If the Chiefs already know that they won't be able to re-sign Carr in free agency, would they consider a guy like Alabama's Dre Kirkpatrick in the first round if he's available?

just re sign carr enough said.

by Zac Saleski on Jan 14, 2012 3:26 PM CST reply actions

Same here

I think some people didnt like the fact he waited so long to sign his tender but other than not getting more picks(because he wouldnt turn his head around) I didnt have many complaints about his play. We could have signed him for $4-$5mil/yr last offseason but I cant blame them for using the RFA tender….

What a year! At least we have the Royals... Oh Wait!

by KSU-Chief on Jan 14, 2012 4:29 PM CST up reply actions

I didn't like the RFA tender. It'd be NOTHING to pay the man his $4 or $5 million.

Now it’s likely to cost more. Seems like they just wanted to ride his rookie deal as long as possible and then not ante-up for a multi-year deal. Penny-wise and pound foolish.

would of ≠ would've

I loved the guy since we drafted him. he’s always been dominant at every level. he gets overshadowed by flowers

by Zac Saleski on Jan 14, 2012 6:28 PM CST up reply actions

I agree, ive actually been one of the people saying this since last season

i hated the scenario and what could play out
this included flowers, hali.

4 guys, 1 tag
well now its 2 guys and 1 tag
it sucks

pay carr! or open another hole on a team that cant afford to lose talented proven starters in their prime

Pay Brandon Carr/Romeo
Team Colquitt

by SDChief on Jan 15, 2012 2:03 PM CST up reply actions

Why

dont we just resign Carr and Bowe

Then we can draft an O-lineman instead of on a CB who we can already resign.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 3:27 PM CST reply actions

Like who?

Carr already has great chemistry with Brandon Flowers and the rest of the defense.

Why mess up a formidable defense which played without one of its biggest playmakers in Eric Berry, and a great 4th lb to put together with Houston, Hali, and DJ in Siler.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 3:33 PM CST up reply actions

Overpaying?

Carr is a great CB and is 6 3 which gives us a great defensive presence against tall wr in the league. We obviously arent staying with jovan because we extended siler.

Saying we should let Bowe go to draft floyd from ND is the same exact argument, and it obviously is not a smart move.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 3:53 PM CST up reply actions

So

you would rather draft another young player because you know for sure they are going to be great in the NFL?

Bowe didnt have any QBs to throw him the ball. If Bowe had a QB with the talent of Rivers, he would be universally considered one of the best WR in the NFL.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 3:56 PM CST up reply actions

I disagree, we all see the drops by bowe when they really matter.

cant blame that on the QB? dont get me wrong I really like bowe and want him to be a chief but cant agree to everything you say or we would have nothing to talk about.

by the great thunderlips on Jan 14, 2012 3:58 PM CST up reply actions

I wish

we could sign nicks too, but why not just resign both and draft a guard Decastro?

I think our team is better than what we think of them. Add in Jamaal Charles, the best RB in the NFL, Moeaki, Berry, and Siler to this team, and I think Chiefs will destroy the AFC west next year. Not to mention the holes in the OL/depth we could fix through the draft.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 4:03 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah

I wanted to demote Cassel after his first year and a half. I think Kyle Orton is good enough with our formidable defense and Charles coming back. The only reason Cassel had a 10-6 record was because of JC. Teams were stacking the line against him and he still beats them all in the box. Incredible…

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 4:06 PM CST up reply actions

why not sign nicks and not draft decastro? then sign bowe or carr. and draft the position you dont sign.

same scenario as you only difference is nicks is ready to go now, if you dont sign bowe and draft a WR maybe that WR doesnt have inconsistant issues like bowe, or if you draft a CB maybe that CB has more skill to be a legit #1 CB not a good #2 CB who wants paid #1 money.

by the great thunderlips on Jan 14, 2012 4:06 PM CST up reply actions

Because

we already know Bowe and Carr are elite talents in the NFL. If we resign both of them, we keep our team intact and draft DeCastro who many analysts say is one of the surest thing in the draft. Our WR and CB corp are top 5 in the NFL talent wise, and have been together so why mess with a good thing? Our O-line on the other hand is iffy so why not just draft Decastro?

If we draft either a WR or CB, there is a huge chance those guys wont be as good as Bowe or Carr

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 4:10 PM CST up reply actions

Then

Name 10 CB and WR who are better than them.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 4:15 PM CST up reply actions

just off my head.

CB Peterson, revis, cromartie, flowers, bailey, rogers, samuels, nnamdi, rodgers-cromartie, and robinson. That was way to easy I could have went alot longer just off the head.
WR andre johnson, calvin johnson, fitz, nicks, roddy white, mike wallace, greg jennings, wayne, welker, bolden. that was off the top of the head also come on dude its not that hard.

dont fill me with stats either you got eyes we watch the game and see who is better than who.

by the great thunderlips on Jan 14, 2012 4:39 PM CST up reply actions

Did you say

rodgers cromartie and robinson were better than Carr?

wow that was not smart.

Wayne and Andre Johnson? You rather have them than Bowe at this point? Johnson who gets injured every year and Wayne who is getting older and older?

Dont try to feed me “big names” because I actaully watch these games and btw samuels is not as good as carr either at this point.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 4:45 PM CST up reply actions

and by

watching the game you mean you watch one mnf and bunch of highlights right? because carr and bowe are better than half of those guys, and bowe especially have been hindered by his QB

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 4:46 PM CST up reply actions

And

you do realize baileys 33 and is going to slow down soon as a CB right?

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 4:49 PM CST up reply actions

Cromartie

also gives up alot of huge plays, and is much more inconsistent than Carr.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 4:50 PM CST up reply actions

dude? I knew you was going to do this.

if there was no football tomarrow or ever again and age was not a factor tomarrow but today only yes all those guys are better than carr and bowe today, right now.

dont question my fan hood your typeing on a computer instead of watching san fran and saints so dont talk to me about watching games, put devery henderson on the chiefs and he puts up the same numbers as bowe. lol. the guy is good but nowhere near elite. elite doesnt not show up some days they show up everyday.

by the great thunderlips on Jan 14, 2012 4:53 PM CST up reply actions

Genius

im watching san fran and saints right now. I have my laptop with me. You clearly dont know how to watch football, and i bet you have never played it either by the way you throw out names that clearly are not better than Bowe or Carr.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 5:01 PM CST up reply actions

To

say if football will never be played again when we talk about extending a player is moronic. Obviously you think of the future when you talk about whether we should retain players or not. Carr is going to be a better CB than Bailey next year.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 5:03 PM CST up reply actions

We

are not talking about a pretend league in which injuries and age are non factors. Any GM in the league would rather have Bowe and Andre Johnson for the fact that AJ gets injured every year.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 5:04 PM CST up reply actions

man its like talking to a girl talking to you

I knew when you asked to name better players you would go into this crap, oh this player is this age and wont be better soon bla bla bla, right now bailey is dominate compared to carr so STFU, then to question if I played football before cause I can name guys that are clearly better than average carr off my head is comical. now quit crying cause it was easier than you expected to name better players. now if we was to talk about the future players being better cause the age factor guess you gotta add in CB claiborne cause once he enters he is better than carr same with blackmon at WR and bowe.

by the great thunderlips on Jan 14, 2012 7:11 PM CST up reply actions

Bowe

Was making Bailey look like a little girl before he got hurt in the last game. Bailey was getting turned around and was completely lost. He’s been a great player, but is definitely on the decline and Carr is on the rise. Would take Carr over Bailey right now and any time in the future.

by JayhawksNChiefs on Jan 14, 2012 7:43 PM CST up reply actions

what did he do the game earlier in the year?

bailey is still the better player easily. charles woodsons old self is better than carr still.

by the great thunderlips on Jan 14, 2012 7:46 PM CST up reply actions

I look at most recent events.

With a real NFL QB cough*Orton*cough, Bowe made Champ look silly.

charles woodsons old self is better than carr still.

What are you talking about, I’m not going to respond to every random, irrelevant thought that pops in your head.

by JayhawksNChiefs on Jan 14, 2012 7:48 PM CST up reply actions

irrelevant?

really? uh earth to you we was talking about bailey not being better than carr cause his age, well woodson is older and also better than carr, age doesnt automatically make you worse bailey still has more talent than carr even at his age.

imagine what bowe would have done to carr with orton in that game now that would have been ugly. carr is not a top 10 corner and bowe is not a top 10 WR. top 12 yes but not top 10 sorry.

by the great thunderlips on Jan 14, 2012 7:52 PM CST up reply actions

Bad list tbh

TYou can’t name 10 WR better than Bowe, because he is a top 10 WR.

You got, Fitz, Megatron, Andre, Nicks, Welker (although Bowe would put up way bigger numbers in his system), Greg Jennings and that’s about it. After that every WR is about equal to or worse than D Bowe.

For CB’s I can name plenty better than Carr. Revis, Nnamdi, Woodson, Rogers, Taylor, Gamble, Finnegan, Bailey, Flowers, Peterson, Joseph, Haden, Grimes, Routt, Goodman, Leon hall, Tramon, Webster, Thomas, Tillman. There’s 20 right there an I’m sure I missed a few.

by JC25FoMVP on Jan 15, 2012 10:37 AM CST via mobile up reply actions

Like which drop?

Can you name a drop he had this year when it really mattered?
Do you really think we are going to get our hands on a better receiver than Bowe in the next decade?

If Bowe does leave, people will see what he can do with a competent QB. He’s going to be a force.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 4:00 PM CST up reply actions

He dropped the ball in the endzone against oakland didnt he?

against indi last year he dropped the ball in the end zone thats just off my head.

by the great thunderlips on Jan 14, 2012 4:01 PM CST up reply actions

I remember

the one against Indy, but I believe he has been improving year in and year out. I honestly dont remember any big drops for him, and I feel the ones recorded as “drops” are due to passes behind him or off in some way thrown by our great QBs

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 4:04 PM CST up reply actions

Actually if you put that play on slow-mo

you will see that the Oakland defender has his arm wrapped around Bowes. The fact that Bowe kept his arm close to his body and almost caught it shows how strong he is. It would have been a great one-hander.

Im pretty

sure our losses big picture were lost by Cassel, and not by bowe

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 4:41 PM CST up reply actions

So

name me 10 WR better than Bowe

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 4:43 PM CST up reply actions

HES HAD 1 ALL SEASON HOLY FUCKING SHIT

Can we please stop the blasephemy. He dropped one significant pass all season and you guys act like he’s the scum of the earth. He took the game over on the last two drives that should’ve won the game. He made the plays when it truly mattered. HOW ABOUT BLAMING WHOEVER LET SEYMOUR BLOCK TWO FIELD GOALS????

by JC25FoMVP on Jan 15, 2012 10:16 AM CST via mobile up reply actions

the previous season, even leading in td's, he had some major drops that lost football games.

the argument is moreso whether or not hes a top 5 money wr….thats tough to say, its a bit like stevie johnson, hes put up some nice numbers for buffalo, but drops some big ones as well. both will be paid well, bowe will get more as he should, but….is he a top 5 wr?

Pay Brandon Carr/Romeo
Team Colquitt

by SDChief on Jan 15, 2012 2:06 PM CST up reply actions

He doesnt deserve top 5 money

Hes not better than AJ, Fitz, Nicks, Megatron, or Jennings. But hes a top 7 or 8 WR and deserves top 7 or 8 money. People saying he isnt a top 10 WR is ridiculous to me.

by JC25FoMVP on Jan 16, 2012 4:07 PM CST up reply actions

THIS

80% of the Chiefs Touchdowns given up were to Wide Outs over 6’3. We have D. Thomas, Heyward-Bey, and Vincent Jackson 2x a year. We also have Kellen Winsolow, Julio Jones, and Jimmy Graham / Marquees Colston next year.

Carr is fine, but I wouldn’t value him over someone who could reduce TDs. I also don’t see Carr ever becoming a ball-hawk Corner. In terms of value Kirkpatrick has the most.

by Shackett on Jan 14, 2012 6:17 PM CST up reply actions

Question is would you take

Carr and Martin(or fill in draft pick) over Kirkpatrick?

What a year! At least we have the Royals... Oh Wait!

by KSU-Chief on Jan 14, 2012 4:30 PM CST up reply actions

The Question is....

Is a Middle First Round RIGHT Tackle worth that much?

I like Martin, but I’d rather try to get a tackle in the 2nd (Zebrie Sanders).

by Shackett on Jan 14, 2012 6:20 PM CST up reply actions

That was the point

It wasnt about taking Martin it was about signing our own guy and still being able to draft another position of need.

Our D

is already a good possibility to be at a top 5 defense next year with Eric Berry and Siler coming back.

We should not yield important pieces to a basically completed puzzle in the secondary. Concentrating on our needs in the draft, and keeping the players who have played well in the system especially when we have plenty of money to do so is smart.

by andrew33 on Jan 14, 2012 3:51 PM CST reply actions

YUP! If Carr does indeed split?

I’d rather have Claiborne though if he’s still available at #11 or 12; that guy just flies all over the field. I kinda have a feeling Carr will split if he gets a higher offer from another team. The Pats have drafted quite a few 1st round CB’s and one or two safeties over the years. The feeling is growing on me that Pioli will go CB in the 1st if Carr leaves … or maybe the 2nd if the right guy is still there?

I like Kirkpatrick’s height and physicality in the run game, but he seems to be best at being a pure cover corner. Sooo … Kirkpatrick might not the best fit to play the matchup zone that Crennel has absolutely loved scheming at least since his Pats days – if not even earlier?

I like Dennard too for his press man, zone, smarts and run-stopping abilities; he kinda reminds me of a bigger Flowers. I could put in a good word for Janoris Jenkins here, as well. But he seems to like (or has liked in the past) the ganja a little too much; he’d make a good Bengal. But Jenkins has the talent and skills for that high a pick, and to run Crennel’s schemes … well maybe? (you gotta be purty smart to get Romeos coverages down pat, too)

Ehh … I’m kinda iffy on taking Kirkpatrick since he doesn’t seem to be ideal for Crennel’s matchup zone schemes. I think Claiborne, Dennard – and maybe even Minnifield – would better scheme fits. But the question is – do any of these above mentioned guys merit a 11th or 12th pick? Hmm …

If we don't want him then at least tag & trade

don’t let a 25 yr old walk free. Get somethin for him. I think Bowe would actually be more expensive to extend. I personally would extend Carr & franchise/trade Bowe. Say ….. to Philly for both of their 2nds. Don’t think DeSean Jackson wants to come back it sounds like. Or even NE. They have 2 1sts & 2 2nds. Both of those teams r in need of a WR

by HIT34MAN on Jan 14, 2012 4:10 PM CST reply actions

The Patriots will not trade for a reciever and pay him

We may get a 2nd

We won’t get anymore. Just look at all the random recievers that did big things this year. It seems as if recievers are growing on trees as of late. The draft is cheaper and not much of a difference in production.

"Let Carr leave"?

I’ve seen this alot in the questions surrounding Carr so far. The fact is it has nothing to do with the Chiefs letting Carr leave because it’s entirely in Carrs court. If he leaves then he chose to leave, no one “let” him.

"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"

by GenericBrand on Jan 14, 2012 5:15 PM CST reply actions

This.

It’s not as simple as just re-signing them. And I think both these guys want to go where the money is, which is what’s concerning.

by bamachief5558 on Jan 14, 2012 6:08 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

so we let carr walk and use our pick on this guy

OR…

We could keep Carr and address another area. Why let good free agents walk? It’s easier to sign a free agent who is already on our team than to sign a free agent from elsewhere or hope a draft prospect falls to us.

by Vince D on Jan 14, 2012 6:14 PM CST reply actions

or how about we pass up the CB position in the first.

Then address our biggest problem… the offensive line with our 1st pick.

Go Chiefs!!!!

by ravenhawk on Jan 14, 2012 6:17 PM CST up reply actions

Offensive line

I believe that a great offensive line makes the running back and quarterback much better. I want to take an offensive tackle or Decastro with the first and continue to build our o-line. Better to re-sign Carr who has worked with Romeo and knows what is expected of him on this defense which could be great with Berry back. Franchise or sign Bowe and our offense should be a lot better next year.

by Trey85 on Jan 14, 2012 6:27 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Sorry, but this is a stupid idea

Let me see, we have a good starting corner, and we might let him leave, so we can burn a high first round draft choice on his replacement. Then, we can start on our desperate needs, like offensive line, with our second round pick? And the reason we would allow this to happen is…..money? We have plenty of money. We saved a lot of money this year. Get our core players signed up. We will never win a Super Bowl playing Fantasy Football with our players.

Somebody remind this guy that he can’t go to Gates late at night for a slab in any other city in the country.

by HowSweetItIs on Jan 14, 2012 6:48 PM CST reply actions

Its getting funny that so many people on here are talking like the team can make Carr re-sign

Its Carr’s decision, unless we want to franchise him, which I guess I’m good with, as long as we do re-sign Bowe. If we can’t sign either, I rather franchise Bowe

I'm so overrated, I'm underrated.

by RememberDelaney37 on Jan 14, 2012 7:16 PM CST via mobile reply actions

thats the one issue

if hes asking reasonable money, they better pay him, because i think then you dont fix the obvious o-line issues because who knows how the next rounds shake out maybe some te falls to us and we have to go there instead of oline in rd 2 or something

id rather not open another issue on this team, the secondary is a strong point, and yeah with berry that may offset a loss of carr, but i dont really want to test that theory unless hes asking flowers money

Why not

Just draft the best player available, unless we have a star at that position already? Where do we have stars that don’t need help? Nowhere on offense. Maybe SS, and OLB? Just take the best player and we’ll get him on the field. He’ll make everyone around him better in the process.
