The Last Time Tyler Palko Played With Steve Breaston
On second thought, maybe QB Matt Cassel missing Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills wouldn't be such a bad thing*.
If Cassel can't go -- and we do expect him to play, by the way -- we can only hope QB Tyler Palko throwing to WR Steve Breaston is as productive as it was the last time they played together.
I didn't know this but, as the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette notes, Palko was the quarterback and Breaston was a receiver in a Pennslyvania 2002 high school football all-star game.
Palko's numbers: 3-of-7 for 172 yards. All three completions went to Breaston which included 66-yard and 70-yard touchdown receptions. They were named to various player of the year lists for that season in Pennsylvania.
The story included this quote from Palko on Breaston:
"He's unbelievable. He's Superman. I don't know if everyone knows how great of an athlete he is. I think he proved it tonight."
Check out the original 2002 story in the Post-Gazette here.
(*Yes of course I would prefer Cassel play this game.)

I wonder if this was an underlying reason Palko was kept on the roster.
Interesting bit of information you know the coaches knew all about. I would have thought Palko would not have made the roster, so maybe that is why this thought popped up.

Probably doesn't hurt
But I would doubt it had any affect on the decision making. The game was nine years ago.
Haha!
02 doesn’t feel that long ago!

After re-reading the article
I failed to realize it was just for one game, an all-star game at that. So, I recognize the obscurity this event might have correlated to any decisions made by the coaching staff. Not reading close enough strikes again!

That game also creates winners
There is an espn E60 story on how every super bowl has had a player from the Big 33 game.
I never really thought
Palko was that bad to begin with. I think it’s more he has never had a chance in the NFL, he has always been behind big name QB’s. Back at Pitt he was pretty good, so good in fact that he started over Flacco and Flacco had to transfer.
If you can't get rid of the skeleton in your closet, you better teach it to dance.
Good news
And here I was, worried if Palko happened to play Sunday.
But since he threw a couple of TD’s to Breaston in a High School game nearly 10 years ago?
Whew! All better now.
HA! He may only complete 3 passes...
but every pass is a freakin home run – nearly 60 yds per pass play, ho ho holarious.
random pic from the big 33 game from 2002
thats breaston, palko, and luke palko, tylers younger brother who had an all american career at wr at st francis college in pa after turning down a walk on chance at penn state, he is now a scout for the arizona cardinals
