If its one thing we are all in agreement on here at Arrowhead Pride its our love for the Chiefs. For me I know the players are always going to change, guys I like will retire, get cut, or get traded that is the nature of the beast. Regardless of the situation, how poor the team has been in the past, or who fails to show up at the beginning of the season, right around this time of year I know I will get to see the red and gold on the field. Even though its preseason and to many a completely pointless time of the year, just seeing those uniforms on the field gets me excited. Preseason was always the school is about to start time of the year and the games were about to start counting time of the year, not to mention it was going to start getting cooler and deer season was right around the corner!
Growing up in Southwest Missouri starting around 1990 when I first caught a Chiefs game I was hooked, and up until I shipped out to MCRD San Diego in October 2003, right in the middle of that awesome season mind you, there isn't one instance I can remember of missing a Chiefs game on Sunday. It was my families ritual, it didn't matter what was going on, who was where or what, there wasn't any plans on Sunday if the Chiefs were on. I'm sure many of you have similar stories to that, and continue to enjoy living in an area where you can adjust your schedules to catch each game.
Well this year it seems I won't be watching very many of the games. Just like during my three deployments to Iraq, I'm sure the Sundays I will spend not in front of the television during football season are going to be painful. Luckily in Iraq I would usually get to check the internet once every week or two and see just where we were at in the standings and every so often they would have a game on that we would get to watch. Over there I was in a different mindset though that allowed me to miss the games and not be so upset. While I was stateside I was lucky enough to be able to afford Directv and the NFL package so living in Oklahoma, I was able to watch all the games on Sundays!
My question to Arrowhead Pride today is what can I do, as a person who is about to start working in a specialty role in the oilfields, do to watch the games on Sunday? I'm not very up to speed with the electronics in the world, the phone I have is just a basic free phone, that doesn't get any internet. I don't know if any of you have worked in the oilfields or not, but my schedule is really not going to allow time to take off and watch the games and the pay is something that I just cannot pass up at this time seeing as how they were the first company to even want to higher a disabled veteran as myself. I was wondering if there is some sort of phone out there that you can actually stream the games on live, or maybe a computer package that I can set up, and at least record the games on my computer and be able to watch them when my shift is over. I know I wont be missing every game, which is a good thing, and actually plan on going to Arrowhead for a few games when my schedule will allow it. The Sundays I do have off I will be able to do my old routine like I did while I was stationed at Camp Pendleton and find a sports bar and a TV early and keep my eyes glued on it.
I no longer have Directv, because I would have just DVR'd them and refrained from seeing any scores until I could make it home to watch them. I'm sure some of you are in the same boat as myself, people who have to work on Sundays or travel alot and miss the games so any information you could pass my way would be greatly appreciated!
