Week Four Match-Up: Minnesota Vikings
It is time for another weekly breakdown. This week we face the 0-3 Vikings. I would say it should be an easy win but nothing comes easy this year for the Chiefs. The Vikings these last three weeks seem to have the game won then all of a sudden the other teams have came back. They all have been close losses.
I'll look at the rushing, passing, special teams, coaching, and the x - factor. As always I will try to be as unbiased as possible with the outlook.
Chiefs QB: Matt Cassel
Vikings QB: Donovan McNabb
This really should be a pretty even match-up for both teams. The Vikings are ranked 29th in passing yards per game. The Chiefs are ranked 31st in passing yards per game. In 3 games the Vikings have given up nearly 900 yards through the air. The Chiefs in 3 games have given up 781 yards through the air. The Vikings' biggest weapon through the air is Percy Harvin who has 130 yards on 12 receptions. The Chiefs' biggest weapon through the air is Dwayne Bowe who has 185 yards and a touchdown on 11 receptions. We are not sure just how bad Flowers' injury is so that should help out the Vikings' passing game.
When The Chiefs Pass: Tie
When The Vikings Pass: Tie
Chiefs Running Backs: Thomas Jones, Dexter McCluster
Vikings Running Backs: Adrian Peterson, Toby Gerhart
If the Chiefs still had Charles in their backfield this match-up would be closer. The Vikings are ranked 3rd in the league in rushing yards per game. The Chiefs are ranked 9th in the league in rushing yards per game. The Vikings have only given up 202 rushing yards in 3 games. The Chiefs have given up 369 yards in 3 games. There is a clear winner in this match-up.
When The Chiefs Run: Vikings
When The Vikings Run: Vikings
Chiefs Special Teams: Ryan Succop, Dustin Colquitt, PR/KR Javier Arenas, Dexter McCluster
Vikings Special Teams: Ryan Longwell, Chris Kluwe, PR/KR Marcus Sherels, Lorenzo Booker
The kick return duties for the Vikings have been pretty even between Booker and Percy Harvin thus far. Harvin has broke one for a touchdown already. In 10 returns the Vikings have gained 307 yards in kick returns. The Vikings have been averaging 13.8 yards per punt returned. Longwell has made all his field goals so far whereas Succop is trying to lose his job. Kluwe has been booting them but Colquitt isn't too far behind. Arenas has averaged almost 18 yards per punt return. In 14 returns the Chiefs have gained 332 yards in kickoff returns. The Vikings coverage team is slightly better at this point.
Special Teams: Vikings
Chiefs Coaches: Todd Haley, Bill Muir, Romeo Crennel
Vikings Coaches: Leslie Frazier, Bill Musgrave, Fred Pagac
The Chiefs coaches seem to have been confused the first two weeks. The play calling did improve against the Chargers. The defense did really well making Rivers feel uncomfortable. The Vikings need to have better halftime adjustments. They also need to give Adrian Peterson the ball more. In headlines AP's dad said that Peterson has been frustrated by lack of carries. Peterson has only gotten the ball 58 times for a 5.1 yards per carry average. It's not like the Vikings have been trying to play catch up. They've had the lead at halftime. They are trying to have McNabb do too much. I think both staffs need to focus more.
Coaching: Tie
The Chiefs and Vikings are both hungry looking to gain their first win of the season. The Chiefs come back home after 2 straight road games. The Chiefs lost a heart breaker against the Chargers. They will want to take advantage of a team that is doing just as bad. The Vikings are bad at halftime adjustments and seem not to feed AP the ball enough.
X - Factor: Chiefs
I think that our home field advantage will be just enough to win the game. The Vikings are better at running the ball and special teams though. It wouldn't surprise me if the Vikings were leading at the half and then the Chiefs come back to win the game. That is of course if Cassel doesn't throw the ball directly to a Vikings player. This one will be close, kids.
Winner: Chiefs

in the FWIW department ...
Vikings fans are saying the exact same things about their team AND their QB as Chiefs fans … no offense, QB needs to sit in favor of the drafted rookie, poor overall perfomance by offense, etc etc ad nauseum …
hmmmmmmmmmmm, is it plagiarism by the Daily Norseman?
good stuff, 85 … should be interesting :-)

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
heya all Vikes fan here
It’s funny when another team says they are tied for how bad their coaches suck with us. I mean. Wow.
Couple of questions, how solid is your defensive line? I haven’t really ever followed the Chiefs and we play you guys like once every ten years or so it feels like. Our main problem (to me) is lack of O line play and McNabb being just accurate enough to kill his receivers. However, after a five sack game from us against the Lions I’m hoping we can introduce Cassel(or whoever you are playing) to the ground repeatedly..
Oh and don’t worry to much about the game no matter how bad it looks, 20 – 0 at half and still blew the game… (held the Lions to about 60 yards total offense to our 200 in the first half as well)…

Coaching this year for the Chiefs
in being prepared and play calling just sucks. Romeo is doing a good job though for our defense. It’s nice to see what our defense can do when they actually show up.
one out of three isn't bad
The only measure of true success in the NFL is the Vince Lombardi trophy. Anything less is a rationalization.
Maybe a conditioning problem?

I don't know i can't imagine it's that simple
but then I can’t really think of what else it could be. I think our offensive line is far below mediocre and that is effecting our entire offense. If you have a decent defensive line we’re going to run into serious problems.
On defense our secondary might be getting winded in the second half as we have so far held offenses to pretty low scores in the first half, but when you go against megatron sooner or later he’s going to get his.

Big Question, no ACL injuries
anyone thought of how the Chiefs would have done if Baldwin wasn’t injured and we had no ACL injures to Berry, Moeaki, Charles? would we still be 0-3 or 3-0?
Week 1: Bills are legit in my book thus far. i dont think Berry alone would have stopped Bills from scoring points, ontop of that not only once, but twice the Bills came back from a 20 point deficiet.
Week 2: Detroit Lions, no one question thier fire power they have shown to be able to score points regardless, would they have scored 40+ points if we had our offensive players chewing up some of the time and allow our defense to rest?, for the first quarter and bit the Chiefs were looking very well holding down the lions offense in check.
Week 3: Chargers this game i believe we could have won with our starters playing, same could be said for the Chargers if they had Gates healthy too, would it have come down to Cassel down by 3 with a minute left in the game?
there are literly tons of injuries around the league i doubt the fact the Chiefs have been hit the hardest with 3 key starters who were all on the rise and now being out for the season and 1 missing 3 games. but injuries happen and the rest of the league has seem to be able to move on in some way and atleast score some points.
so….
1/ would our offense have been that much better and would we have scored more than 10 points in the first 2 games?
2/ Would Cassel be a top 10 or 15 ranked QB at this point?
3/ would our offense been more productive at the same time allowing our defense to be more productive and rested, would they have still allowed 89 points in 2 games?
That'll do pig.
I think we would be 2-1
The Bills still creamed us with Charles. The lions would have some trouble early on if that was in the indicator of Charles playing.
what about kicking
would ryan succups 3 missed field goals have made a difference in momentum or even the out come of the game?
That'll do pig.
