Chiefs Still Leading Broncos, 7-3

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to lead the Denver Broncos, 7-3, through three quarters. The Broncos lone points came on a huge mistake by Javier Arenas who muffed a punt return. Arenas called for the fair catch on a Britton Colquitt punt and just missed it and the Broncos recovered.

The other story of the third quarter is that Dwayne Bowe went down with an apparent neck injury. He may not return to the game. He made a reception and went to the ground in what seemed like a routine play. He was slow to get up and limped off the field.

The Chiefs are winning and, if the Raiders can beat the Chargers, then KC can knock Denver out of the playoffs (which would be a nice consolation prize).

We've played 1 half without em

In order for us to trade em that means he’s franchised and the other team would be giving up a shit load, which anyone in their right mind would at the very least think about it. The man dropped a sure TD last week in a 3 point loss. He’s got his faults as well as the rest of the offense

Oh, the offense? *chuckle*

My wife got sick of me cussing about Muir, so she left the room to work on a sewing project. No lie.

I see Muir as either our o-line coach next year, only…or gone completely. He’s just not a playcaller. Some of his ideas are cool but there’s only six of them, and they all get used in the first quarter, and then we’re SOL for the rest of the game. Nine first downs in the 1st quarter today and like, four or five in the next three? Ugh.

I will say this for RAC: He managed a good game today, let the guys on the field make plays, and his team was motivated to win. He also had a pretty good scheme, as much as it drove me insane…give Denver all the rushing yards they want between the twenties, then tighten up in the red zone and force the Donks out of FG range.

I worry about his game management, but today I felt better about it.

Because Lilja's bad-ass blocks didn't spring a long run and a TD for DexMex in the first half?

He might have been shitacular the first half of the season (2/3’s?), but he definitely showed up and played today.

"I’ve got to play well enough," he said, "so we can make it to the playoffs."
--Kyle Orton

by go_saleaumua on Jan 1, 2012 6:26 PM CST up reply actions

That's a different argument.

You said he ignored the line for 3 years, when the evidence clearly shows that he didn’t.

Albert also had a very good year, by most accounts. And Lilja was probably their best OL last year, and I don’t think anyone could have predicted he wouldn’t have fallen so much so quickly. He did address the tackle position, but apparently Richardson was Haley’s boy.

by Tarkus on Jan 1, 2012 6:43 PM CST up reply actions

You're right, Tark. He didn't IGNORE it per se...

He just didn’t make it any better.

Weigmann and Lilja are not worth it. Apparently Gaither wasn’t either. Asamoah is good. Hudson? We don’t know yet. 1 out of 5 is not improvement.

Welcome to the real world, Alexandria. Future Chiefs' ____________!

by Falcon58 on Jan 1, 2012 6:24 PM CST up reply actions

right.

maybe ignore wasnt the right word. but he could have done more. his thinking that it would be fine was ridiculous. how many tackles drafted in 3 years? goose egg.

Just like novocaine. give it time; always works..
The greater the fall, the grander the ascention..

by be cee on Jan 1, 2012 6:26 PM CST up reply actions

Now that I agree with.

If Lilja is a top backup at G next year and we’ve got a living, breathing body at RT…we’re really in the hunt on offense.

"I’ve got to play well enough," he said, "so we can make it to the playoffs."

by go_saleaumua on Jan 1, 2012 6:27 PM CST up reply actions

i'm just extremely passionate

about this subject. saw it coming, couldnt believe nothing was really done to improve the line. i saw it all last year in short yardage, the home raiders game, the playoff game, and all year this year. it just donest make sense to me as a fan who knows a little bit about a team. blows my mind that a so called genius GM hasnt seen the same thing. maybe THIS offseason…

Just like novocaine. give it time; always works..

by be cee on Jan 1, 2012 6:31 PM CST up reply actions

Especially since he WAS an offensive lineman in HS...you think he'd pay attention to the line.

I don’t care whether Hudson plays LG or C next year (and he looked decent to good, as a rook, in his one start this year while Lilja was hurt). I just think he needs to be on the field…one or two good FA’s and rookies, and this line will be in much better shape.

If we ran more of a power zone rather than a pure zone, Richardson could take some snaps at guard and actually might be a somebody. He’s just a criminally bad pass protector and makes bad decisions at crucial times against faster players. But if we stay in a pure ZBS, I don’t see how he stays. Where does he fit, you know?

I’d be in love if Konz (Wisconsin center) came out in the draft this year, and we set Konz at C and left Hudson at LG. But who would fit at tackle? That’s my question….

"I’ve got to play well enough," he said, "so we can make it to the playoffs."

by go_saleaumua on Jan 1, 2012 6:38 PM CST up reply actions

i think we have to draft one.

and i thought so last draft, and the draft before that. it amazes me that he didnt even take a tackle in a later round. no tackles in 3 drafts. to think richardson could get it done is foolish. not to mention if he gets hurt, who comes in?

by be cee on Jan 1, 2012 6:41 PM CST up reply actions

Steve Maneri. How does that grab you? (Makes me a little nervous).

OT—do you think he’ll ever be worth a damn? He’s got a body that suggests it. You know, another ten or eleven pounds of strength…and if someone would LEAVE him at tackle.

Houston: played him at TE/OT, waived him
NE: played him at TE/OT, waived him
KC: played him at TE/OT….

Leave Stevie on the practice squad for a year and LEAVE him at tackle, right? Or just…get him a job selling insurance, lol.

Lilja was their best OL last year.

Gaither is playing very well for SD, but Haley refused to play him. Albert probably had his best year. More could be done, but that could be said for the team in general.
