Hello everyone! I am going to try to give you a break down every week before each game starts. These will all be my opinion of course. I will go through each teams Rushing, Passing, Special Teams, and Coaching. I will also look at the X-Factor. I will try to be as unbiased as possible heading throughout the weeks.
This week we have the Bills who last year were quite a bit better than their record suggested. After all they gave us all that we could handle last year in overtime. I like where the Bills are headed and I'm not sure what is going to happen week one. A part of me wants to say we will dismantle the Bills on both sides of the ball. Another part of me wants to be realistic and look at what happened last year. Let's take a look at the match-up!
Chiefs QB: Matt Cassel
Bills QB: Ryan Fitzpatrick
Right away you notice that both QB's are considered average to above average in this league. I think Fitz might have more upside and untapped potential. However, Cassel is proven and a better leader. The Chiefs have Bowe, Baldwin (maybe week one) and Breaston as the main weapons in the passing game. The Bills do have some solid members in the secondary though. McGee is one of my favorite Bills players and for good reason. Byrd is also very impressive in the FS spot. Florence and Wilson can't be slept on either. Will Cassel be effective week one?
The Bills have Stevie Johnson, Donald Jones, and Roscoe Parrish as the main weapons. Flowers can match up with anyone. Carr can hold his own with the group as well. Our young safeties Berry and Lewis will patrol the middle of the field. I like our LB's in coverage better though.
When The Chiefs Pass: Tie
When The Bills Pass: Chiefs
Chiefs Running Backs: Jamaal Charles, Thomas Jones, Dexter McCluster
Bills Running Backs: Fred Jackson, C.J. Spiller, Johnny White
I think I see more big play ability out of both groups than anything. The Chiefs had the number one rushing attack last year. The Bills have a solid player in Jackson and Spiller is trying to develop in his own right. Charles seemed to have no trouble facing the Bills. However, the Bills added the rookie Marcell Dareus which has me worried. I also like Nick Barnett. I wonder if lights out will show up?
Jackson is a solid player but I'm not sure if the Bills will have much running success. Our secondary will hold their own so not much help will be given in coverage. We will make Fitzpatrick beat us. We can't sleep on Spiller though who can score from anywhere on the field.
When The Chiefs Run: Chiefs
When The Bills Run: Chiefs
Chiefs Special Teams: Ryan Succup, Dustin Colquitt, PR/KR Javier Arenas/Dexter McCluster
Bills Special Teams: Rian Lindell, Brian Moorman, PR/KR Roscoe Parrish/C.J. Spiller
The Chiefs have one of the better punters in the league. Succup doesn't get used much since Haley loves to go for it on 4th. However, he has had a couple solid years. The Chiefs return team is dynamic but they only had a few real big plays last year.
The Bills have the better kicker in Lindell. I like Spiller returning and Parrish isn't bad at all. I think both teams are about the same in special teams coverage.
Special Teams: Tie
Chiefs Coaches: Todd Haley, Bill Muir, Romeo Crennel
Bills Coaches: Chan Gailey, Curtis Modkins, George Edwards
The Chiefs have Todd Haley who has helped mastermind our turnaround and into the playoffs last year. Muir will be helping Haley construct an offensive plan. Romeo's credentials speak for themselves.
The Bills have Chan Gailey who very well could be a genius. I'm not sure if Gailey will be calling the shots but Modkins is listed as the offensive coordinator and running backs coach. Edwards I don't know too much about but he has a lot of talent on his side of the ball to work with.
Coaching: Chiefs
The Chiefs play at home which is a big advantage especially week one. The Chiefs however had a weird and at times just horrible preseason play. The Bills have some big time playmakers who can score from anywhere on the field. The Bills are also one of those teams who just keep grinding away.
X - Factor: Chiefs
I think that both defenses will be ahead of the the offenses at this point in the season. The Bills will have to beat the Chiefs using the pass. The Chiefs will have to win running the ball. The special teams should be about even. I think the Chiefs have better coaching mainly due to Crennel being in the mix. The game will also be at Arrowhead Stadium. Once again I want to say we will destroy the bills however it will most likely be a really close game--like last year.
Winner: Chiefs
*Disclaimer: I realize there are some roster moves that will most likely happen for both teams. I don't see anything really big except for depth at certain positions. My opinion probably wouldn't change anyways.
