The race for the #1 pick
What do the Chiefs need to do to secure the pick? Here are the current contenders and their schedules.
Chiefs: 0-2
Panthers: 0-2
Colts: 0-2
Vikings: 0-2
Seahawks: 0-2
Dolphins: 0-2
Rams: 0-2
Let's look at some games these teams could win.
Chiefs: Minnesota, @Indianapolis, Denver.
We really need to drop one of the first two.
Panthers: Minnesota, Tennessee, @Indianapolis.
I feel pretty good about the Panthers winning all three of these games, plus pick up another one somewhere down the line.
Colts: KC, Jax, Carolina, Tennessee, @Jax.
It helps that Carolina and Indy play each other. We really, really need the Colts to beat us because their schedule is tough outside these games.
Vikings: @Carolina, Denver, KC.
Ouch. Ouuuuuuuch. Maybe the Vikings could beat the Cardinals or Redskins? That's the only hope I see here.
Seahawks: Cincy, @STL, STL, SF, @Arizona.
I feel good about the NFC West helping us out here.
Dolphins: Denver, KC, Buffalo, Oakland, @Buffalo.
Feel good about this. Miami is not horrible. They could also pick up a win against the Jets perhaps.
Rams: @Dal, @Ari, @Cle, Sea, Ari, @SF, @Sea, Cin, SF.
No way this team picks #1.
We really, really need to lose to Minnesota and Indy.

As much as I'd like Luck
I think Seattle are the team to beat lose to. They just look horrendous with Tervarus Jackson. But then again maybe Carroll will go with the USC kid
KC Draft prediction: No OT taken in first round
I don’t see the Chiefs winning any games any time soon. yes all these teams are 0-2 but people fail to remember that the chiefs can’t score and defense has not show any signs of getting the ball on turnovers for scores. we have a total of 10 points in 2 games, every other team that is 0-2 has the ability and has scored.
how do we win a game against a losing team when we cant score more than 7 points and our defense allows more than 30 a game? the math doesnt work. besides Seattle being shut out, i havent seen a team remotely as horrible as the Chiefs.
0-16 Chiefs, garanteed lock on Luck
Good news is Carolina and St Louis aren't going QB

Nor will Minnesota.

Minnesota would take Luck in a heartbeat.
I doubt any team (other than St Louis) would pass over the best prospect since Elway. Carolina might pass, but Ive heard arguments on ESPN radio that they would even take him and trade Newton. Newton does look great so far though.
Apparently the kid is just that good.

The Vikings are an old team anyway, and aren’t looking at a championship for another few years. Reloading some old players with new players and more picks in the draft would be beneficial as a whole.

Im hoping manning comes back, and the theory on his right from sports reporter saying that if Manning did come back he would have atleast 2 or more good years left in him and that Indy would not have to waste a first round pick on a QB.
If and When Manning does come back this season. I dont see Indy wasting a first round pick on Luck to have him ride the bench for 3 years. I am sure that any half decent QB could be tutored under Manning just like Brady was.
this is disheartening, that a Chiefs fan would even think in terms like this ...
We really, really need to lose to Minnesota and Indy.

Worse than 0-2
0-2 end of 2011 (home games), with a team that looked better with depth
0-4 preason
0-2 2011/2012 season with 3 key starters out 2 of which are probowlers and….. we’ve been out scored 89-10, name me one team that is 0-2 with a worse margin of defeat and turnovers.
What's disheartening
Is that Chief fans, after 40 years of NO FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK and 20 years of NO PLAYOFF WINS would not be willing to sacrifice a few meaningless games for a chance at BOTH.
So your saying bomb the season because we are 0-2

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
A meaningless game would be preseason
or games after being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Not week 3.
Nope.
But i’m not going to root for the Chiefs to lose in week 3.
I just don't see the point in a 3 win season
when we could get a player with the ability to turn around the franchise.
so you're saying the 20 NFL franchises
that don’t have a legitmate shot at a Super Bowl should try and lose every game to get a higher draft pick?
So your fine with mediocrity forever?
its been 20 years now. Time to make a change.
"You guys line up alphabetically by height."
--Bill Peterson
by rooting for the team to lose?
If we went 0-16 and got Luck you think we wouldn’t then be questioning the defense we currently have that contributed to that 0-16 record?
The whole team would have to continue to suck, not just the QB.
I would be happy as shit if we got Luck, but I’m not willing to root against the team starting game 3 to try and be in the race for him.
Where did I say I wanted mediocrity?
And how are you
SOOO sure that this “Luck” will be all that he is supposedly being made out to be? Not that QB’s have the highest bust % or anything.
yeah I could see how you would feel that way ups
But on the other hand, who really gives a crap. The season is scrapped. Its not immoral to hope we lose the rest of the games to get Luck. He feels that a quarterback would be the missin piece to get us to greatness. If we have to scrap 14 games along the way…ok As a 28 year loyal Chiefs fan I find it funny that we are this desperate to win.
We'd only have to scrap 3 or 4 games.
Without Charles and Berry, even an optimistic view might be a split with Den and maybe Oak, and 2 or 3 more wins out of Min, Ind, Mia, and maybe Chi… teams with good front sevens will continue to pressure Cassel, and TEs, RBs and slots will burn us in the middle. I’m pretty homeristic most of the time, but I have a hard time believing this can be turned around to better than 5 wins.

LOL @ this post
HAHAHA……….competition for winning the #1 overall draft pick. AAAAAAAAAAAhahahahah. Rec’d for hilarity….although, if we go 0-5, why not just throw the rest of the the games……that would be the funniest thing in NFL history. We must really suck to be thinking about this already….hahahahaha
Bfett, I actually agree with you to a point
but what if luck gets injured on his first snap. I wouldn’t have a problem if Haley came to the presser, and instead of taking blame, said "screw it, we’re gonna throw the next 14 weeks and snatch Luck from Stanford. I would respect it, and probably have fun watching the players throw the game.
But, I just think there are too many what it factors. I won’t give you crap about this post though, as I 70-80% agree. REc’d for originality and you sense of humor was apparent. Awesome.
Mocking the Draft is doing a weekly feature
Twelve NFL teams have been identified as contenders to select Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck first overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. We’re only two weeks into the season, but the Suck for Luck campaign is in full swing with a few teams clearly ahead.
Leaders (not legends) in the clubhouse at 0-2:
Indianapolis Colts
Kansas City Chiefs
Miami Dolphins
Seattle Seahawks
It’s clear that Indianapolis, Kansas City and Seattle are the current frontrunners for Luck, as pointed out by David Fucillo of SB Nation Bay Area. The Colts and Chiefs have both been marred by injury and the Seahawks have been marred by Tarvaris Jackson. Many are discounting the Miami Dolphins, however. Miami has to play the New York Jets and the suddenly dangerous Buffalo Bills twice each and New England on the road. Miami also gets San Diego on the road in two weeks. A Week 9 match-up with the Chiefs could be especially meaningful. Right now, this is the falling four and each would be better off with Luck – though Indianapolis more down the road.
Middling question marks of mediocrity at 1-1:
Cincinnati Bengals
Cleveland Browns
Dallas Cowboys
Denver Broncos
Oakland Raiders
San Francisco 49ers
For good or bad, they’re at 2-0:
Buffalo Bills
Washington Redskins

Its going to be even more funny
when there are like 4 0-16 teams waiting on draft day – One heckuva tie breaker there!
I'm very disheartened by this (yet optimistic about the draft).
The Chiefs are really the only team on this list that I think could go 0-16.
Panthers: Newton and Co. have a chance to enter the win column against the Jags this week. They also have a few they can take down the road. As a whole, the team looks better (from SC, so I get to watch a lot of Panthers).
Colts: Once Peyton comes back (and he will at some point) this team starts winning again. They miss the playoffs, but they grab some wins.
Vikings: Adrian Peterson will drive them to a couple of victories. Too many impact players capable of making big plays for them to not win a few.
Seahawks: They play in the NFC Worst, so they’re bound to win a couple.
Dolphins: Better team than their record shows. They lost to the Patriots and Texans who are both good teams.
Rams: Everything I said about the Seahawks, except the Rams are a better team.
Now, I do think the Chiefs could win against the Colts and Vikes, but those games are closer to toss ups than anything else. But at this point, I’m not worried about it. We lost our 2 best players, and an important starter for the season. That doesn’t give me much hope. It’s not time to throw in the towel yet, but we should probably tell some of these younger guys to get ready to see some significant playing time. Get some experience going for the guys we want to bring back next year, so this team is right back on track.

My clammoring is because Luck is the first "sure thing" QB coming out since Carson Palmer.
There have been a few #1 overall QBs drafted since Palmer, but none of them have had the “sure thing” tag with them. A lot of times, a QB goes #1 overall because it’s the most important position. This time, there is a good chance the player will be a consensus #1 overall pick. That’s usually a pretty good sign.

no, im getting away from my main issue
im just annoyed at seeing things like “sure thing” being attributed to a guy still in college. luck is a fine prospect, but i wish people would tone down the rhetoric behind saying that.
Well he's as sure of a thing as you can get at this point
Can make all the throws, makes those around him better, is a leader, great footwork, mechanics, can avoid the rush, has it all upstairs and has great pocket awareness.

That's why I used quotation marks.
To note that those were not my words. Also, there is no denying that the Bengals got better with him at the helm, and, as ChiefWarPaint pointed out, his career didn’t level off until he got hurt.
The “sure thing” comes from the belief that barring a major outside factor (like an injury) the guy is considered a top player that will have will have a successful career. The “experts” all agree that the player is the absolute best at what he does and is worthy of the #1 overall pick. It’s a pretty rare thing.

If Palmer didn't have a tude, and the Black Stripes owner ...
wasn’t an unreasonable egomaniac, I’d pull the trigger for a GOOD trade for Palmer still in a heartbeat. He can execute this offense even with bum knees. Hella yeah! Give him Bowe(if he starts putting Super Glue on his hands), Breaston, Baldwin(if he “gets it” at all this season), and maybe he would check-down to Dex(?) too, with a good running game to take the heat off him, and the OL still holding up(a huge if, imo), he’d still be a passing fool in this O. He’d say eff’em to Muir and Haley and call his own plays. Yeah, baby! Hey, its a nice fantasy! Fantasies are all I got now. :+(

The funny thing is
Luck is only a Red shirt Jr. Who is to say he comes out at all this year….
I enjoyed this
it’s like a reverse playoff picture.
I’ve been an ardent Cassel defender. Two really good seasons, one bad season on a really bad team, but I can’t defend whats going on now. If only Josh McDaniels were calling the plays, it might be so much different.
My problem is this
If the Chiefs draft 1st overall by being the worst team in the NFL, we lose a lot. Todd Haley is most likely done. Matt Cassel won’t get the luxury of holding a clip board. He’s done. Le’Ron McClain sure as heck didn’t sign up for this, so I wouldn’t expect him to stay. And importantly, the Chiefs identity as a running team is basically on the line. I, for one, don’t watch a Chiefs to see the QB throw 45 passes for 500 yards.
Now if we miraculously snag Marty Schottenheimer and Andrew Luck and become the vastly younger version of the early 90s Chiefs, then yeah sure. Sign me up.
You are tied to a Chiefs identity and not their winning?
Sorry, times have changed. Running and pounding the football isn’t enough to win anymore. We need a QB that CAN throw 45 times for 500 yards to exploit what defenses give us. It’s much easier to have a run game when there is the threat to be able to air it out when the defenses stack the box. A legitimate QB would give our offense balance that would make it very scary.

Not sure if you've watched Stanford play
Stanford’s offense is not some spread 5-wideout system. It’s a"pro-style," run-first offense. Establish the run to set up the pass. Luck doesn’t get the gaudy numbers that a spread QB gets, and I think that’s part if what excites pro scouts. He reads defenses, audibles at the line, goes through multiple progressions, and places the ball with touch and accuracy.
by MaxSFBay on Sep 23, 2011 4:41 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
I honestly
don’t want us to throw games and lose, if we have the #1 pick we need to take Luck, no questions asked, and if we don’t have the #1 pick we need to trade whatever we have to in order to get Luck. This franchise with peyton manning or Tom Brady would be unstoppable! If Luck really pans out to be the next “great” or even better for that matter then we are set for a long time, if not, then well us as Chiefs fans are used to drafting busts and having our hearts broken so no harm no foul.
What is "Luck" really?
Haley is everything that is bad about the Chiefs…You can’t have an EGO that is backed by NOTHING and expect to “get over” in KC…These fans know what a real coach/team is supposed to look like and after 2 years it’s pretty clear from here…

Haley has to go
he’s a coordinator not a head coach…why must we be force fed any longer
The Colts are the worst team in NFL without Peyton Manning. The earliest he could come back would be 3 months. By that time they have no shot at playoffs. They will tell him to be ready for next year. The number 1 pick may be decided by the K.C. vs. Indy game in a couple of weeks. I just think that Seattle will win at least 4 games because of the division they are in.
Manning shows what a qb can do for a team, and just how serious it is to not have one
Imagine what the Chiefs may look like with a franchise qb….This Year!
It’s official. I am on the Luck train as well.
I like your gifs dude, but shit is ridiculous and makes us a as a fan base look horrible
Embarrassing and I am absolutely disgusted with our fans right now.
Nicknames I have coined:
Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'
Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'

Whatever dude,
I don’t care about another K.C. fan’s opinion as far as how it reflects on the rest of us. Especially when it’s just something like wanting a good QB.
Many people on here have stated that they would take multiple bad seasons to acquire 1 SB. We may be doing the opposite giving one bad year for multiple superbowls.
um
