Never Give Up...But....

First things first. I do not believe that this season is over after only two games. Granted, those first two games have been nasty terrible but last night I checked we still have 14 games to go. Please understand that I am not predicting another 10 win season, but just a few weeks ago many of us were talking about how winning 7-9 games would be improvement this season considering our schedule. So, all hope is not lost.

Second, and please understand that I am not in any way, shape or form questioning anybody fandom or loyalty to the Chiefs, but there is no way that I could ever get on board with a “Suck for Luck” campaign. I can’t tell you how much I want to see a homegrown, Chiefs drafted, franchise QB. I am not sure about this, and I don’t have the time to do the research right now, but we may be the only team to have won a Super Bowl to never have drafted a franchise QB. Dawson was drafted by Pittsburgh. Montana by San Francisco. Gannon, DeBerg, and Green all came to us from other teams. I am 48 years old and would love to see a KC drafted franchise QB…but there is no way that I could ever hope to see the Chiefs lose just to improve our draft status.

Hope you stay with me til after the jump!

Now to what I really want to talk about…how to improve what we already have. I know that my thoughts and ideas hold as much clout and a strainer holds water. I know that many of you will disagree with me, and that’s okay…you are allowed to be wrong once in a while! So, this is what I would do with our offense for next year.

Historically, KC has been known for strong, powerful O-Lines. I am not a huge fan of the Zone Blocking system and would love to see us move away from that style back to more of a hybrid power attack at the line. This would give greater protection for the QB and would still open holes for our RB’s. In fact, I think that this would improve our running game, especially our inside-the-tackles attack! I only listed the starters. Feel free to add depth.

WR

Baldwin – I have not given up hope on this guy being huge for us.

LT

Gaither – IF healthy, he has got to be the LT!

LG

Albert – IF Gaither is LT then moving Albert to LG gives us our next Rolf/Shields.

C

Hudson

RG

Asamoah – This guy is going to be a stud on our interior line for the next decade.

RT

??? – Although doing ok right now I am not sold on B-Rich.

TE

Moeaki – Proven player, just need to get a solid backup..

WR

Bowe

QB

Cassel – See my comments above about getting a franchise QB. Stanzi at least deserves a shot, in my opinion.

FB

McClain – This guy become our Jones+ (stud blocker + power RB)

RB

Charles – May his recovery be swift and complete!!!

Okay, this is where I will probably get into some trouble with some of you, but who cares right? I think that we have the makings of a top five Defense right now…IF we make some changes. Again, this happens after a complete off season of OTA and a regular preseason. We switch back to the 4-3 as our base defense. Check out what it could look like.

LDE Gilberry – This is most of his natural position.

LDT Powe

RDT Dorsey – He would kick major butt in this defense!

RDE Hali

LOLB Sheffield

MLB Belcher – I think that he would be great in this role!

ROLD Houston

LCB Flowers

RCB Carr

SS Berry – May his recovery be swift and complete.

FS Lewis

Can you imagine the pressure that we could turn loose on opposing teams with Powe and Dorsey collapsing the pocket and Gilberry, Hali, Houston and/or Sheffield rushing the QB!!!!! I also thing that this would be a strong team against the run.

Those are my thoughts. What do you like the most? What makes you think that I have spent one too many nights outside at 40 below!!!
