to see how insanely Brady will play that game.

I still think the Niners are pretenders.

And I can’t see Alex Smith playing another 6 minutes like he did yesterday, ever again.

The Saints kept them in the game.

They had one of the easiest schedules in the league, play in the worst division in football(and its not even close) and if it isn’t for three first quarter turnovers they probably arent even in that game yesterday.

"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"

by GenericBrand on Jan 15, 2012 5:31 PM CST up reply actions

you are underestimating them, but it is somewhat deserved since they haven’t been very good for a long time.

And other then the Tampa game nothing they did this year was all that impressive.

by GenericBrand on Jan 15, 2012 5:32 PM CST up reply actions

Hey hey hey

we are no pretenders… especially our D kept us in so many games while Cassel and Palko were starting for us. That is an admirable feat in itself.

Oh

by GenericBrand on Jan 15, 2012 5:41 PM CST up reply actions

'if it isn’t for three first quarter turnovers they probably arent even in that game yesterday.'

yes they had 3 TO because the 9ers forced them to have have 3 TO

let me guess, having good D means pretending

by Chiefshero on Jan 15, 2012 5:59 PM CST up reply actions

So turnovers = good D?

472 yards, 32 points and one of those turnovers inside the 10 yard line.

Yep. Amazing defense there. You don’t think that game ends differently if Roby isn’t an idiot and Pierre Thomas doesn’t get horribly injured?

"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"

by GenericBrand on Jan 15, 2012 6:38 PM CST up reply actions

yes you're correct because turnovers magically come out of nowhere

nope defense not needed.

All the 9ers had to do was leave a saints player open and they will magically fall down and fumble the ball.

do you pray to tebow?

by Chiefshero on Jan 15, 2012 6:40 PM CST up reply actions

Depends how you look at it I guess.

I saw a Saints team that could’ve run away with it if they dont shoot themselves in the foot. Alex Smith was impressive in the last few minutes of the game but I just don’t seem him duplicating that again.

"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"

by GenericBrand on Jan 15, 2012 6:40 PM CST up reply actions

yes because

some guy poking the ball away from your arms

good coverage

stopping the run

and pressuring the QB

all equals

bad defense

by Chiefshero on Jan 15, 2012 6:44 PM CST up reply actions

How did the defense make Roby cough up a punt return?

Nevermind. We’ll see next week I guess.

"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"

by GenericBrand on Jan 15, 2012 6:48 PM CST up reply actions

so you're in favor of tebow going to the playoffs?

seriously if you win, does it matter if you’re a pretender or not?

if the goal is to prevent all pretenders from going to the playoffs,
might as well ban the chiefs from playing next year cause we won’t be the pats, packers, giants, or saints

by Chiefshero on Jan 15, 2012 5:36 PM CST up reply actions

Not sure how you're jumping to these conclusions.

If the Niners make the Super Bowl then I’ll gladly eat crow. Im just saying they’ve done absolutely nothing all that impressive this year.

by KCinIL on Jan 15, 2012 6:46 PM CST up reply actions

U mean the cowboy games? Yea bc thats such a great team…giants r playing well right now, but all I’m saying is that they’re being hyped up right now by ppl who haven t watched them much …if they beat San Fran next week I’ll finally agree but I doubt that will happen so pls stop jumping on their bandwagon, packers playing terrible had more to do with them than the giants, giants only get credit for taking advantage of it

by Chiefs86 on Jan 15, 2012 6:54 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Whos jumping on the bandwagon? I'm saying THEY won, not the Packers lost

The whole points of being a good team is taking advantage of other teams mistakes man. The DL dominated, rushed his throws which could’ve contributed to some of those drops. We’re just gonna agree to disagree. Swearin they dropped 10-20 balls and the game was close or something.

by KCinIL on Jan 15, 2012 6:57 PM CST up reply actions

Ive seen almost every game this year.

They suffered from inconsistency on both sides of the ball because of injuries. Early on in the secondary on defense then in the pass rush and on offense they had almost no running game all year because of injuries. Now they’re the healthiest they’ve been all year and are on a roll.

Bradshaw and Jacobs are a package deal and always have been

And Jacobs was missing for a few games. And when they had both of them the defense was ailing. What I’m saying is the team is healthy and clicking now and its showing up on the scoreboard.

by GenericBrand on Jan 15, 2012 6:58 PM CST up reply actions

There was alot more "wide open" drops in this game though.

I think we did more to disrupt timing and had tighter coverage although they still did drop a couple gimmes in our game too.

Ive already seen one hella boring football championship this year.

Not sure I can sit through another.

Yeah

Ravens are a boring team to watch.

Patriots vs Giants!

by andrew33 on Jan 15, 2012 6:44 PM CST up reply actions

Also that's the worst possible thing that could happen if you don't like Cassel

Because Pioli will be sitting at home saying “Oh look the Super Bowl is Cassel 2.0 vs Cassel 3.0”.

"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"

by GenericBrand on Jan 15, 2012 6:44 PM CST up reply actions

I don't see the Giants beating the 49ers in San Fran.

and I refuse to root for the Patriots.

So why not a Harbaugh Super Bowl with great defenses.

Go Chiefs!!!!

by ravenhawk on Jan 15, 2012 6:47 PM CST up reply actions

People didn't see the Giants beating the Cowboys either, or the Falcons or the Packers.

A Giants/Baltimore SB rematch would be fun.

Ironically I did....

Thank you Eli for winning my final fantasy league… I do believe that the Giants 49ers game will be close.

Go Chiefs!!!!

I did last week and this week and it paid off thank god.

I’ll be betting on them again next week.

U mean a Qb cant win it all by himself….weird

by banshee_01 on Jan 15, 2012 7:00 PM CST up reply actions

I think all the late injuries to the o-line is what killed Green Bays momentum.

Though they need to do something to get the defense in order. I doubt Woodson has many years left in his legs.

Go Chiefs!!!!

Brady Manning rematch!

Yes!

Brady would be so focused for that game… i wonder how intense Brady would be and how hard he would be on his teammates during the pats practices before the superbowl…

Yep I take Brady in that rematch

I respect the Pats because they are a true consistent winner and Brady is a legend

by His Royal Greatness on Jan 15, 2012 7:07 PM CST up reply actions

the Saints had covered 9 in a row...

The odds of them covering 10 in a row was something like 1 in 500K

Since 2005: Royals win% = .4100, Chiefs win% = .4095
alot isn't a word.

by averagegatsby on Jan 15, 2012 7:08 PM CST up reply actions

Not when the first 9 were already out of the way.

If you flip a coin and come up with heads 9 straight times, tails still only has a 50% chance on the 10th (all else being equal).

Toms gonna be angry next week.

The last time they played Baltimore at home in the playoffs he got bitch slapped.

"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"

by GenericBrand on Jan 15, 2012 7:07 PM CST reply actions

I think we dont need an elite QB to win a SB

Just a really great defense and a good not great QB and a good duo in the backfield, look the teams in the final four: Ravens, elite defense, good not great QB, good running game; Giants, great defense, great duo in the backfield, altough they have a great QB but they are where they are ’cause their defense; Niners, good not great QB, good running game, great defense; and the exception, the Patriots, Elite QB, not good running game, bad defense.

by kaiser1118 on Jan 15, 2012 7:12 PM CST reply actions

Yep

3 out of the 4 teams have good defenses.

One high powered offense left.

How’s that idea about Franchise QBs being all you need to win working out now? Seems to me that the teams with the best defenses are winning play-off games. Alex Smith and the 49ers proving me right week after week.

Week after week?

They’ve only won one playoff game.

by Tarkus on Jan 15, 2012 7:21 PM CST up reply actions

14-3 right.

People think we need to trade away our draft for RG3 because it takes a good QB to win. I’ve been saying improve the o-line and add quality depth and we can win with Cassel/ Orton / Stanzi just like the 49ers are doing with A.Smith. IMHO A.Smith isn’t as good a QB as Cassel or Orton. We can win with a ball control offense and a good defense with Orton or Cassel. I’ll go even further IMO the 49ers will win it all.

IMO the coaching staff knows what they have with A.Smith and their more or less doing what Weis did with Cassel.

They’re a ball control offense with a very good defense, and A.Smith is nothing more than a Game manager.

I don't even consider A.Smith a good QB.

It’s all about the coaching and the system in San Fran not how great A.Smith is. The 49ers defense and running game is what wins most of the games for them.

IMO A.Smith is just as much a Back up as either Cassel or Orton.

Yeah I would like a better situation at QB, but IMO Cassel could’ve won that many game at San Fran under that system, which is run the ball, control the clock and play good defense.

Better this year

Thats all that matters

Me and Matt Cassel just - you up, dog!

by ChiefWarPaint on Jan 15, 2012 7:42 PM CST up reply actions

He's better because of the coaching staff, just like Cassel was with Weis.

Give him a shitty O.C and Coach and he goes right back to where he was, a below average QB.

At least Smith shows some ability against good defenses

27 TDs 7 INTs isn't good ok.

Funny how people have forgotten what he did do considering all the changes in scheme and coaching staff.

Then next year

It will be two high powered offenses all over again, just the nature of the sport once you think you’ve got it figured out it turns itself on its head.
