Pulling for Houston, New Orleans, GB and a tie that never ends thus forcing Houston to go to the Super Bowl.

Giants have a real good shot

at an upset. GB’s D is epically bad (geez, sounds like the Chiefs under Vermeil) and last time they played Giants lost 35-38. Giants did same thing to the Patriots that year they were supposedly unbeatable. My pick is NO over Houston in the SB. Balt’s been pretty crap this year actually and super inconsistent, NE’s defense is also epically bad. Houston has great D, great running game and if their QB can just be an effective manager they have a great shot this year. Shott, NE’s D is so bad I think Denver is actually capable of upsetting them but I don’t want to sound too crazy.

by Nicoloco on Jan 12, 2012 8:38 PM CST up reply actions

I agree..

I just have family who like the Packers so I root for them often. Plus besides the Pats, in my neck of the woods there are lots of Giants fans. No fun.

It makes me nervous

how much I like Houston this weekend. Spread is up to 9.

by Steve_in_RI on Jan 12, 2012 9:36 PM CST up reply actions

Spread is a pretty flat 7.5 everywhere

It’s only 9 with slanted juice at the square books like Bovada. If you want the 9, you’re paying -135.

Personally, I’d rather have +7.5 at -110.

BUT, I think the better bet is GB/Balt -110 6 point tease to -1.5. I think both win, although I agree the Balt game should be within a score.

Draft talk

Would anyone like to see us get back to have a devastating offense line? How many problems would this fix/.

by PKJW on Jan 12, 2012 8:35 PM CST reply actions

I am one

who wants the Shields, Roaf, etc dominant line back. It does hide QB weaknesses and in an offensive league we can use any advantage we can get.

I mean Trent Green was below average almost everywhere else (not his fault in St. Lou) but here for one reason. The mammoths in front of him.

So I see a lot of comments about

Trading up for RG3, re-signing Orton, aquiring Flynn, developing stanzi, or drafting a qb in the 2nd or later rounds. I guess Im wondering why nobodys discussing Ryan Mallet anymore. A year behind bradyfor ryan mallet is at minumum better than stanzi. Id be willing to give another 2nd for their backup unproven qb.

by Montana Chief on Jan 12, 2012 8:36 PM CST via mobile reply actions

chiefs thought tyson jackson was worth 3rd over all.

Plus I think the talents there, it was just a character issue

by Montana Chief on Jan 12, 2012 8:42 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Either way, Mallet for a 2 would not fit .

I am saying our 2 could be Dline, Inside LB, TE, areas we are very vunerable

Pioli says he believes in a combo of the two.

More like best player available in a position of need, presumably unless a player falls to them that they can’t pass up, no matter the position.

by Tarkus on Jan 12, 2012 8:52 PM CST up reply actions

You avoided my question.

The Chiefs didn’t think he was worth a 3rd round pick last year. Why would think think he’s worth a 2nd round pick now?

by Tarkus on Jan 12, 2012 8:48 PM CST up reply actions

I feel a year studying with Brady, and under Belichick

Will do a hell of a lot more for the kids maturity than being the stud qb at Arkansas. I also believe that his maturity was the only thing held against him in the draft. Plus we’ve seen what happens when you try to roll with a palko, so yeah he’s a 1st round talent that quite possibly has all his ducks in a row now.

by Montana Chief on Jan 12, 2012 8:54 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Its possible he could be great

But we have not seen anything to reflect that. We know less about Mallet than we knew about Cassel.

by PKJW on Jan 12, 2012 8:56 PM CST up reply actions

With Orton

At least we know what we are getting, and we could keep the #2 in your scenario

by PKJW on Jan 12, 2012 8:57 PM CST up reply actions

I would be disappointed

But I would still build an amazing offensive line, as opposed to taking large gambles on high risk QBs. Trading picks for Qbs is a Raider move. If Flynn was available, then maybe, but for Mallet, not buying it.

by PKJW on Jan 12, 2012 9:01 PM CST up reply actions

Im actually with you, I would love an awesome oline and

A nasty defense, but I’ve seen that before and Im ready to take some sort of risk for a quarterback.

by Montana Chief on Jan 12, 2012 9:06 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

I do not want to go 4-12 again

Due to some knucklehead at QB like Mallet. He is not who I want to see leading My team. I am not a Cassel fan, but at least the guy has class. We can do better than Mallet. If a replacement is what we want, then Jason Campell is available

by PKJW on Jan 12, 2012 9:08 PM CST up reply actions

Dirk Koetter/Dexter McCluster

I want Dirk Koetter to be our new OC. He is very underrated as one of the good offenisve minds in all of football, who understands balance between a running game and taking shots downfield. Whoever, the OC is, I think McCluster has been under-utilized in the passing game. The bubble screens are great to get him in space but it seems like that is the only play they use him on in the pass game. He needs to be in the slot and run those intermediate routes underneath a la Wes Welker and get downfield. This guy has the ability to bust out and be a force in the run/pass game. Those are two topics I needed to address and throw out there. What do you all think?

by Cluster8219 on Jan 12, 2012 8:57 PM CST reply actions

Agreed,

The dude is Deberg like with Play Action

by PKJW on Jan 12, 2012 9:09 PM CST up reply actions

I agree

as well as with the playaction comment below. People throw out a lot of negative Orton stats and yes he has struggled at times. I will offer though that his success in Chicago with a bunch of nobodies running routes shows he can make guys better.

But here he faced three teams all with something to lose in the game. So no excuses like “Rivers fumbled the ball” or “all the Raiders had the plague”. Each team needed that game for a different reason. And he helped generate more offensive excitement than we had seen since the MNF game on Halloween. Did we get on the board enough? Nope. But that’s where JC comes in as well as Moeaki and help on the line.

If we can make the deal work, I’ll go all in on Kyle Orton next season.

took almost 2 whole seasons,

but it seems they finally got the ball to him in space because w Orton, defenses had to respect the pass, so they dropped extra guys into coverage opening up the flat where he could make guys miss & use his speed to break some big gains.

Daniels was decent in spot duty when Flowers got hurt.

It would likely be between him and Jalil Brown. Chiefs would also likely look for a replacement in the draft of Free Agency.

If he’s walking, the Chiefs will know before anyone and will be able to plan accordingly.

That's scary

A starting CB battle between Daniels and Brown. Yikes. It seems counter-productive to not sign Carr, but replace him w/ a FA signing. It is best for all parties to just re-sign the guy.

It definitely is.

The Chiefs need him, and he isn’t likely to get the same offer from other teams. He doesn’t have the name recognition to demand a big contract from anyone accept us (or other AFC West teams).

Depending on what we do in Free Agency...

that could be a pretty solid move. However, 1st rd RBs are becoming less and less appealing in the NFL. Not much longevity anymore and the league has become pass-focused.

We can’t keep Cassel, rely on the run, and then put all our hope in Charles coming off a major knee surgery. We better have the best run-game in the NFL if they plan to continue on with Cassel.

agreed but...

that smells an awful lot like Priest/LJ which kinda turned into a disaster. That was more LJ’s fault, though, and ours for resigning him although the fans were clamoring for it. I think the Chiefs would be better served by going all OL in the first 2 rounds but Richardson is tempting. We sorely lack a short yardage back and you can’t win and maintain drives if you can’t convert the third and shorts.

I’m all about the beef, but they’re comparing Richardson to an AP-like prospect, you can’t pass that guy up for a RT IMO. You might find a good RB later in the draft, but I know you can find a RT in the 2nd.

I’ve been clamoring for DeCastro, Martin or Reiff for weeks. But I can add Richardson to the list of guys I’d be happy with now.

Sure you can.

Did you know Adrian Peterson has a losing record as a pro? Have you realized that the Titans have improved on their record from last year despite Chris Johnson having a bad season? The Packers and Patriots, who were a combined 28-4 this year, don’t have a noteworthy runningback at all.

Runningback is the most overrated position in the NFL, and no running back except Charles is worth a first, let alone a prospect, and especially when we already have Charles. If you spend that pick on a runningback you might as well just light it on fire for all the good it would do you.

What I found

David Wilson, RB, Virginia Tech
Wilson has been an absolute force at running back in three years at Blacksburg. Despite setting high standards every season, he has still managed to get better and better. Wilson rushed 59 times for 334 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman in 2009 (a 5.7 average per carry). Even when he started to see more and more playing time, the average remained the same. He had 113 attempts for 619 yards and five scores as a sophomore before really breaking out in 2011; 290 carries for 1709 yards and nine touchdowns.
