I know it's early and purely speculation, but there are rumors the Rams are interested in drafting Justin Blackmon (WR) with the number 2 pick. It makes sense. The Rams need long term WR talent and don't need to seek out another franchise QB in RG3. That said, it got me thinking. A move like this potentially moves RG3 to the number 3 spot where the Vikings are drafting. Again, the Vikes would probably pass on drafting RG3 but are probably eyeing the #3 spot for talent needed elsewhere on the team and likely wouldn't give up their #3 pick for very little. Following the Vikes is the Browns with the #4 pick, a team that also has questions at QB. If the Chiefs are serious about fixing the QB position, transactions need to be made with either STL or MIN. I don't think we have a whole lot to work with MIN and it's possible STL wouldn't be interested in dealing much with us unless we give up a lot!
I'm curious what others think about the draft positons this year and the potential for someone like RG3 to be passed up on this year. Next year's draft is sure to have more to pick from at the QB position, but how far in the draft ranks will we fall if we have an outstanding year in 2012 and what would we have to give up to grab one of the top prospects next year? I see it as a gamble either way and I'm one who tends to lean toward making the moves now. If the risk is higher that we either have to pay more for a top prospect or have to settle with less than a top 5 QB prospect next year, than I'm not interested.
I agree tenfold with keeping continuity as much as possible, but I am open to looking toward the future at the same time if it means developing a QB who could take us far for the next decade.
