Our safety play is bottom of the league. We have 2 players that wouldn't even see the bench for a team that had any talent. Mcgraw was bad when he was young and that guy who's name starts with a P is the worst player to step on a NFL field I've ever seen. I understand there isn't many options out there at safety but I have some ideas after the jump.
My first idea is to sign my grandma to a one year deal I mean she has a walker and two bad knees but I think she could take Mcgraw in a foot race. But in all seriousness let's pursue somebody who has even a small chance of being solid. This is why in the off season I said hey sign Bob Sanders or take a look at a mid-level safety for a back up slash role player. Now we are scraping the bottom of the barrel to try and compete. Lewis is fine at one safety spot I mean not great but he will get the job done. Now having McSlow play basically on DJ's butt because he's to slow to get to the line if it's a run play is not gonna cut it.
I can't even bring my self to look up how to spell piscatelli or to capitalize his name because he is just so bad. I seriously would rather sign a CFL safety. The combo of him and Mcgraw is just like a competition for who can suck more and hurt the team worse. At least I could see why Washington was still on the team I mean he has a lot of talent and natural ability. But these 2 just make me feel like Pioli has been drinking the bong water or Kool Aide whatever you wanna call it.
What happen to the most talented team wins idea? I mean it works for NE and GB. We seem so set on trying to have a clean cut team like we are the Yankees or something too bad the Yankees have more talent then every other team. Can we please just for once cut a "good guy" like Mcgraw and sign a "bad guy" like Ray Lewis or Harrison? Talent wins games clean cut wins popularity contest.
Your Safeties are supposed to help support the run and pass generally and are your last line of defense. Problem is Mcgraw has proven he can't cover anyone currently in the NFL. So he must be good at run stopping right? Wrong he gets thrown aside like a used tissue. He doesn't lay the wood and he doesn't lockdown TE's so remind me why he is our safety?
Lewis on the other hand is pretty good at covering and helping CB's with deep throws. So he is a starting safety too me. So on to the Infamous worst safety in the league Piscawhatever. He is..... well aside from the fact that he never seems to do anything good on the field I don't know anything about him. He just seems like he is lost and just runs around. We would be better off putting Brown the rookie at SS and letting him cover a TE every play.
Basically my only solution is to be better prepared next time PIoli cause once the season starts it's hard to get depth and starters. Aside from signing any available safety left we are in this for the long haul.
