Stay Classy Kansas City

As we're all too painfully aware, the Chiefs were handed a brutal loss over the weekend by an up and coming Detroit Lions team.  It wasn't pretty.  In fact, it was downright ugly, and the final score or 48-3 was perhaps the least of it all when you consider that the Chiefs also lost Jamaal Charles for the season with an ACL tear.

So what can one do?  What can one say?  Not much, as no amount of hand-wringing or finger-pointing will ever change the outcome.  What one CAN do, however, is admit that our Cheifs aren't as good as we'd like them to be and move on with our heads held high, knowing that it can only get better.  I mean, it has to, right?

And with that duly acknowledged, we say "Congratulations, Lions" and move on with humility and grace and class.  And that leads to this ... some thoughts and words of wisdom from Lions fans themselves.  Fans of a team that not too long ago suffered through an agonizing 0-16 season.  Fans who've held their heads high and supported their team through some bad time, indeed, through the worst season any fan could imagine.  If they can do it, we can do it ... however bad it gets, however dark at the end of the tunnel, a few words of wisdom to remember from some very classy people ...

Star-divide

Great guys - Thank you Chiefs fans We appreciate talking football, without all the smack talking and anger. At least you know that with our past, we know how you are feeling (both about losing and about losing players to injury). Realize that our happiness is not at your expense, but at finally having a good team after many years of pain. You guys have been great this week. Lions-fan-SLC

Everyone at Arrowhead Pride Are classy guys who know their football. There was no bashing, no bias. All in all one of the better communities at SBNation. Thanks for the great insight guys, good luck with the rest of the season detpistons3

Most definitely the classiest, knowledgable fans I've had the pleasure of talking with. Good luck with your season, I hope it turns around somehow. Bighaircut

oh upamtn, I forgot to mention Despite how elated I am over this victory, and I am elated. If I could have a wish to make Charles not have been injured but the cost was the game result was reversed in the score? I’d make that trade off without a thought. I’m devistated for Jamaal. Of course my sorrow is with the team and the fans :( Ee Oulo

First class man What can I say I’m happy for my team but I never like to see players get hurt. On my fantasy team or not Jammal is an elite player. Fingers are crossed for him. I already heard the dreaded ACL today. Good luck gong forward guys I hate the injurys its part of the game and as Lions fans well all know about those dreaded things. Hope you guys can get something going this year. Thanks for being a class act and respectful the entire week. Till we meet again KC….till we meet again. The Profiler

Classy By far you and the rest of AP have been classy to the core. Speaking of class, this is when your chiefs will really show it. Charles, Berry and Moekaki all out with injuries is devastating and I feel for you. However, without adversity we can never fully appreciate victory. Its right now when you find what your team and your fans are made of. If the chiefs are half as classy as the people I enjoyed chatting with at AP this week, they will find a way to overcome and the victories will be even sweeter. I dont often root for non-Lions teams, but Ill be watching the Chiefs this season and Cheering my ass off. Good luck Chiefs. Leonuro

Big Chief ... I didn't say or even impy that anyone should be HAPPY with the losses or all puffed up proud of the way the team has played ... it's been pathetic and I'll be the first to admit that

and guess what, I’d like the Chiefs to win too … I know you might not believe that, but it’s true, that’s also part of being a fan (well, except those who want the team to lose because they’re Suckers for The College QB Who Shall Not Be Named, but that’s another story and we won’t go there right now)

however, if all you have on your agenda is “championship” and you have no place for “sportsmanship” then perhaps you should reconsider what’s really important in your life … look at the very word, sportsmanship … see that first part? s-p-o-r-t-s … yeah, like football is a sport … you can’t have one without the other if you’re doing it right

watch the next game carefully, especially at the end: the players shake ands with each other … it happens in football, baseball, basketball, tennis, volleyball and tiddlywinks … it’s called being human, Big Chief

just something to consider

Please don't bring

the you need to look at yourself in the mirror argument into this. You miss the point completely. Am I supposed to be pleased with my team because they shook hands at the end of a game or saved a puppy dog? I think you want your team to win, but I also think you will accept mediocrity. I am done accepting it. We are 30 million under the cap. Have a Terrible Dline, A mediocre at best Oline, Our secondary can’t cover and worst of all we have A QB who Absolutly shatters under pressure, cant look of his first read, has a noodle for an arm and cant throw it accuratly past 5 or 7 yards. Wanting to win and doing the right things too win are different. They should be “sporting” because they get paid 30 million dollars to do so. I don’t pay for sportsmanship. I pay for a competative football team. Without a QB we will be just mediocre to terrible and Nothing more.

There's a certain degree of class one must have to have remained a Lions or, to a lesser extent, Bills fan all this time

QB Garrett Gilbert was the Beavis & Butthead episode of the 2010 college football season. Even when things were going well there was always one bad decision that meant he wasn’t going to score.

I would go nuts on AP if it wasn’t for you putting my head back on every week, haha :)

I never want to lose my pride.

All those Chief “fans” out there rooting to lose all our games so we get the # 1 pick are not Chief fans. True fans never root for their teams to lose, true fans never root for their teams starting QB to get hurt. That second is truly sick and disgusting and I’ve lost a lot of faith in some AP’ers because of it.

Thanks Ups for helping to remind us of who we are and who we are supposed to be.

Rec'd and very classy Ups!

I especially like the comments you’ve included from the Lions fans since I wasn’t able to keep up in AP while out of town from the 10th thru late Sat and only able to catch the 4th quarter of yesterday’s game.

I followed the score updates on my BB app and then was finally able to start catching up on AP last night. As a lifelong Chiefs fan who’s suffered through a lot of stinky years, I’m amazed at the volume of people (including sportscasters & wannabe s-c’s) screaming off with their heads after 2 ugly losses. I for one remember Lamar’s knee-jerk firing of Marv Levy after a bad season in a strike-shortened year…and Marv then taking the Bills to the big one 4 times after that.

We all knew & talked a lot about it going into this season that this is a young Chiefs team still in a rebuilding phase that has at least another year or two before they’ll be actual contenders. Add to that a lockout situation that’s new to everyone (and its affects for each team won’t be clear until the end of the season) and a much tougher schedule, and this start is not a surprise.

Seriously, I tend to think this is probably the best thing that could’ve happened to this team at this point. It’s sure to puncture any egos that puffed up after last year and will definitely show who’s willing to step up and not. How one reacts to defeat is much more important than how they respond to success. This will separate the chaff and determine who on this team has the character and drive to step up to the challenge with discipline, leadership and true team effort.

I'm dressin my voodoo doll in stripes every season...

welcome home, girl ... sorry you had to come back to THAT game, but hey ... just as your name says: win or lose ... major props! :-)

that Levy firing was partly because Marv openly sided with the players during the strike (or so I heard) … shame that he paid for it with his job, but always admired what he did with the Bills

hang in there … we know it’s not always a smooth as silk ride, we’ll get there in time

Great Post Ups.

The lions fan was correct. This is as much a test of the fans as it is a test of the team. One good thing that comes from this is that it will weed out the real fans from the fair weather fans. I have been through this before. I have been a Spurs fan since I was old enough to watch. We went through some hard times for years before we were finally “good”. I am in the same situation with the Chiefs, and I expect the same results.

I haven’t been around AP almost at all since I left for KC before the season opener. Way too busy running around for different things, and then after the Bills game I knew I wasn’t going to be able to stand reading the freak-outs, I don’t deal well with the “sky is falling” types or those that tend to pick up on negative points and make them the core of everything. It was really nice to see this post, even if it nearly got lost in the midst of all the rest. You should always strive to be a "classy" person

That said, I’m not sure what this post is expecting from the fans.

Are you asking us to accept losing, or are you simply imploring us to be nice to each other? I would suggest many people on this blog are in desperate need of that regardless of how this team performs. Indeed it would be much better if this post was about the correct way to conduct yourself period.

To the point, if you are suggesting the fans should embrace the franchise at this particular moment, I will argue that has nothing to do with class. The relationship between fan and team cannot be a one-way street; we expect something in return.

It would take far too long, and ultimately accomplish nothing, to try to discuss what any given fan wants in return. I feel it is reasonable to say most fans simply want a competitive team, and that is not asking too much. Therein the problem lies.

This season we are not competitive – exactly the opposite. Well at least we have specific players we can follow to still make it interesting – but they are dropping like flies. What’s left? Staying classy?

You should stay classy in all aspects of your life, but conversations of the Chiefs this year should yield nothing short of "disappointing" and "unacceptable." It has nothing to do with class.

However, it has everything to do with $27 parking. Any ticket priced over $50. Not seeing good, competitive football from your favorite team (win/loss be damned). Wondering what in the hell this team has to do to get a break. And finally, asking why the fans should accept what we’ve been through this decade. You list pride above, and I’d argue this is exactly why you do not just accept things like this and move on.

I, for one, will not simply sit here and be a pushover in the name of "class."

I’ll still wear my Chiefs gear everywhere I go. I’ll still claim them as my team.

I’ll also call them out when they need to be, and I’ll expect something in return for my loyalty and my support – it’s a two-way street.

By all means stay classy – why wouldn’t you – but don’t confuse that with blind homerism, because they are not the same thing.

It is true things can get better, even this season, but in the meantime you should be outraged and angry over what you have witnessed since pre-season.

Ask yourself how classy it is that this organization hasn’t won a playoff game since Montana, has never produced a franchise quarterback, and has produced some of the teams its fielded over the past decade.

Ask yourself how classy it is that a 10-6 team ruins the entire football season (one that almost didn’t even exist no less) for their fans because they can’t even be competitive.

What did we get in return? Price increases? What exactly?

Be a good person. Be classy in your approach to people. However, there IS a time for every purpose under heaven. Treat people with respect, no question, but call out your team with frustration, emotional outbursts, etc when they deserve it (unless your ticket was free or you get free cable/satellite I guess – or you just enjoy losing).

Otherwise things don’t change and you risk being nothing more than a classy loser. No thanks.

solid points...........

However I think you,re missing the point Mr. Ups was IMO trying to convey. He was really just pointing out, on this post, how other fan sites can engage in friendly banter about our teams and matchups. Without all the trash talk and meanspiritedness (if that’s even a word) :)

Also it’s not a sky is falling post. This is going to sound scary and it freaking me out a bit, but Ups and I think a lot alike. ; )

Keep your chins up KC and step away from the ledge.

I did not see anywhere in ups post

where anyone was asked to condone anything this organization has done, nor was anyone asked to accept losing & happily sit along through it.

What I DID read throughout the post was a reminder, to not let getting our tails kicked, allow us to forget our intelligent debate / discourse, or our respect for ourselves and others.

Sometimes suffering through humiliation at the hands of your own team can derail your classic way of thinking and debate; I saw this as a reminder to keep your head up & on straight.

Did NOT read this as a plea for anyone to condone the organization’s decisions or losing.

Just the way I read it though…

I’m glad you took the time to clarify your point

However I’m having a hard time seeing where anyone was able to identify the original intention you claim.

You gave examples of fans from another team "being classy" in the wake of not only winning, but literally destroying the other team. This in no way demonstrates what you claim your intentions were. Now if you were to give examples of fans "taking the high road" after watching their team destroyed, what you claim you’re doing would start to show itself. It doesn’t.

In fact two quotes you chose serve to illustrate precisely what I’m taking issue with – hanging in there and supporting the team through such difficult times. Indeed, the few words of your own you chose to include say literally nothing about being nice to each other, trash talk, meanspiritedness, intelligent debate/discourse nor respect for ourselves and others.

Instead your words are of the "rah rah" and "keep your head up" variety, backed with examples of the same ilk. Now within the quotes you chose, several of them do acknowledge their appreciation of our classy fans, but all this ultimately does is serve to illustrate we are already indeed "staying classy," so my original question of what this post is expecting from the fans is warranted.

I then look at your post history and I see this same sort of "rah rah" attitude expressed there, and I see further evidence of it within the replies to this very thread (where you happily receive praise for staying positive). Hold on, is this post about staying classy or staying positive? Is it both? If both I agree with the former and vehemently disagree with the latter.

There is nothing positive about this season, and you saying differently doesn’t suddenly make it so. Likewise being a "negative nancy" doesn’t mean everyone should agree with my feelings, but conveying the message I am somehow classless because I remain negative about the situation is ridiculous and asinine.

I stand by my original reply. Show me one place where your own words address interaction with other people. Show me a single example of someone conducting themselves with class after an utter thrashing (I’ll assume the Lion’s fans appreciation of our fans is what you were going for, but that’s not the same). Show me anywhere above an example of a Chiefs fan demonstrating lack of class. You can’t because it isn’t there.

What is there, again, is this mantra of "stay positive in the face of suck." That has nothing to do with class, and it is my strong opinion we should be doing exactly the opposite as fans. Notice I understand this is my own opinion.

The only place I find any evidence of this “class” is in the quotes where these fans give kudos for being so. If this is the crux of the thread, you were better served to take the angle of praising Chiefs fans for BEING classy, because that is what your quotes support. Instead you chose to say “stay classy,” as if somehow we weren’t already, and backed this sentiment with a “stay positive or you have no class” attitude.

Also notice the people agreeing with you, by and large, are agreeing to stay positive. That’s fine. I’m happy all of you agree. However, do not treat me as if I suffer from a lack of reading comprehension and attempt to explain how I missed the point. No offense to those who tried, but you need to understand you’re simply agreeing to stay positive, not classy – they aren’t the same thing. There is simply no evidence to support what you claim to have read in this post. Again, if it read “Here are some examples of what we want fans from other teams to say about us when they kick our ass” then the point would have been made. It wasn’t.

It is a thinly veiled plea to stay positive in the guise of staying "classy."

I call foul sir. I treat everyone with respect until they give me a reason not to. That said, there is absolutely nothing positive about this season thus far, and fans should be absolutely outraged. If you see it differently, fine. You need to just say that.

Don’t ask me to see what isn’t there, both in this post and with this team so far.

In wondrous beauty, once again, shall the golden tables stand mid the grass, which the gods had owned in the days of old.

Rags, you make some excellent points here ...

my intent (and apologies if it wasn’t as clear as it should have been) was indeed to “take the high road” … not only last week but the week before I saw far too many here on AP dismissing the Bills and Lions as being very beatable … in essence, our own form of “trash talk”

that said, as I;ve mentioned to others in theis thread: I’ve never said or implied that anyone should be “happy” with the Cheifs play this year

I really appreciate your time sir

I’m glad you took the time to have this conversation with me. You truly are classy in that sense, and I also appreciate that you remain positive in the face of adverse circumstances. I’m simply not like that.

Further, I’m extremely upset at this organization at the moment. Therefore even the idea of giving them a semblance of a pass is not going to happen. The fans should be up in arms over what we’ve witnessed since preseason.

I will admit my own bias undoubtedly clouded how I read this post and what I took from it. I’m simply well past any “rah rah team” perspective, and I refuse to called classless for my feelings.

If this was never your intention I apologize for taking it so. Like in politics, I don’t care for the “spinning” of issues. I’m a Missouri farm boy and I know how to use the brain I was born with.

We could actually have one of those 65 Republican/Tea Party lunatics, that were on stage the other night, with a comb- ined IQ 3 points less than a ferrett, who refused to say that they wouldn’t just let the uninsured die (that would piss off the Tea Party if they were to support not allowing people to die, who may take some money from our Federal Government)., and who would rather insure that all of the millionaires and billionairres can hide their money overseas and export jobs, than to even think of helping the almost extinct middle class, and the small businresses who still employ the vast majority of Americans, and also want to eliminate a program that is self -supporting, and doesn’t cost the Government a dime (Social Security). I could go on and on, but Iguess in the scheme of things, that is still more important than the Kansas City Chief’s record, especially for me, as if one of them win, I will move and support the Toronto Argonauts.

Not sure if I agree totally with Detroit fans being classy...

Take a look at the SBNation Detroit site, on Mayhew rejecting Pioli’s handshake after the game—most likely because Pioli filed those tampering charges, which were substantiated. Not a single comment on that thread was positive or classy—most of them were gloating and congratulating the Lions for running up the score. So…

by Tortfeasor58 on Sep 20, 2011 2:28 PM CDT reply actions

Mayhew isn't "the fans" any more than Pioli is "a fan" ...

all I know for sure is that in dealings with those fans myself, here on Arrowhead Pride or over on Pride of Detroit, they were nothing but respectful, humble and totally classy … sorry your experience has been less than that

I wanna say a couple things to respond to that.

1) SBNation Detroit isn’t where the Lions fans hang out, Pride of Detroit is! We accept no responsibility for whatever red wing/tigers/pistons/bandwagon fans make an ass out of themselves over there.

2) Let’s be real about the tampering charges. They were substantiated in the sense that we lost the appeal, but how often has anyone won an appeal against the NFL? Players get fined for legal hits and the appeals process is routinely shown to be a joke. The Lions office has maintained that there was no tampering and neither KC nor the League has shown what the tampering was. I believe my front office when they say they didn’t do anything, and you believe your front office when they say we did — it’s called being supportive of the organization, and it has nothing to do with how classy you are.

3) I can’t comment on the “gloating” fact, because I don’t know what you consider to be gloating (celebration over a win?). That said, I have a hard time buying anyone was “congratulating” us for running up the score. More than likely, we were defending the accusations that the score was being run up. What you have us do, run the ball on third and long and punt? We kept drives moving and kept the clock running, it’s your team’s responsibility to stop it, this isn’t high school football.

Please step away from the ledge AP!

Once again, coming from a NY guy, you might not want to hear my view and that’s fine, I can handle it. I’m a big boy with pretty thick skin, NY can do that to you. Especially the TAXES!!! Since I’m new to The Chief fandom, I never mean any disrespect to any ono here at AP, I have the utmost respect for ALL who roam and troll this site. Here we go, I’ll give you a view from my favorite sport hockey. Once again I apologize…. move on if you don’t like hockey or me using it as a metaphor. I am a life long, diehard NY Ranger fan. Have been since I can remember and I’ve been remembering things for about 40 years now. Some years I remember more than others. FYI the 80s are a blur, for reasons that I won’t get into, for it could get me in trouble if my kids read this, ; ) So most casual sports fans would remember that, The Rangers were in a 54 year Championship drought. (So I’ve been on that ledge many times my friends.) My drought was the 70s, 80s and then 1994 comes around. With the arrival of Mark Messier (Pioli) and all his leadership and championship experience. He became the Messiah and brought The Rangers and I a Stanley Cup!!! It was the one of the best rides of my life. The playoffs were exciting and the exhilaration of it all was unbelievable….THEN…..what do you do next??? After years of saying “next year” we finally had the Cup. Let me tell you folks it was a HUGE downer. The thrill of the chase was gone, as the sign at the Garden read,“Now I can die happy.” AP…its the thrill of the chase not The Championship. Don’t you remember High School? Passing notes to the girl you liked. Asking a friend of yours or hers to see if she liked you. Or finally getting the guts to ask her yourself. Good GOD AP that IS the thrill!!! Please take heart in that fact. Enjoy the ride, have fun. The Championship will come. Believe me The Chiefs are on the rise and heading to the promised land. Just don’t be in a rush, enjoy the thrill of the chase. I am. Cheers, my Brothers and Sisters………….

Being Postive =/= Being Classy

I know that full well

and sadly there’s not much to be positive about … that said, we can (and should) remain classy in our dealings with each other and fans of other teams (therein lies the point of the post)

Booing.

That was one of the things that bothered me most about the Bills game. Hey, I’m not happy with how things were going either, but really? Booing your team at the home opener? That certainly can’t help them in regards to getting pumped up.

by Archyrr on Sep 21, 2011 9:44 AM CDT up reply actions

Different strokes for different folks im my book

Last I checked, admission wasn’t free. Unless you are very lucky Cable and/or Satellite aren’t free.

Perhaps you are the sort of person who eats a meal in a restaurant despite it being undercooked or otherwise not what you ordered. I’m the type who demands my money back.

To each their own.

Now if these same people are spouting curse words, or attacking fans of the opposing (or same) team – that’s classless.

Booing is the classy way of acknowledging negativity, and there is nothing wrong with it. It is no different than expressing positive feelings (your team scores a touchdown) in a rude and classless way by gloating to fans of the other team.

Being positive/negative has nothing to do with Class, only how you express your feelings. Booing is the least of what this team deserves right now, in my strong opinion. Once you factor in how much they get paid and what we pay to see it – are you kidding me?

Need edit feature

What I meant to say is how you express your feelings is where class comes in – period.

Booing is VERY different than gloating when your team does well (I worded that wrong above). One is negative while one is positive, but how they are both expressed is the key in my opinion.

And yes, if you haven’t guessed, I’m an extremely negative person. However, I feel I treat people with kindness and respect until they treat me otherwise.

Mr. Rag.................love the way you express your feelings

………………..IMO this is what makes AP so great. Debating with respect to each others opinions. Great stuff guys!

Booing is not my “cup of tea” but that doesnt mean others can’t. I just feel that 99% of the players are giving all they have, all the time. How can you Boo that? If after the maximum effort…. there are no results, than it’s a management issue.

Cheers, my friends!

We agree more than you may realize my friend

We may have different personalities, but I agree booing specific players is only warranted when they fail to give effort or continue to make the same mistakes.

One thing I left out in my original reply was you have to ask yourself who they were booing. In my strong opinion we should be booing the coaches/management at this point in time.

Either way, expecting human beings to be classy equals a life of disappointment. Just know there are many of us in the “negative nelly” club who truly try to keep it classy in our approach to others.

My best friend and my wife

Are what I’d describe as “positive Pollys.”

I’m simply the sort of person who dwells on cynics side of the fence, and it’s truly the foundation of my inner strength.

What I’m trying to say is I appreciate those who stay positive – hell I NEED them – but they tend to annoy me. Doesn’t mean I don’t love them, just means I’m the antichrist I guess. Sigh.

I personally feel differently about booing.

From what I saw, there were many examples of classless fandom that day. A few rows behind me there was a fan screaming expletives about Colquitt having three plays to get ready before he had to punt. He had to be spoken to because there were kids around. He’s just one example I saw and heard, the end result left me a little ashamed of my fellow fans.

I understand booing is some people’s form of expressing their displeasure to the organization. When it’s an official’s call, trust me I’m there booing too. Personally though, I think booing is more likely to have a negative effect than a positive one. Sure, some people hear that sort of thing and are driven to improve. I think more though are discouraged by it though, and the lack of support. Heck, it’s Arrowhead, we’re known for being loud, silence might actually send more of a message than anything else.

That’s just my two cents.

certainly better than throwing things on the field as has happened at some places ...

there is, of course, something to be said for “voting with your feet” or in this case, wallet (not buying a ticket) … but then too, a season ticket holder has little recourse once the ticket has been purchased

So we play the YO-YO seasons

Last year we had a last place schedule went 10-6 and won the west, this year we have a first place schedule and will most likely not go 6-10, next year we will have another last place schedule and will have our players back (10-6+)…Does anyone see a pattern developing here?

we're the Microsoft of football

Win 3.1 was very good
Win 95 was very bad
Win 98 was excellent
Win 2000 was horrible
XP was fabulous
Win 7 was the most atrocious platform since the abacus
Vista is pretty good …

I think you have Vista and 7 backwards there Ups.

Though personally, I didn’t have nearly the problems with Vista as most people. But then, I generally turn off all the new features in a new OS to start with, then test out each one and see what I like. Except for the icon changes, my desktop looks much the same as it has since probably XP. Well, actually with 7 I did make use of most of the changes, but before that it was pretty standardized.

by Archyrr on Sep 21, 2011 9:46 AM CDT up reply actions

yeah, I do have those two backwards ... ty and duly corrected :-)

to be honest, I still use XP and love it … didn’t even want to THINK about Vista, can’t afford new PC with 7 right now anyway so I’ll stay with my old, outdated XP that continues to do exactly as I need it to do

I figured, I was mostly just curious if there was a segment of people who hated 7 as much or more than Vista.

My laptop with Win 7 was a bit of a splurge purchase. I’d separated from my wife a few months before and quickly realized that with the finances firmly in my control I wasn’t spending nearly the same amount of money. So with my reenlistment bonus installment coming in, and a work trip a few weeks out, I sought out an option for portable computing. At first I was going to go with a netbook, but realized that I wasn’t comfortable with it’s limitations. So for a few hundred more dollars I got a release date Win 7 Asus. The only had three real problems with it in the time since. One appeared to be a software conflict with my mouse/keyboard, the second was a burned out cooling fan from when I accidently left it sitting on the bed. The final thing, and the only problem that remains appears to be a short in the wiring going up to the screen. Just a little bit too much usage wore it out I guess, but it’s an easy fix when I can allot the money to it.

I agree 1000% with what your saying Ups, EXCEPT:
I mean, it has to, right?

I'm all for being classy

but judging by half the people i see at arrowhead on game day, i would say it’s a stretch to call chiefs nation classy. I’m a die hard fan, but there is a reason why some of us call it camarohead. To be honest, i actually think it’s kind of a good thing to have a little belligerence as a fan base.
