I've tracked the 2011 team since training camp. I attended the second night practice in St. Joe. I wondered why the team wasn't practicing hard. It looked like a walkthrough. No contact. No live 11-on-11 action. The practice was boring to the fans who attended.
Todd Haley gambled on his plan to take it slow through the pre-season and the first three pre-season games. And that gamble may earn him a pink slip.
I don't understand why he changed his approach from 2010 training camp and pre-season to the 2011 approach. Last year's plan netted him a division championship and a remarkable 10-6 record. Why change? Oh, I understand that the lock out changed everything. But Haley was the only NFL coach to implement this approach. That should tell you how stupid it was. Of all the great NFL coaches currently, he was the sole coach to do this.
I predicted the Chiefs would go 4-12 after hearing Tony Moeoki was placed on injured reserve. I'm going to stick with that prediction.
But what I really want, and I know this sounds sick, but I wouldn't be too disappointed to see them go 1-16 this year and draft Andrew Luck with the overall Number 1. This organization needs to draft a franchise quarterback. They never, in their rich history, have done that.
