Moeaki to IR Could Help KC's Offense

Stay connected for news and updates

How could our offense possibly get better?! "Ryan in Nixa is an uninformed moron!" you're saying, "Ryan is already drunk" you scoff. Well hear (read?) me out.  Tony Moeaki was a good rookie tight end last year in the mold of Dallas Clark, Jimmy Graham and Jason Witten (I refuse to put him in Tony Gonzalez territory yet).  But one thing he is not and that's a great blocker; he's not bad, but he isn't Jason Dunn , nor did we need him to be.  Well where have the Chiefs struggled the most at the end of last year and in this pre-season?  I'll answer the rhetorical question after the jump.

With Tony Moeaki out we are left with no legitimate TE receiving targets thus we'll be forced to employ blocking tight ends which can help our embattled tackles and give our WR 2 and 3s more looks thus giving us a better "down the field" threat with guys like Breaston, Urban and hopefully, in the near future, Baldwin looks.  It means Charles and McCluster on the field at the same time is a legit option.  I'm not insinuating that suddenly we'll look like the quick strike "Greatest Show on Turf" Rams of the late 90s early 00s because I'm not sure that is in Cassel's skill-set, but I do think getting a guy like Breaston the ball more is a good thing if we want to chew up bigger chunks of yardage in the passing game.  Using three-WR sets can help in the middle of hte field and blocking TEs can help in short-yardage and goal-line sets.  We have a lot of weapons and I DID like Tony Mo, but let's not hit the panic button because there is a solid chance that the AZ Cardinals offense of Boldin and Fitzgerald is more likely to be realized.
