Hue Jackson Fired By Oakland Raiders

It's not an offseason unless the Oakland Raiders fire their head coach and that's what we have today. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Raiders have fired head coach Hue Jackson.

This is just...unbelievable. The Raiders fire a head coach every other year it seems and Jackson, who took over for Tom Cable who was fired in 2010, barely made it a year as the head coach.

The Raiders hired Reggie McKenzie as GM last week and it had been reported that he could end up firing Jackson. I read the reports but I didn't believe the Raiders would fire their head coach...again.

Oh, Raiders...never change.

Not that I should be laughing, what with KC having 5 HCs since Marty.

But this is just funny.

Shouldn't be laughing...

because this probably means the Raiders are going after Joe Philbin and Matt Flynn. That could turn out to be a very potent combination.

No, Al Davis did.

And Hue Jackson was on board with that. Reggie McKenzie is going to turn this into HIS organization.

They will take the hit and trade Carson Palmer this offseason.

There had been rumors tying Oakland to Palmer for several weeks.

And he’d been on his “deathbed” for years.

His death was a result of one of the conditions of the deal.

The full deal was: For Palmer, a 1st this year, 1st next year, and a chance to study the relic containing Al’s soul.

Mike Brown’s was trying to replicate the process Al used to become a lich, but he accidentally destroyed Al’s phylactery, destroying his undead form and banishing his soul from the material plane.

This is who I want as the Chiefs OC!

I’ve been waiting for this announcement. Hue is an excellent offensive mind. His run scheme is dynamic and balanced. He developed Campbell very well and he knows the AFC West. This hire could make us real dangerous!

by Larryemcdaniel on Jan 10, 2012 12:59 PM CST reply actions

He's a cool guy. I've met him at a coaching clinic

His last press conference was blown out of proportion. He was pissed. The team had the division in their hands and ga e it away, I’d be pissed too. We could use his scheme, knowledge, and attitude on offense. Give me him and Trent Richardson!

by Larryemcdaniel on Jan 10, 2012 1:04 PM CST up reply actions

Oh, I wasn't so much talking about that presser..

He just seemed really cocky and arrogant to me whenever I saw him, such as after the Carson Palmer trade when asked about who was going to start, things like that.

As Chiefs OC, obviously this wouldn’t be an issue because I’d never hear from the guy, so I’m on board for that Hue in KC. Can’t argue with his track record.

have just as much speed if not more than what Chad Johnson and Douchmanzadeh had. Ocho ran like a 4.54 40 at the combine. Bowe ran a 4.51.

Not to mention the power running game in the NFL is dead due to rule changes.

Like it or not this is the era of the spread in the NFL. Don’t believe me look at all the really good teams for the last few years. They all run a variation of the spread. We need a QB more than anything IMO.

You don’t think Hue Jackson can’t work with Bowe, Breaston, and Baldwin? Raiders only used speedy guys because Al Davis wanted that! That’s not the philosophy of Hue. Also, all the fans want a beefier OL. Albert, Asamoah, and Hudson are fine. We need a new G and RT, so make the. Beefy. New RBs? We have Charles and can bring in a power guy. I don’t get it….

Not only does Hue work with his guys on Offense

he goes out of his way to find ways to help them be the players they could/should be. Like Darren McFadden. Without Hue, McFadden would not have reached his potential and become one of the best RB’s in the league (when healthy). Hue is not stuck on a specific offense. He took Jason Campbell and made him viable.

Hue Jackson builds around/uses what he has and he figures out a way to make the most out of it. Unlike some OC’s, like Josh McDaniel. Hue Jackson in KC would be a solid hire and I’m in total agreement with Larry here. Hue would be good for our offense. Love to see this happen. Plus, how motivated would he be to whip the Raiders twice every year? Great idea, hope it happens.

RG3, its easy as ABC.

A top 5 D and Charles/Richardson/Dex would make us SB contenders, ala 49ers

I'd rather see DeCastro than Richardson

But either would be nice. I just see our RZ struggles as a reflection of our line’s inablity to get “push” up the middle as the field shortens. DeCastro would go a long way towards fixing that.

THis last draft and offseason warmed me to Pioli considerably

He addressed needs much more clearly.

Baldwin, Houston, Hudson, Bailey, and Powe were all picks I absolutely loved. Also, I loved the Breaston, Gregg, and McClain signings.

Hopefully he shows as much concern with shoring up our weak spots this year.

not particularly impressed with Gregg, other than being a stopgap upgrade over Edwards

by PVChiefsfan on Jan 10, 2012 2:19 PM CST up reply actions

The thing is

We all know JC is going to be splitting carries with someone throughout his career…why not make it someone who’s a comparable talent? Instead of the D having to focus on the run half the time, force them to focus on it all of the time.

I’m fine with DeCastro or an OT, but I think Richardson would make the offense almost UN-defendable. And as a bonus, if either RB is injured the running game doesn’t just disappear.

How completely?

Coryell offense: midrange to deep passes, TE as ultimate safety valve/touchdown machine, heavy does of power running game.

Erhardt-Perkins offense: short to midrange passes (emphasis on “yards in chunks”), TE as blocker/safety valve typically, mix of zone/man schemes on the o-line with heavy doses of the power running game.

The biggest issues? How plays are referred to by the staff and players (color v/s number, for example).

Honestly, I'm still having a hard time shaking the idea...

of franchsing Bowe, then trading him along with maybe next year’s first to STL for that 2nd pick and getting RG3.

ESPECIALLY if Bowe is making unreasonable contract demands.

I see that offer as being at least as appealing to STL as anything else they’ll be offered, and not crippling us for the future.

well, that assumes Bowe's demands ARE unreasonable

it also assumes that Baldwin can make the next level jump to be what Bowe has been for us (talentwise, potentialwise, probably … headwise and taking charge of his own situation remains to be seen)

it also assumes that we can find OLinemen as good (or nearly as good) as DeCastro in the 2nd or 3rd (or FA, but the only one I see is Nicks and I can’t imagine him leaving the Saints)

it also assumes that RG3 is “NFL Ready” and that’s not a guarantee

it also assumes we have no OTHER immediate needs to fill with a top pick NEXT year

a lot of assumptions there, MN …

I can’t see how they would say no to Bowe and extra draft picks. You are getting an established WR asking with extra ammunition to fill the numerous holes the team has. For RG3, I would have to do it if the Rams were willing

we have much better secondary than the Steelers ... they sold out to stop the run which left themselves "exposed" in those man-on-man coverages

top that off with the broncos having a MUCH better gameplan overall …

but I agree: give Tebow some credit … and Fox & Co for their playcalling as well

they did what they needed to do, the Steelers didn’t … simple as that (and that OT play was a thing of beauty, it really was the perfect play)

some of the super wide-open guys that he threw worm-burners to or just flat out missed.

I heard so much about how he’s a “sight passer” and needs to see his guys open before throwing and so on. Even when he saw guys streaming wide open he couldn’t put it where it needed to be.

He completed some nice deep balls to guys in single coverage. Still, he only completed 10 passes, and less than 50%. When you complete 10 passes for over 300 yards – that says more to me about the opposing D than your “skill” at QB.

One of my best friends is a die hard Raiders fan and i always said they would never do anything until Al died, i just didn’t think it would be so soon. They will good here in a few years, they have a good young core of guys, not Chiefs good, but still good. If they could bring in some bright minds and fix their discipline problem then watch out. But they are still the Raiders so they will probably mess something up along the way.

2012 Chiefs Draft Picks by Falcon58: G DeCastro 1st round, NT Ta'amu 2nd round or OT Adcock 2nd/3rd round, TE Egnew 3rd round, RB Ganaway 5th/6th, QB Case Keenum 5th/6th. Resign: Carr, McClain, Bailey, Bowe, Orton (in that order). Trade Dorsey for picks, promote Gordon to DT/DE.

This makes me happy

Because he was actually doing a good job of turning that team around.

I think Thomas Jones would have better success in Bodybuilder competitions than he is havin right now in the NFL!

If by turning the team around

You mean taking Cable’s 8-8 team and leading them to another 8-8 record, I agree.

And by trading away their future for an average, turnover prone QB and…well nevermind you get the point.

This is Hilarious, I just told a raiders fan the other day. "I give Hue another year at the most"

The raiders organization will just now start to realize the damage this guy has done to there franchise. lol I love it!

Think maybe they were worried we’d hire Hue? Just a thought.

Like I said, just a thought.

Random as it is. Competing organizations tend to prefer not to make trades within their division. Coach swapping would probably be included in that as well.

That would be a nightmare trade for me. Way too much for a QB that is one hit away from a career ending injury.

And your telling me that if there is a chance to move up you wouldnt take it? Im not sure how you can rationalize going into next season with #7 under center..

did you see Cam newton play this year? Im determined that if he can do it, RG will do even better. Dude has a arm, intelligence, pocket presence, and is very mobile. If we have to give up Bowe i would, i love him and we would take a step back in the WR dept. but we can then address that by bringing in Colston or Vincent Jackson both who are going to be FA.

This doesn't surprise me at all.

I expected this. Hue Jackson was an Al Davis guy. Reggie McKenzie is going to change that entire culture. He is going to put HIS stamp on the team.

5 big moves for Oakland this offseason:

1. Hire Joe Philbin
2. Sign Matt Flynn
3. Trade Carson Palmer
4. Re-sign Michael Bush
5. Trade Darren McFadden

1. A nobody ask any packer coach/fan Mike makes all calls
2. Another Matt Cassel, product of the system
3. Typical Raiders move, lose the drafts pick and player
4. This would be a REAL smart move actually
5. Like 3 typical raider move.

Don't be fooled

McKenzie even called the Palmer a trade a “good move”. In any event, it is Mark Davis’ team, not Hue Jackson’s. He makes the final decisions.

by rightnasty on Jan 10, 2012 7:05 PM CST up reply actions

Whats he supposed to say?

What a stupid move now I’m stuck with this turnover prone, average QB. Palmer is all he’s got and he has zero options to change that. He’s not going to throw you’re only QB option under the bus.

"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"

by GenericBrand on Jan 10, 2012 7:08 PM CST up reply actions

Of course he's going to call it a good move.

That means nothing. He has no choice but to spin it as positively as he can.

And Hue acted as pseudo GM for Davis prior to McKenzie being hired.

Look

Palmer was coming out after 9 months on the couch, and he had some bad games. He also had some really good games, and made throws that Campbell could never make. In that last game against SD, he threw for 400 yards. He was the only one out there doing anything.

by rightnasty on Jan 10, 2012 11:17 PM CST up reply actions

most people would hesitate

to give that up for manning, let alone CP. you just dont trade your draft away like that. especially when you have a history of making bonehead personnel moves, which have set your franchise back continually.
