Anyone with kids knows this question all to well. I feel like one of those kids as a Chiefs fan.
More after the jump...
Growing up in Indiana, all I've ever heard about is the Colts. As a young pup, I got the privilege of seeing our beloved Chiefs lose to the Colts on multiple occassions (from the stupid kicker who shall not be named, to the no punt game...), and regular season games here and there. I've gone through harassment for being a Chiefs fan most of my life (especially within the last 5 years...thanks Herm!).
However, last year was different. I'll admit that as I watched the MNF game vs the Chargers, I was amazed that we were playing so well. Needless to say, the entire season pretty much shocked me. At the beginning of the season, I never would've thought we were going to be over .500, let alone in the playoffs. Imagine living in Peyton Manning's backyard, taunted by his gaudy statistics, awards, and wins (including 2 Super Bowl appearances and one SB win and MVP), while watching Brodie Croyle "go to work." As a Chiefs fan, my "fan" life has been pretty miserable. However, last season was such a breath of fresh air for me. WE WERE FINALLY WINNING AGAIN! Unfortunately, we all know how it ended...another playoff loss.
Which leads me to the point: Are we there yet?
Yes, we've added some new faces and signed some of the familiar ones that we desperately needed to keep, but is it enough? Is it enough for us to keep winning in the regular season? Is it enough to finally win in the playoffs? Is it enough to finally make it back to the Super Bowl (I wasn't alive for SB IV, so I haven't experienced that yet)?
My answer: Winning? Yes. Playoffs win? Maybe. Super Bowl? No...we're not there yet, but we're heading in that direction.
You might ask: what do you think we need, then?
My answer: More experience.
We have a bunch of young pups, friends. I think we'd be wrong to place too much pressure on them. Should we want them to win? YES!!!!!!! Should we expect them to be world-beaters? Not exactly.
I'm definitely drinking the Chiefs koolaid, but no one has slipped anything in there to make me delusional, either.
PREDICTION: Chiefs win the AFC West, win in the first round of the playoffs, and are eliminated in the Divisional round.
