Show Me What You're Made Of

Well, the fiasco of last week's Buffalo game is long behind us and fading (thankfully) into distant memory and the distant past. It is my considered opinion that few in Chiefs Nation saw that debacle coming. Personally, I thought the game might follow some of the same trends as last year's game early, but I thought the Chiefs running game would overpower the Bills late in the game with the Chiefs winning by a substantial margin. Boy, was I wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. The Chiefs from a couple of years ago showed up and took over from the AFC West Champions of last year and left many of us shaking our heads. How could that be?

Others have analyzed the game with much more skill and expertise than I, and I don't think that revisiting that mess would benefit either myself or any of the Arrowhead Pride faithful. So, where you may ask does that leave us? Chiefs fans are deflated (an understatement of the first degree) and dejected after the worst home opening loss in the HISTORY of the Kansas City Chiefs. Uh, just for effect, let me say that again......the worst home opening loss in the HISTORY of the Kansas City Chiefs. I thought we were all through with record breaking pitifullness a couple of years ago. I was wrong. Badness of the "nth" degree jumped up and bit myself and every other Chiefs fan on the ass. The "sky is falling" crowd has had their say, as well as the "we aren't that bad" crowd. Me? I don't know what to think. Soooooooooooo, this is a show me what you're made of game.

The game Sunday will make a statement about where the team is. Chiefs fans are humiliated and embarrassed after last week's loss. The question is, are the coaches and players embarrassed and what are they going to do about it? After you get your ass handed to you on a platter, you get down right junk yard dog mean, and you come out and kick some ass. That is, you do if you are a team with some heart. But, (and that is a but as big as J-Lo's) that will be mighty tall order against the young and resurgent Lions. The Lions have some real studs on their team on both offense and defense. This would not be an easy game even if it were at home. Since it is on the road, it will just be that much tougher. Facing a tough schedule for the remainder of the season, do the Chiefs dig deep and and come up big against the Lions? I, for one, certainly hope so.
