Chiefs Getting Humiliated By The Lions
This is just bad.
Five turnovers by the Chiefs. QB Matthew Stafford has four touchdown passes, including two to WR Calvin Johnson. The Chiefs defense just hasn't shown up. The offense started off well but can't hang onto the ball.
This is really bad. Ugh.

I understand Pioli brought Cassel in and gave him 70 Million over 7 years or whatever, and if Haley put in another QB he would probably get fired even quicker, but this is crazy!

I bet Clark won’t allow it should they be in the position to draft Luck because of the contract they gave Cassel. Is it the O-line or Cassel that the Chiefs coaching staff does not believe in because most of those throws were of the Steve Bono 3-yard variety.

This was all about turnovers
I know everyone is angry, but those 5 turnovers were converted into 27 points. That was the entirety of the game.
[...]when Giants coach Steve Owen, a certified defensive genius, was asked how he planned to stop Nagurski, he said: "With a shotgun, as he’s leaving the dressing room."
Yeah, but 14-3, there's still hope.
Your guys played hard, but made mistakes at key moments and the Lions cashed in like good teams do. I can easily say you’re not the worst team in the NFL right now, though, you guys just have a ton of injuries and bad luck these first two weeks.
Hopefully Charles is back soon.

5 turnovers
So KC would have lost 20-3. That makes me feel better
Well to be fair.. if those 5 drives ended in TDs it's 38-20
It’s not only the fact the turnovers ended in points for the Lions, but they also took points away from the Chiefs.

As much as I'd like to believe that
It seems crazy to think 3 players would make this much better.
As I said earlier
with Stafford and Best missing a lot of time last year, the Lions were 6-10.
There have been some upgrades on D, but those missing offensive pieces probably cost the Lions a .500 or better record.

I blame the players
When you have players making hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars I think as a player it goes without saying that you throw the ball, catch the ball, block and tackle. The coach cannot hang on to the ball for you or make the tackle. These are elements of playing football that any decent high school player is aware of. Having said that this team doesn’t lack talent, it lacks brains. How do you come back from being so disciplined last year and show up and look like you have never seen a football before? Bad throws, dropped interceptions, fumbles, penalties, missed tackles, poor blocking and you name it. The players own this shit plain and simple.
"Don't smell like shit."
I agree. I dont get it. why is there no heart, why are they executing poorly fumbling football, dropping passes, then just bad tackling, bad D

Last game of 2010 season, Home vs Raiders. Lost 10-31
Playoffs vs Ravens, @ Home, Lost 7-30
week 1 2011, @ Home vs Bills, Lost 7-41
week 2 2011, Away vs Lions, Losing 3-41 in the 4th with 10 minutes to go.
And this ignoring Pre-season.

I’m not saying this in a defeatist attitude, but when you get blown out in 40(+) to 3 type games back-to-back weeks to start the season after a HORRIBLE pre-season… don’t expect to win a game until proven otherwise. It isn’t like we are getting beat 24-14… we are getting taken to the woodshed in the worst possible way.
It is like the players and coaches have already given up. Due to play and horribly costly injures.
If we keep this up, Haley will be gone for 100% at the end of the season and possibly by the bye week.

I don’t think Pioli is all that bad, but I do think Martin Mayhew has been better. He’s turned a team that went 0-16 in 2008 into one that’s looked pretty damned good all the way around. I’m not sure what to make of the Chiefs. I really think it’s the coach.

This isn’t a question in being disagreement, but just curious? I don’t think Fisher would be that bad to be honest. I don’t think Cowher will leave the analyst booth. I really have no clue outside of Fisher to get of quality?
I want a defensive minded coach that when you add Andrew Luck with a quality OC… we have something.
Fisher has been remarkably unremarkable.
I honestly don’t know.
by craig in calgary on Sep 18, 2011 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions
Werent they good for a decade with Fisher
Always had great defense and did it with sub-par QBs. Collins, McNair, Young
Good running teams.
I will say that he never won the SB. But, I don’t think Cower wants any part of this.
Fisher Was A .500 Coach The Last Decade Of His Time In Tennessee
Never won a playoff game after his Super Bowl…he wasn’t anything special.
I’d rather the Chiefs went with a better hire. Gregg Williams in New Orleans would be okay. Marty Morhinweg from Philly. Hell, what’s Marty Schottenheimer up to these days? Fire Haley and bring him on board again…at least it gives us a reason to watch the rest of this year.

Yes, But...
I think Pioli (or any GM) deserves about five years to try and get things going. Generally, I think a head coach deserves about three (although I wanted Haley fired two years ago) and that’s what Haley has been given. I expected a regression this season, as our 10-6 record last year was mainly a factor of a weak schedule, but this is more like a total collapse and I think it’s fair to ask if Haley has any idea what he’s doing…similar to what was happening with Herm’s teams during his final year. Last week was bad, but back-to-back weeks of blowouts with what appears to be serious ineptitude on the part of the coaching staff should bring competence into question. Simply put, this team hasn’t looked good since Charlie Weis announced he was leaving.
That being said
Pioli is DICKING this franchise by sitting on money in FA. We are not complete and cannot possibly get from point A to point B simply by waiting year to year for the draft. He is proving to be a moron in FA. We are not improving, at all. The buck stops with him, as far as I’m concerned. He hired the coach and signed off on all of said coach’s bonehead hires/promotions. He shares the blame.
Bottom line, Scott needs to quit sitting on the wallet and get the team some fucking talent.
It's not just that we're losing
it’s who we’re losing to and by how much…
Cassel Supporters?
I remember someone talking trash on Cassel Bashers when he made his second completion and it was for like 15 yards? Where you guys at now? 3 int and a fumble and about the same passing stats as last week.
I used to be a Cassel supporter but get rid of him.
Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.
In A Semi-Defense Of Cassel
I think he’s a system QB who is currently in a system unsuited to his ability being run by a horrible coach. I don’t think he’s as bad as this, nor as good as his peak last year…somewhere in between. I’d like to see what he can do with a good coach.
That said, we should still totally take Luck if he falls to us, even if Cassel gets a coach who knows how to use him,
HaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHAHAHAHAHA

Haley's injury deal with the devil from 2010 came due
The officiating was horrendous the first half...
now that they gave the Lions a large lead they have become a little more fair. Though it really doesn’t freaking matter if you turn the ball over 6 times. The officiating couldn’t even change the outcome of 6 turnovers.
Go Chiefs!!!!
I agree but disagree
Anyone who’s played football knows that momentum is the biggest factor in winning and losing. We were taken out of the game early by the refs and a few bonehead plays and it changed the complexion of the game. The same thing happened against Baltimore last year.

Feel really bad for you guys.
First thing the injuries you guys got during this game really sucks, feel for you on that. I honestly felt from what I saw while Jamaal Charles was in the game it was going to probably pan out to be around a one possession game.
All else I gotta say is hopefully things turn around for you guys later. Took us a long time to find some magic, we even squandered having arguably the greatest RB of all time.

Running up the score
I love this. Will Haley be mad again at the end of the game, because we have got the score run up on us yet again. The Chiefs are upset. Well get some damn pride, and start playing for goodness sakes. I have supported Cassel for my last game. I have given him every opportunity. A great guy, but not a starting QB in this league. When was the last time this team had one of those. I wonder if Montana was serious in those Sketcher’s commercials in coming out of retirement. Hey Piolo and Haley. News flash. Cut players for the patriots and the arizona cardinals don’t make quality starters. LOL. Bring on San Diego. There is no way Rivers is going to light up this defense. Dude may score 8 td’s next week. Add him to your fantasy team!
Well at least some of the comments about last week being a fluke will stop....I hope.

Yup. All we can do now is laugh instead of cry.

I'm with ya
Last week did so much to kill my expectations for this season that I wasn’t too upset today.
Predictions:
I'm going to stop predicting positive things
^I'm over this^
Its complete hilarity at this point. Couldn’t care less about the season….over this shit
They are who we thought they were.
How can you tell if the plays stink, execution is terible.

Cassel
I have eaten about all the cassel stew I can handle, he looked HORRIBLE today. Not just him and not just his fault but he is supposed to be the leader on offense yet he looked like a wet dog before anyone else on the team!
**Heres to 5 more years of JC!!!!**
I think the thing that really irritates me the most with Cassel isn’t the fact he is HORRIBLE but the fact he sits on the bench and doesn’t LEAD his team.
I’m sick if his pitty me attitude and if i am a fan seeing it, wonder what its like being a teammate feeling it.
Agreed. The game has been over for 5 minutes and I think detroit is still creating turnovers

take whoever is playing the Chiefs. Winner winner chicken dinner.

LOL... nice.

No one can honestly tell me that before Charles went out that you weren't thinking that we had a good shot today.
The defense was playing well the offense was playing well, the running game had put up 100 yards in the first quarter. Its a young team that isn’t handling adversity all that well and when you lose 3 of your best 5 players on the team there’s a pretty good reason why.

There's no such thing as depth to replace guys like we've had to replace.
You don’t carry back up pro bowl RBS or back up pro bowl safeties or back up 1st round talent TEs unlees you’re sitting on a gem in the rough. Some of it falls on the coaches for sure and yea the depth could be better but i guess my point was I don’t think we’re as bad as the score board is saying we are but we might be in for a long year.

I was calling for a new RB this whole time
Hopefully Charles’ injury is not bad(never heard)
We are very thin on the Oline, S, etc.. I’m not really sure how anyone feels safe with Sabby as the #2

Who is calling for Crennel to be the HC?
Our defense has been so bad its pathetic. We have top draft choices all over the board and they dont execute at all. Crennel needs to be shown the door before Haley…..as a matter of fact Romeo Crennel, Gary Gibbs, Anthony Pleasant, Emmitt Thomas, and whoever else helps with defense needs to be fired immediately!

Really?
Something has to change…starting with the defense

starting with the defense?!?!
what about an offense that has scored 10 points in two games & produced 7-8 turnovers?
Predictions:
I'm going to stop predicting positive things
How many TO attribute to Cassel alone?

I stuggle to understand how a GM
that has been around a tom Brady and HC that has been around Kurt Warner, can feel that Cassel is the answer
Still ours!!!

No, it's not ours, that is a foregone conclusion. We won it in the past, but this fucking team doesn't deserve a second place trophy in pop warner
They are who we thought they were.
It's ours until someone else win's it at the end of the season

It's so surreal. I couldn't have imagined us being this bad.
We’re not even somewhat competitive. This is just utterly embarrassing, from top to bottom.

Over/Under on Haley's Job......
If the Chiefs lose 2 more remotly like this, I give 2:1 odds on his job. Any Takers?
Worst to First to Worst!
We just might be worse than Denver.
I’d take Orton over Cassel right about now
Predictions:
I'm going to stop predicting positive things
I would take orton over cassel to begin with. All the way back to the anouncment of cassel coming here

On the bright side
We are Chiefs fans, one fanbase that has endured many a Playoff-less season, albeit many a Under-.500. Unacceptable, but I mean, at least we have loyal fans.

Haleys next paycheck should come from the unemployment office
Playoffs are a REAL possibility in 2010...just need few tweeks here and there.
This loss hurts
I actually made the mistake of having hopes for this season. I know its an every other year league and I still let myself hope against hope that things would be ok this year.
There is still a lot of football to be played, but this team looks to be going downhill. I know injuries are a huge factor right now, but even the scheme and the preparedness looks flawed. Pioli and Haley are on notice I hope, this has to get turned around soon. I am a longtime fan, and I have been through tough years before, heck tough decades before, but this it the worst I have felt after week 2 in a long, long time. Worst part about it is, I can’t see a fix. That said, GO BILLS.
Love the Chiefs, Hawkeyes, Golf (Obviously) and my wife and kids. Not in that order.
I'm done with the Chiefs
Been with them for 20+ years but I told myself today was the day to decide and see if they would compete at least. It’s over. I’m now a Lions fan and hopping to Gunther’s ship, a man who gave the Chiefs franchise everything and they just screwed him over and over again and scapegoated him for poor drafts and free agency deals. I don’t blame the Lions for running up the score today. I can’t support a noncompetitive team. I love what Haley has done with Bowe and Charles but I don’t think he’s HC material. He’s an OC only. Pioli’s first draft was horrible but he may have potential (his second was pretty good). His ego is enormous, however, and the CIA-level secrecy seems pretty stupid at times (but Belichick does the same thing). It’s the sticking with Cassel thing that is baffling to me. I wish y’all the best. I’m done but I really will be rooting for Stanzi in the back of my heart. But I’m a Lions and Gunther Cunningham fan as of about 10 minutes ago.

the sad thingis nothing will change next week
Pioli let the D-line leave in free agency
I can’t blame Crennel for that

but starting to wonder about haley

I hope we can beat the Denver Broncos
that would be nice
No coach
could have stopped this from happening. To be honest, blowouts aside, we were going to lose those games regardless because of Cassel and the horrible playcalling.
You say no coach could have stopped that.
But then you go on to say because of … the horrible playcalling.
oh
i mean haley. My bad, muirs the one playcalling for the offense.
True.
But if we do get Luck and eveyrone healthy by next year, haley can actually call plays for the offense instead of dinking and dunking with cassel.
Getting tired of the Luck talk already.
And if the Chiefs are drafting first overall, Haley won’t be around next year to call plays. At least not for the Chiefs.
why?
that would be the smart decision. Keeping Haley secure regarldess of what happens this year. Cassel limits so much of playcalling that its impossible for Haley to do what he did with warner in arizona.
Limits the playcalling
He should be fired for that alone. You dont limit anything. You call what you need and if they can’t get it done you get someone who can. And if we do have the #1 overall pick that means we’re going 2-14/3-13. And with 1 winning record in his 4 years I don’t think that qualifies as security.
I just think
we should keep haley as head coach regardless of what happens this year. By next year well get everyone back hopefully healthy, even get gaithers healthy, draft luck and an o lineman second round. well have a great team next year no need to blame the coach for cassels crappy accuracy and terribel qb play.
No way!
Pioli cannot let this continue too many more games. If we continue THIS for 2-4 more games he’s gotta go. Good Coaches cannot allow this to happen with decent players. Players that the GM thinks are competent.
We need to draft a RB anyway to replace TJ
He’ll be gone anyway. With JC on IR, we need somebody in that draft.
Love the Chiefs, Hawkeyes, Golf (Obviously) and my wife and kids. Not in that order.
They may indeed draft a RB.
But I would expect McClain to get Jones’ carries next year, with Bannon probably making the team as FB.
That would be OK
Provided McClain does come back next year. He’s on a one year too right?
Love the Chiefs, Hawkeyes, Golf (Obviously) and my wife and kids. Not in that order.
I still say cut Battle
draft a RB, and promote Bannon to special teams. He’s Huge.
Love the Chiefs, Hawkeyes, Golf (Obviously) and my wife and kids. Not in that order.
If they end the year on IR
does that automatically put them on PUP? Dumb question but I don’t know for sure.

What ever they are paying Cassel, it's way tooooooooo much
