My! How things change.

There is not a Chief's fan alive that was anymore pissed about our team's play, or lack of, this past Sunday.  I waited until now to write a post, to allow my emotions to settle somewhat.  I have no idea of what is going to happen in Detroit, this Sunday.  We are a major underdog, as we well should be, after last week's performance.  All I know is that I am not going to allow the outcome of the game to cause me to take a total 180, and all of a sudden have a hatred for Todd Haley, Matt Cassel, Scott Pioli or even Andy Studebaker.

The Chief's were predicted to win approximately 5 to 7 games in 2010, by most experts, and I thnk the majority of those who post on this site.  A few of us were a little more optimistic, but I didn't predict a 10 win season, without some reservation.  I was confident, but not even totally sold on my own judgment.  All I know is that the team gave us more joy and hope than any team we have had since Dick Vermeil's team, early in past decade.  I for one, am not willng to just throw that season away, and call it all luck, and just benefiting from an easy schedule, as I am hearing more and more from the pundits, and many on here. I still look at last season as a very important stage in our development, even if we do backslide this season.

i think the general consensus on this site, during the lockout and after what most of us considered a pretty good draft, was that Scott Pioli and Todd Haley were stockpilng alot of talent on the team.  Most of us were pleased with the Breaston, Kelly Gregg and McClain signings.  The polls that are posted on here displayed alot of love for our leadership. With a very lackluster preseason, and questioning Coach Haley's "plan", some of the optimism began to wane.  The criticism (even some by myself) began to build.   By this past Sunday evening, all Hell broke lose!

As I stated to start this post, I have no idea of what to expect this weekend, or this season, for that matter.  I do, and have, questioned how Todd Haley handled the Preseason, but I also can see his reasoning for it.  Did it come back and bite him in the ass?  Yeah, kinda looks like it, but regardless of how this season plays out, I am not going to spew hate towards him, or the organization, in general.  I will criticize, like everybody, over certain decisions, the team's overall play, etc.,but I will still appreciate the hope that Scott Pioili and Todd Haley have given us, after so many dismal years, and I am sticking with my 2012 Superbowl predicition.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

I'll be the first

to admit this season has the makings of disaster written all over it. While I’m skeptical on Haley’s ability to both be the HC and the OC (no, I don’t believe Rip Van Winkle Muir is calling many, if any, plays), I do know the odds of making a Super Bowl appearance after a losing season (I’m going to say we’ll be lucky to go 6-10), are slim to none. And if Haley is fired after this season, those odds become zero.

I agree, I don’t hate Haley. Or Pioli. Or Stude. But, the situation surrounding Haley is kind of like the one with Stude. Even though you work your tail off and give a team all you’ve got, it doesn’t mean you’re best suited for the job. And just as we’ve seen Houston rise and overtake Andy, I’m afraid (if we continue to lose in this fashion), that we’ll see the rise of a new HC and Haley will be shown the door.

1989 Steelers

Lost their first two games 92-10, including a home loss 51-0 to their hated division rivals the Browns. They ended up losing 24-23 to the Broncos in a divisional playoff game. 2003 the Patriots lost on opening day 31-0 to the Bills of all teams, then went 34-3 with 2 SB Wins.

I am sure there are other miserable starts but considering how we ended last season we need to get our act together ASAP.

I remember that Patriots-Bills game

That was just days after the Patriots cut fan-favorite Lawyer Milloy, who promptly signed a contract with the Bills. Lots of head-scratching and questioning following the blowout loss to Milloy’s new team, but as you said, New England then proceeded to destroy the rest of the league over the next couple of seasons.

QB Garrett Gilbert was the Beavis & Butthead episode of the 2010 college football season. Even when things were going well there was always one bad decision that meant he wasn’t going to score.

Remember how bad the Pats beat the Jets in the regular season last year?

The Pats humiliated the Jets during the regular season, only to lose in the playoffs. Listen guys. I’m not against criticizing the team, Haley, Pioli, Cassel, or whoever. I’m not one that believes a real fan can’t be critical of his team and their performance. Tex. makes a vey valid point about this not being something that is just beginning. We did not finish 2010 well, at all. I don’t think Coach Haley used the right approach in Preseason, but I do see his reasoning, as I mentioned I do not think this team was prepared to play a football game last Sunday, so he didn’t utilize training camp, or the pre-season well. I will say, however, that he was the first to take the blame for it, and didn’t pass the buck. Will this be a short term problem, or a long term problem? I don’t know. I am just willing to give him and Pioli the benefit of the doubt, as they did alot more with what I thought wasn’t a real talented team, and they stuck generally with the guys that were already on the roster, who many of us had pretty well given up on. So let’s see. I may be writing a can Haley petition before the season is over, for everyone to sign! I just think it’s too early to crucify anyone.

Browns

Beat the hell out of the Patriots 34-14, the Raiders beat the hell out of the Broncos 59-14 and then a few weeks later got drilled 35-3 by the Steelers and then 33-17 at home by the Dolphins. Any given Sunday anyone can have your number. I think if there wasn’t such a bad taste from the end of lat season this loss would have been easier to take. Hell instead of blow out losses can’t Haley just lose one 24-17?

I agree

I think people are overreacting for us only having played 1 game. Including last years losses to Oak and Baltimore is kinda ridiculous. This is a new year and I think how we respond against the Lions will show us what kinda team we have. It just takes us to blow out the Lions to have people singing a different tune. I do think us having Muir as a OC or “pretend OC” was a terrible choice. Haley needs to just be a head coach and stop trying to do everyones job. Having trust in your coaches goes along way. And as far as Cassel goes, its only one game so people saying he took a nose dive after Weis doesnt make sense to me. I am slowly falling out of favor with him though but still think and hope hill be ok.
