"Primed and Ready?"

Just was thinking about our roster, and some of the young guys who have been in the system for awhile. Some have gained much needed experience at of position they are being groomed for, and some only have gotten duty on Special Teams and by being on the practice squad. We have seen that Pioli has signed some of these guys to contracts to keep them here, and I'm thinking that there is a reason besides being fodder for the starters to practice against. Especially as it has been stated over and over how the team wants to "grow" players by drafting and developing them.

I'll toss a few names out, but feel free to toss your ideas into the mix. First, I think the Maine Man, Jovan Belcher was showing much better ability towards the end of this season and may have a breakout season next year. Being surrounded by good players and well coached by Gibbs and RAC certainly hasn't hurt in his development. Having Siler resigned is also good motivation, however Siler may be a big "IF", those are nasty injuries to overcome.

Second, is Guard Daryl Harris, who I thought may have been the guy getting groomed as Center. However it pans out, the team thunk enough of him to keep around after his Practice Squad eligibility ran out. I was a fan of his a couple of preseasons ago when Water's was injured and believed he played well before getting hurt himself. He may challenge Ryan Lidja for a spot if Hudson is the Center.

Third is Powe, the big sixth rounder from last year. He was a complete question mark to me as I thought he reached his ceiling in college. But, by moving him away from NT in college, I think he picked up some poor habits that didn't translate well, particularly playing high and losing leverage. He certainly has the size to compete in this league, it awaits to be seen if he has the desire and ability to make the transition. It ain't rocket science to play the nose, so I have hopes he has learned this past season and comes to camp with a fire lit under him and proves that he is the guy.

I could ramble on about a few others, but my fingers are tiring and I'll let you bring them into the conversation. What's important to me is that we can at least have hopes for some players to break into the lineup as we haven't seen much of that for sometime, maybe never. Is the pump "primed" and are the players "ready"? Go Chief's!!

I like Belcher

but he seems to be a polarizing figure here. People either love or hate him.

Belcher is a thumper, which is what you want an inside LB to be...

But he’s also slow. Linemen, if they get to him, can engage him for long periods of time. He’s not the dude, and we need to upgrade. Siler might be the one to do that. If we can just tweak the run defense and get a bit tougher in that area, this D is gonna be SCARY good.

I like the idea of Harris at Center

Hudson was arguably the best guard ever to play at Florida State (and I think he even played LG)…why mess with that?

Hmmm...Harris at Center? Is he big enough?

Albert/Hudson/Harris/Asamoah/Anyone but Richardson

Hudson is 300 and is considered much better suited for C than G ...

Harris could be a decent backup/utility … I think Wiegs retires and Hudson moves to the C slot, but we still need a stud like DeCastro at LG

you mess with that because the size and speed and ability of the NFL DLine and LBs is a world apart from the NCAA

Hudson was projected as C in the NFL well before he was drafted … that hasn’t changed, he’d make a great C for this team for many years, I’m sure … hook him up with DeCastro at LG and Asamoah at RG and the interior of the OLine would be studly for a decade

agreed

Plus, Harris was a disaster at C in preseason

I'm not worried about Powe's desire.

He filled a highlight reel in preseason with hustle alone.

I'm also curious about Toribio

Didn’t we extend him sometime recently? Or do I need to slow down on the meth consumption?

He's played in the pre-season and been inactive most of the time.

He’s showing 0 games played in 2011. I think he was inactive the whole time.

I mean, they’re keeping him around for some reason or another. I’m just curious as to why.

love this topic

In addition to the hours we spend praying for some big FAs and great draft steals… we forget just how much progress can really be made with development of players on the roster.

I think Powe, Mims, Bair, Siler, Hudson, Greenwod, Baldwin and Miller could all play significant roles in 2012 and beyond.

100% stag.........nothing better than a diamond in the ruff shining pretty.

…………..you can take a lot of pride in finding a player and developing him to become a good player. The player doesn’t have to be a star but just the fact that he is Home grown and a servicable NFL player, makes me happy.

Thanks bro, also I thought I'd see several folks talking up the no brainers like Baldwin,

Bailey and Brown. Oh well you never know. But damn if it ain’t a fun time of year with a site like this. I liked Siler, but of all the injured he worries me most as that injury can kill a career. I here all the Mims talk, but didn’t see anything last preseason to think he was close to being ready fore the big leagues. If Hudson can play well enough to start, and likely can, it would be a really good hit for Pioli. Look at Greenwood, can he displace DeMarrio Williams? Just think if we can get 3 of them in starting roles, what coup.
