Chiefs Inactives Include OT Jared Gaither

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their inactive for today's game against the Buffalo Billsvia Josh Looney:

QB Ricky Stanzi, CB Donald Washington, CB Jalil Brown, OT Jared Gaither, WR Jonathan Baldwin, DE Brandon Bair and NT Jerrell Powe.

Remember, gameday rosters are at 46 players this year, instead of 45, so there are only seven inactives per game.

All these inactives are notables, outside of Bair. The third quarterback rule is out but Stanzi is still inactive. Washington and Brown are the two members of the secondary that are out and Gaither, who suffered an injury earlier in the week and hasn't practiced much, is inactive. We knew Baldwin would be out because of the thumb injury and Powe, the other nose tackle on the roster, is inactive.

The most notable inactive is Gaither, in my opinion. The Chiefs are rolling with two offensive tackles on the roster so an injury to OT Brandon Albert or OT Barry Richardson will cause some problems.

Wait, wait, wait....no Powe?

Uhhhh…who’s going to spell Kelly Gregg?

thats what i was thinking

Dorsey?

Gotta love a good pass rush.

God, no.

Gordon or TJax would be better options than Dorsey.

Both.

Dorsey isn’t strong against a double team, and we intentionally try to get him singled up as often as possible. His arms are pretty short for a NT, so he’d have trouble trying to grab a double against the G/C.

Tyson can grab doubles, but I’m not confident in him as a NT, and Gordon is far riskier than Powe.

thanks for explaining

appreciate it and now i understand

Gotta love a good pass rush.

Also

remember Haley’s theory. If you move one starter to another position due to injury….you are making changes to two positions instead of one….

I disagree with Gaither being the most notable….he was injured. Why is Powe not playing?

by AZDiamond75 on Sep 11, 2011 10:53 AM CDT up reply actions

Agreed.

Gaither is not a surprise; Powe is.

by Tarkus on Sep 11, 2011 11:14 AM CDT up reply actions

Unless they plan on playing a bunch of nickel

Makes a little sense. Buffalo is a pass heavy team

by RamX21 on Sep 11, 2011 10:44 AM CDT up reply actions

Are they? I thought they were a little more balanced.

I’m still not a fan of running with one NT, especially an older one we’re trying not to wear out.

We still have

6 DL active. That is what we had last year. We basically kept more WRs and less DBs.

by AZDiamond75 on Sep 11, 2011 11:42 AM CDT up reply actions

I think Gordon can step in and play some NT

From what I gather they are a pass first team.

by RamX21 on Sep 11, 2011 10:49 AM CDT up reply actions

And maybe he can.

But Powe definitely can, and did it fairly well in the Preseason. That’s what it comes down to for me: Powe > Gordon, and I already like our depth (Gilberry and Bailey) at the DE position.

Oh I agree 1000% about Powe

just going on what we know to be active

by RamX21 on Sep 11, 2011 10:53 AM CDT up reply actions

Right.

Just odd to me. And who knows, maybe Gregg will go all game just fine.

That's exactly what I'm saying.

Our Depth Chart has Powe as his backup. Who knows.

I don't get it

Is Powe injury related? This 53/45 rule is dumb.

by craig in calgary on Sep 11, 2011 11:00 AM CDT up reply actions

He hasn't been on any reports as not practicing.

This baffles me.

It is to make it fair if one team has injuries.

I would like the teams to be able to dress as many as both teams can. Just make it the same number on each team.

I'd just about wager we'll see around 50% nickel today

May not be a ton of NT snaps as is.

I still really wanted to see Powe get worked in some though. =/

The Chiefs and I have mutually agreed on this decision and although I look forward to continuing my career, I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Kansas City.

Can play end or tackle. Evidently he’s the new-age Nutcracker.

WHat about that kid we picked up on waivers from NE

That makes 3 OT’s. Powe has me scratching my head along with Stanzi being MC is a little dinged.

Not suprised by Stanzi.

I think most teams will opt for two QB’s with the new roster rules. The extra special teamer is too valuable and generally if you are on QB #3 you are pretty much screwed anyways.

Gaither isn’t a surprise, it’s a setback.

Not sure if anyone realizes...or cares.

But Manning was the only guy with a real shot to break Farve’s consecutive starts record (obviously excluding younger players with only a couple seasons in).

Powe more than Gaither, I think

and the new guy … Lucas Patterson, OG (if I remember the story a bit ago with Bannon getting cut) … is he active?
