OT Jared Gaither Is Active For Chiefs Vs. Lions

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their inactives for today's Week 2 game against the Detroit Lions. There aren't any major surprises on the list but one somewhat surprising name that's not listed.

Here are all seven inactives: QB Ricky Stanzi, S Reshard Langford, OT Steve Maneri, WR Keary Colbert, DE Brandon Bair, NT Jerrell Powe and WR Jonathan Baldwin.

The news out of this is that OT Jared Gaither is active. Whether he plays or not, we don't know. But, unlike last week, he'll be available on gameday.

Langford returned to the team this week when S Eric Berry went down so it looks like a combo of S Jon McGraw and S Sabby Piscitelli will be Berry's replacements today. Colbert was active last week but not this time around and Baldwin is was already ruled out this week as he recovers from a thumb injury.

Is it possible Powe has an injury? Inactive for the first 2 games at a weak position...

He's third string.

And he can only play one position, unlike the backup NT. I’m not sure why people are surprised that he’s inactive.

So why is Sabby out there? haha

No NT can stay in the whole game, we even bring ours out in the subpackages. Need to keep Gregg fresh so we don’t have a meltdown like Ron the past few years. Which is where Powe comes in IMO.

Both times he limped

He hadn’t even been touched. He also didn’t miss a single down, having cramped up after a failed 3rd down conversion and a touchdown pass. Freeman, in counterpoint, missed an entire possession when he went to go get an IV.

How so?

He never missed a game of high school or college, none of his injuries are repeat injuries, he had the same shoulder surgery as Bradford (who played 16 games last year), he’s taken hits in pre-season and against TB week 1.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t get after him, you absolutely should, but people that claim he’s “fragile” are just parroting what they’ve heard from talking heads who have no sound bytes beyond “if he can stay healthy.” A couple fluke injuries does not fragility make — Calvin Johnson and Jahvid Best are more fragile than he is.

One came after a shoe string tackle, people can say he is injury prone until proven otherwise.

His shoulder has had one injury, game 1 against the Bears when Julius Peppers sacked him in a half-nelson directly onto it. It was aggravated against the Jets again later in the season, which made it require surgery.

Okay.

So Eric Berry is fragile too, right? Because someone else is going to be playing in his stead for this entire season. An unfortunate injury does not make you fragile.

Bovine scatology.

If a player has an unfortunate injury to his leg, and then has an unfortunate injury to, say, his arm, suddenly he’s “fragile”? Absurd.

Stafford is no more prone to injury than any other player in the NFL.

Is your logic consistent or not? You said it, not me. I don’t think Eric Berry is injury prone, and I don’t think Stafford is injury prone, but according to your logic they both are.

"You've got to respect your opponent, no matter who it is. You respect him best by going out there and beating him up." - Calvin Johnson

Because 1 has had multiple injuries that takes him out of both seasons he has played in the NFL

The other had 1 injury which some still debate could have been dirty?

What logic are you following? You talk about Stafford’s injuries then twist it around to Berry’s 1?

Alameda Ta’amu NT/DE 2012 Draftee

I'm following your logic.
“Would be true if every player only plays what.. 14 games in their first 2 seasons?”

That applies to everyone, doesn’t it? I can tell, because you said “every player” explicitly. Obviously, how the injuries occur, whether they are flukes, or past history doesn’t matter whatsoever (since you’re happily disregarding all of that), so none of it matters in Berry’s case. Injury prone.

But I get it, you’re a Chiefs fan so you’re going to defend your safety, but not everyone watches Chiefs games so they go off what they see. Berry played too many snaps last year, so he’s just getting worn down. Not everyone has a body for hits in the NFL.

See how this works?

Err.

You said there is a difference between Stafford and Berry’s injuries by pointing out Berry is a pro-bowler, like pro-bowlers can’t be injury prone. Again, I reiterate, Berry lost a season on a fluke tear, Stafford lost a season on a fluke tear.

Most fans have the right to put the label on Berry if they have the right to put it on Stafford. Heck, I can put the label on Drew Brees. He’s just as fragile as Stafford — sure, he may have been good for the past couple years, but he’s a walking time bomb!

Look, I’m sorry I’ve been flippant. Do you know how annoying it is to hear “oh, we’ll win this, Stafford will just get hurt again” every. single. game? I barely even have the heart to argue with it anymore. Every time the Lions are mentioned on the media, it’s “if Stafford can stay healthy,” the most redundant phrase in the universe. Every team is “if [franchise QB of choice] can stay healthy,” but we’re the only ones where they need to state the obvious constantly. It’s just frustrating. I’ll let it go.

The probowl was a point to prove he can be healthy all season

It’s not like Stafford has only had 1 single injury and went out in 1 season. Both seasons he has been in the league he has been out with injuries. It is as simple as that

Not at all.

If a guy keeps getting injured to different parts of his body, that suggests his body type cannot handle the physical pounding in the NFL. Our own (previously) Brodie Croyle could not stay healthy, and it wasn’t the same injury each time. That’s not what injury prone means.

by Tarkus on Sep 18, 2011 11:18 AM CDT up reply actions

Keeps getting injured how?

If one person has 3 injuries over a 10 year long career, versus 3 injuries over a 2 year long career, the latter is obviously more prone to injury yes? Gambler’s fallacy.

Flukes are flukes, regardless.
