Vikings Vs. Chiefs: Looking At The Other Defensive End
We've already talked about one offensive player on the Minnesota Vikings that the Kansas City Chiefs should keep an eye on so now it's time to turn to the other side of the ball.
When we say keep an eye on the Vikings defensive end, most are people thinking of DE Jared Allen. That would be correct -- the Chiefs need to stop him.
But the guy lining up opposite of him at defensive end for the Vikings is pretty good too -- DE Brian Robinson. We talked with SB Nation's Daily Norseman who tells us not to sleep on him.
I'm fairly certain you guys are familiar with Jared Allen, right? What you might not know is that Vikings have not one but two speed-rushers with crazy hair at the defensive end position. The Vikings weren't too concerned about letting Ray Edwards leave to Atlanta in the offseason because they knew that had a solid starter just waiting for his opportunity.
Brian Robison has taken advantage of being Allen's bookend, recording 2.5 sacks so far this year and creating a lot of pressure. If the Vikings want to record their first win on Sunday, Robison will need to have another big game. This holds especially true in the second half, where the pass rush and results have both gone south during the first three games.
Sorta like Tamba Hali took advantage of being with Jared Allen, and quickly saw his stats drop in the first year without him. (Don't worry, we later found out this Hali guy isn't too bad.)
Allen will be matched up with OT Brandon Albert, who says he's ready for the former Chief. The question is: Will the Chiefs be ready to stop the guy on the other side of the line?

Yes we can stop him.
But it will cost us ten yards every time we do.
What's the difference between jelly and jam?
Hey, maybe if he gets the calls, Hali gets the calls?
No, who are we kidding…
lol.
Hali just doesn’t look the same unless someone has an arm across his neck.

We might see a lot of the 6 offensive lineman sets Sunday
Although BRich hasn’t looked that bad in pass blocking this year, Gaither might over there helping him or Albert to slow the DE’s down.
Men succeed when they realize that their failures are the preparation for their victories.
I found it interesting...
in a post earlier this week (by Gretz I think) the comment was made that Hali was looking good and showing no ill effects of his ankle injury during pass rush drills against the tight ends. I’m hoping this was to prepare the TE’s to help the tackles come Sunday and not to be left one on one with the DE’s
Robison's more of a natural athlete than Hali
But I think he’d probably be a better rush linebacker than down end. He was a defensive tackle his freshman season of HS, then a linebacker the final three. Then he was a middle linebacker at first in college, then an outside linebacker, then a defensive end, and by his senior year he was even moving inside to tackle on passing downs.
Anyway, he has solid explosiveness and strength off the line, but he been sporadic in his production, also a little like Hali. He could give a lot of tackles fits any given week, whereas others seem to lock him down pretty effectively.

IMO if we're going to make it out with a W
McClain and the TE’s will have to pull extensive “help” duty. I want Le’ron running the rock too, but this could be his most important game to showcase some pass blocking.
As gracious hosts,
maybe we’ll be serving up Cassel sammiches…it would be the polite thing to do.
I hope Richardson isn't the cure for Robinson's sporadic play
BRich is pretty good at run blocking, especially in the zone scheme, but he is rather limited in the pass rush defense.
You can't spell "suck" without KSU
Sooo....
McClain backing up Albert and a TE over by Trich.
I wish Baldwin played so we could have a beast two wr set that cassel can’t throw to :(
I don't think we match up well with the Vikes
Matt won’t be continuing his second half serviceable quarterback performance as he will be rushed and panicked all day long.
The Vikes start quickly which means we will be playing form behind. Adrian Peterson will destroy our o-line.
Oh Well :) one step closer!
Come at me bro, and I will throw a 2 yard screen pass to my running back, come at me bro.
Excuse me *D line
