Do you guys really want Flynn? That has Cassel written all over it. Why would we want Jeff Fisher? He might be a big name but his wins/loses aren’t that impressive. He runs a completely different defense and he would have cleaned house with our coaching staff. With the injuries this year our D played great more then it didn’t so let’s hire Jeff Fisher and gut the team. That makes a lot of sense.... How have they not made a chance to get a QB? Just 3 years ago they traded for a guy who had a hell of a year with the Patriots and gave him a front loaded contract. Btw the QB had a pretty damn good year in 2010 and he was the best option at the time. Then he sucked and got injuried last year and Pioli went and paid Orton to play 5 games. What makes you think Pioli won’t go get the best QB available? His track record shows he will. What is Crennel suppose to say? Cassel sucks and throw him under the bus? That’s a great way to lose a locker room. How abut Piolis ego is too big to give up on his so called mistake of Cassel? He had no problem firing Haley which was his hire too. He front loaded Cassels contract because he knew he probably wasn’t the long term answer. At the time who would you have rather had? Sanchez, Croyle, or Thigpen? Looking back Cassel looks pretty good. Granted I see some mistakes and wish for more wins. Let's have some common sense and not listen to everything the media says. Media has to be at least half of what's wrong in America.

Sorry I kinda double posted this..

I basically wrote the same thing in a fan shot thread. It seems I keep coming back to these same topics and felt like going on a rant to everyone. Good morning AP.

I'd take Orton (or Cassel for that matter) over Flynn

we don't always agree

but I am with you all the way on this one.

I agree on most points

Though I don’t think Cassel looks pretty good. I think he has a peak of “serviceable” with a tendency to drop off down toward “subpar”. But who knows – maybe the real problem for Cassel has been Haley and the convoluted play calling committee.

But I just don’t think Cassel’s mechanics are very solid, and I think he has a little trouble making fast and decisive reads.

Love the guy’s work ethic and toughness though.

Fisher is a good coach who had to work under essentially Al Davis Lite in Bud Adams. (Seriously, Bud is f’in nuts). But he’s a defensive guy, and I think philosophically pretty different from Romeo – so that would’ve been an awkward fit.

Flynn – at best I’d be okay with signing him as a free agent to compete for the starting gig or be a good backup. But I wouldn’t give him starter money like we gave Cassel up front. I’d take Orton over both of them at this point, though.

It's no fun if I have to explain it.

Agreed

I agree with everything you said. Its time to move on from Cassette IMO but at the time I don’t think there was a better option. To me Pioli hasn’t shown anything that would make us think he won’t try to get the best QB available. The other points was what I was trying to say

Fans want that now

If it doesn’t work they will want Piolis head…remember how many fans were excited about Palko starting over Cassette when he went down

BS. Yea, Flynn actually played and started in College (11-2 record) and was

Most Valuable Player in the BCS National Championship game. What did Cassel do? Didn’t even start in College. Even though Flynn has only gotten into 2 games so far as a pro, look at his stats.

Started his first pro game in 2010 at New England (11-2) in Week 15, and his 100.2 passer rating in the contest was the highest by any NFL quarterback making his first career start against a team with a 10-2 record or better since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.

He’s 1-1 in his two starts against New England and Detroit. He’s was 73 of 115 for 951 yards. Yes, I’d take Flynn any day over Cassel. Flynn will be an upper level QB over the next few years and he’s been learning behind Rogers for 4 years and a year behind Favre.

We’ve seen what Cassel can and can not do, and it’s not even close.

Regarding Fisher, he’ll be a better coach (his record 147-126, one SB) over the next few years vs. Crennel (24-40) and he’s younger and I respect his opinion. He was not interested in coming to the Chief’s because he could see that they were not committed to winning. But, I will support Crennel and hope he does well. However, I’ll bet that two years from right now, the Rams (2-14 now) end their season with a better record than the Chief’s (7-9 now).

Cassel played well against weak teams, was made to look like the bad QB he is against the good teams. And, if Pioli does go out and gets a franchise level QB, I’ll take it all back but as of right now I don’t see it and I don’t see anything that indicates that he’s even giving Orton an opportunity to compete or why wouldn’t he at least say so.

We really don’t know what the truth is about Haley. I don’t dismiss the fact that Haley stood his ground and wanted some things done that Pioli would not support. I don’t think that Haley did everything right but he sure was not given a decent backup until "after" Cassel went down and if the truth was known, there might be a lot of other problems that we don’t know about and I doubt that they were all Haley’s fault.

And the final point: Cassel doesn’t look "pretty" good. Orton came in without having much time to get to know this team and looked much better and more aggressive than Cassel. Most knowledgeable fans have noticed this right from the beginning. One pole on JSS show the fans favor Orton 77% to Cassel at 18%. Fans can see if a QB is checking down, how he’s handling pressure, how he throws a long pass, how he plays play action, how he handles a screen and in all those areas, Orton was much better than Cassel. Like Romeo, Cassel is a great guy, just not a great QB and SB teams need a great or way above average QB to be "consistent."

The team is not committed to winning???

Did you ever think that considering Fisher’s past experiences with personnel, he would want most, if not all of that control, which he will likely be getting in St Louis considering they fired their GM and didn’t hire a new one before they hired a head coach? The writing is on the wall about why Fisher chose the Rams over the Chiefs. So tired of these “Chiefs don’t want to win, that is why no one good wants to come here” rants that make absolutely no sense.

Furthermore, the conspiracy theories about Haley and Pioli have got to stop. Its been over a month and Haley isn’t coming back. If you can’t see all the reasons why Haley was fired and have to attempt to come up with nefarious reasons by his bosses for his well-deserved release, then just save it for your twitter messages to Haley. Its done over with here. Haley is long gone, and he ain’t coming back to lead this team into mediocrity

One last thing

I’m not sure how you can take TWO GAMES worth of data and info and claim someone is a better player than someone else with several seasons of data. Remember in 2008, when Cassel had 2 games, back-to-back, in which he threw for over 400 yards? Yeah, that should match up fine with the info you are providing about Flynn. That makes Cassel just as good as Flynn, right?

I'm so overrated, I'm underrated.

by RememberDelaney37 on Jan 14, 2012 12:07 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

no

But you can take his entire college career and those 2 games and study flynn is good better than Cassel in all mechanics and in those 2 games has dominated more than Cassel ever has. I would take Orton first flynn second get rid of Cassel he is terrible he hasn’t learned and pioli would be foolish to keep him atleast flynn has a higher ceiling and could reach a good ll ala matt shaub

by rickrock58 on Jan 14, 2012 1:03 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Flynn an upper-level QB?

Paging Kevin Kolb. And Fisher sucks, the dude wants control and yet didn’t develop shit in Tennessee but mediocrity. Romeos D smashes anything Fisher can come up with. And by the way, co-ordinator or not Romeo has 5, count em FIVE Superbowl rings, to Fishers 0. The Rams are going nowhere but to Los Angeles.

Cassel looked "pretty good"

With the pats and in 2010…Orton was night and day this year….never said that wasn’t true…

Yeah the Patriots were 11-2

But that record doesn’t indicate that the Pats have the 25th ranked D as of last year and the Lions have the 23rd ranked D this year, so what does it matter that he played so well against a couple of poor defenses? Also, Cassel learned behind that guy that leads the Patriots i think his name is like Tim Brady or Tom Brady or something like that, I heard that guy is a pretty good QB. In the end there’s no saying how good Flynn will be until someone signs him and we see next year. I would be hesitant to take him over Cassel next year, and if I’m being honest, if it were up to me I think I would rather see what Ricky can do before I would sign Flynn.

Yes I want Flynn,

and that is based on how he has played in preseason the last three years. He can make all of the throws, is poised and makes good decisions. I may be a little biased though because I wanted the Chiefs to draft him when not many people even thought he was worth drafting. I also like players who have played and won games at a high level.

We'll get a good look at Flynn tomorrow,

after the Giants knock Mr. Double-check outta da game!
