Kansas City Chiefs Start Trimming Down Roster To Meet NFL Cut Day Deadline
The Kansas City Chiefs have to trim their roster by 27 players by Saturday afternoon at 6 p.m. ET. That means a lot of tough decisions are being made today and tomorrow by the Chiefs' brass.
We have word that two of those decisions may have already been made. Via their respective Twitter accounts, it appears that CB Reshard Langford and LB Micah Johnson have both been casualties of the roster trim down.
Langford only became a Kansas City Chief in December 2009, although it seems like longer for some reason. He played six games last year, mostly on special teams. On an eyeball level, Langford appeared to make plays on special teams and his release comes as somewhat of a surprise to the Chiefs' fanbase. However, Langford was existing on that very thin plane of special teams/practice standout. It wasn't long before the Chiefs felt like they had seen enough in Langford and decided to give another player a chance.
There's not much you can say about LB Micah Johnson. The Chiefs' signed him in December 2010 and he didn't play.
Langford tweeted out not too long ago:
So it's been fun KC. Maybe I'll see you on the other sideline in time. Thanks for taking me in. Much love to the fans Thanks for the support
And Johnson tweeted this out about 5 p.m. ET today:
Jus got released..no love lost no tears shed!! On to the next one..keep ya posted..thanks for the support!!
It's not official but I'm pretty sure Langford and Johnson are gone. That means the Chiefs have 25 more roster cuts to make.
H/T bh13 for the Johnson tweet

Does anyone else think that
Jackie Battle’s play is declining?
by ilamuku on Sep 2, 2011 7:58 PM CDT reply actions 1 recs
Could be because he's been playing behind the 2nd and 3rd sting OLine guys
The OLine looks like it sure misses Brian Waters. The Line play IMO looks to be the biggest in transition from ‘10-’11.
I have a feeling that Battle going to be kept on roster, unless they bring in another RB. Notice they didn’t draft or sign another RB? We’ll keep 3RB’s on roster with McCluster being the X factor in WR and RB.

Copper looks to be the next player ont he bubble
I think the battle will be between Tucker and Colbert for the 5th WR slot.

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
Jackie has always saved his best for the preseason.
And you’re right, he hasn’t really been up to par with his previous preseasons. That’s all based off of my own judgement though. Statistically I could be wrong

if jackie battle makes this team, I would be shocked, prob more shocked than any of the cuts that will take place

I don't understand this
It’s all around Arrowhead Pride. We really expect the Chiefs to keep 2 RBs (and LeRon McClain, granted)? I know we could pick another up, but he’s as good as any 3rd string RB. I don’t get it.
I'm not Tom Brady. I'm not who Gerald McCoy and the Bucs needed to see.
+1
He looks really raw both in coverage and in tackling.

I do
He’s been a pleasant surprise to me. Maybe a guy that could fill that Shaun Smith role this year, backing up DE and NT.
That's what i was thinking too.
He’s been pretty under the radar, for the most part, but he’s quietly been performing.

Yeah they seem to like him in the pass sub package
I really don’t get it. Seems like playing in the middle in those sub packages is something someone else could just as easily do.

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
Disk replacement is serious crap
I still don’t want to think of that operating table…
Two different surgeons and took 3+ hours yesterday.
The little gal was standing up already today and took two walks (short ones)
oh my, that's EXCELLENT
for that kind of surgery, even standing and walking at all is good, especially in one day’s time
good to hear, Sir!

nice post series you got going on!
Sherril Headrick and Grigsby would be great and maybe a post about the WAR between the leagues in signing talent.
just some things I would be interested in.
Maybe a post on the one Chief that has his number retired and is not in the HOF
you expect me to do RESEARCH and WORK?!?

yes, this year's S.smith in terms of an old crennel guy coming home to his coach. I dont expect the impact smith had, but gordon has a real shot

I don't really care who they cut
The only thing I care about right now is A) getting Gaither on the line B) Getting Houston in over Stude and C) Baldwin getting healthy.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
and anyone who disagrees with C ... you break their thumbs, right? ;-)

totally agree!

I'm not saying these two were good, but they were better than the first two cuts good, no?
I just can’t believe there are guys with absolutely no chance of surviving that are getting cut after both guys…..
Were these really the two easiest cuts?
