My response to the many emails and phone calls I've received from the Kansas City Chiefs attempting to get me to renew my season tickets this year.

The things you complain about are all things that you knew going in. So I don’t really see the need to complain about the GM, the product, who they draft, when they ask, or what the Chiefs need to “give you” if you are to renew. Also, one simple “no I’m not going to renew” will do the job of getting rid of the pesky calls.

Actually I didn't...

I received the tickets from my wife as a Christmas gift. After having them I’ve talked to many people who had no idea you were given absolutely no break on parking or tickets as a season ticket holder, so it’s not as commonly known as you might think.

by adammiller on Jan 13, 2012 5:43 PM CST reply actions

Well your case is obviously different then...

But you can’t feel bad for people who invest their money and don’t do their own research. Everyone of those items is something that the ticket agent would gladly tell you if asked.

I definitely agree...

and I don’t mean to come off as real bitchy, although I think I did as I re-read it….more-so it’s a what they would need to do to get my business back. Which I know that Clark Hunt could care less about getting my measly 1500.00.

Your points are right on. Even though I've been a fan for ages, for the first time in my life

I’m just not sure as to why. As long as this team keeps forcing Cassel to be the starting QB, it will be very difficult for me to have any enthusiasm about this team. St Louis went out and hired Fisher and Fisher picked St. Louis because he felt that they were committed to winning and actually had a potential franchise QB. In fact, I personally believe (your hearing it here first) that two years from now, at this time, St. Louis will have finished the year with a better record than KC.

I can't agree with you for two reasons.

It started out ok, but you have two statements that make me feel like you know a)nothing about the current state of this team and b)you know nothing about financial business matters.

a) You said “are a long way from being a continually competitive team (actually they are only a quarterback away but the ownership has shown no desire to find a real potential franchise quarterback)”

Most agree, because by nature its a what have you done lately for me league. However, would you have said that last year? I highly doubt it. Lets not forget the rash of injuries we were plagued with. Lets not also forget about lack of depth that also hindered us in the secondary and O-line. Do you really want Barry Richardson protecting your new QB? No. Mediocre RB’s come about all the time in this league. From no ones to someones. So why didnt Jackie Battle? Maybe it had to do with Richardson and Casey on the oline, on bad, one old. Lets build depth while we rely on the hand of the QB that just 365 days ago had us in a playoff game.

b)You said: “The interest you obtain on season ticket holders money 6 months before we get to see the product can probably more than recoup the cost of the parking pass.”

Do you have any concept of what interest rates are right now? In liquid situations? Near 0. I know its a lot of money, but not the money it takes to maintain that parking lot, and clean it up after the games. Use some common sense on that one buddy.

All of this stuff is on the Chiefs

The Chiefs signed Casey Weigmann and kept him past his prime.

The Chiefs went into this season with Jackie Battle as a back up when they had the ability to replace him in the offseason.
They had the opportunity to replace Barry Richardson in the draft and free agency and decided to keep him.

My point.

The Chiefs are totally responsible for the condition of this team. This regime had two seasons to build depth before this year and they opted for the players that they had on the roster instead. Is that the fault of the consumer/fan? Of course not.

Matt Cassel, Barry Richardson, Sabby Piscetelli, Jon McGraw, Jereheme Urban, Jared Gaither…etc were all the faults of the Chiefs. Fans shouldn’t have to be cautious about the fact the Richardson was protecting the QB. He was the Chiefs guy, choosen based on ability that they felt he had…

Why should fans give them a pass for that?

I know plenty about the current state of the team

but I think we just disagree on some issues and that’s fine. I know you can’t just find an elite quarterback but you can make strides to attempt to. The offensive line which isn’t good would not stop me from trying to find that quarterback as an elite quarterback makes bad offensive lines look good. Yes I’d prefer they improve the offensive line as well and I think they could.

As far as interest rates I’m not implying that parking should be free for everyone but I’m saying right now when it’s obviously difficult for them to sell season tickets they should offer more benefits. Once the team is back to where we’ve been before when tickets are much harder to get they obviously wouldn’t need to offer those kinds of deals. However, with the current state it is over the top financially irresponsible to buy season tickets.

by adammiller on Jan 13, 2012 8:46 PM CST up reply actions

I agree with you

I could get season tickets but I won’t. In fact after the 2010 season I refused to pay for any tickets in 2011. I was so pissed how we lost to the raiders and the ravens that I decided they get no money from me until they get a rock star QB to win us some games. I attended 2games this past season because I got free tickets. I will not pay for tickets until we make the playoffs or get some balls and get a real QB. It’s much more convenient and affordable to watch from home. RG3 or another bold QB move would make me believe they are at least trying. 4 games of palko? Really? Fuck You, you get zero of my dollars. I can’t believe that was allowed to even happen. Hopefully they do something or we are headed nowhere and we’ve been there long enough

Good points. If they indicated in any way that they were going to try to get Manning, Flynn,

RGIII or any other reasonable option (like letting Orton compete for the job in open competition) then we fans would be enthusiatic about the future, but when it seems obvious that they hired Crennel (a very nice guy, good coach, but it appears, a company “yes” man) and he comes out touting the Cassel credentials ( probably as fed to him by Pioli) then it is obvious to most fans that this team is not committed to winning. Then, when Fisher, indicates that KC is not committed to winning it is pretty much confirmed and then backed up by Fisher who goes to a team precisely because they do have a potential franchise QB, it all becomes pretty clear. The Chief’s think the fans are just sheep that they can pull along over the edge with this BS, but they are wrong again. At least not all of us.

It comes down to one thing

I agree with you that there really is no incentive to purchase season tickets in January. It has become too easy to purchase tickets during the season that are usually below face value. Buying individual ticket also keeps you from having to purchase those full price preseason games. Without providing some sort of additional incentive, there just isn’t any reason to buy tickets this far in advance.

It's funny. All we hear is about consistency and the "right 53." But if that right 53 does not

include a potential, franchise, elite QB, then the team is never going to be consistant and in truth will never have the right 53. We all know this is a QB driven league. Look at where the franchise QB’s are right now, there still in the playoffs. If a team does not have at least a top 8 QB, it’s chances of being a consistant winner and winning a Super Bowl are at almost Zero.

You really want Flynn?

That has Cassel written all over it. What does Jeff Fisher have to do with this? He might be a big name but his wins/loses aren’t that impressive. He run a completely different defense and he would have cleaned house with our coaching staff. With the injuries this year our D played great more then it didn’t so let’s hir Jeff Fisher and gut the team. That makes a lot of sense come on man. What will it take to please you? How have they not made a chance to get a QB? Just 3 years ago they traded for a guy who had a hell of a year with the Patriots and gave him a front loaded contract. Btw the QB had a pretty damn good year in 2010 and he was the best option at the time. Then he sucked and got injuried last year and Pioli went and paid Orton to play 5 games. What makes you think Pioli won’t go get the best QB available? His track record shows he will. What is Crennel suppose to say? Cassel sucks and throw him under the bus? That’s a great way to lose a locker room. How abut Piolis ego is too big to give up on his so called mistake of Cassel? He had no problem firing Haley which was his hire too. He front loaded Cassels contract because he knew he probably wasn’t the long term answer. At the time who would you have rather had? Sanchez, Croyle, or Thigpen? Looking back Cassel looks pretty good.

BS. Yea, Flynn actually played and started in College and was MOST Valuable Player in

the College Championship game. What did Cassel do? Even though Flynn has only gotten into 2 games so far as a pro, look at his stats. Yes, I’d take Flynn anyday over Cassel. Flynn will be an upper level QB over the next few years and he’s been learning behind Rogers.

Regarding Fisher, he’ll be a better coach (his record 147-126, one SB) over the next few years vs. Crennel (24-40) and he’s younger and I respect his opinion. He was not interested in coming to the Chief’s because he could see that they were not committed to winning. But, I will support Crennel and hope he does well. However, I’ll bet that two years from right now, the Rams (2-14 now) end their season with a better record than the Chief’s (7-9 now).

Cassel played well against weak teams, was made to look like the bad QB he is against the good teams. And, if Pioli does go out and get a franchise level QB, I’ll take it all back but as of right now I don’t see it and I don’t see anything that indicates that he’s even giving Orton an opportunity to compete or why wouldn’t he at least say so.

We really don’t know what the truth is about Haley. I don’t dismiss the fact that Haley stood his ground and wanted some things done that Pioli would not support. I don’t think that Haley did everything right but he sure was not given a decent backup until “after” Cassel went down and if the truth was known, there might be a lot of other problems that we don’t know about and I doubt that they were all Haley’s fault.

And the final point: Cassel doesn’t look “pretty” good. Orton came in without having much time to get to know this team and looked much better and more aggressive than Cassel. Most knowledgable fans have noticed this right from the beginning. One pole on JSS show the fans favor Orton 77% to Cassel at 18%. Fans can see if a QB is checking down, how he’s handling pressure, how he throws a long pass, how he plays playaction, how he handles a screen and in all those areas, Orton was much better than Cassel. Like Romeo, Cassel is a great guy, just not a great QB and SB teams need a great or way above average QB to be “consistant.”

The reason Fisher went to St Louis

They are already losers so he doesn’t have to really do much to seem like he made a big difference. Going 8 and 8 would make him look like Lombardi in St Louis. He only has to be near average to seem like he is awesome. Don’t be fooled

I'm also interested to see if the Ram's have given Fisher personnel control...likely one of

his biggest wants in a HC gig…

For a number of reasons, I’m glad Pioli didn’t go for Fisher.

I'm dressin my voodoo doll in stripes every season...
