Did anyone else see this? Is it different for us to make jokes about this and for Gretz to do so? Personally, it makes me a least a bit more apprehensive that this might actually be the case:
"Justin says: Bob, what is the deal with Houston? I know he slipped a lot in the draft – is that the angle they are working? He’s gotta know his actions caused the slip and holding out seems to be running down the wrong path again. Also who is his agent? Is that perhaps a problem too; too much sunshine blown up the rookie’s rear end?Bob says: Justin, see above for most of the info you are seeking. His agent’s not likely to be the problem. Segal represents a lot of players and he’s not the type to burn a bridge because he knows he’ going to have to cross that bridge again with another client. Whether it’s trying to get first round money, or not wanting to sign a personal conduct policy, or maybe something else. Consider that maybe Houston wasn’t prepared for the lockout to end so early, and he needs some time to get things out of his system, so to speak. Who knows, but he’s only hurting himself at this point."

Of course everyone is thinking about that
Not everyone is writing it on our websites, though. Big claim to make without any evidence.
When you work for yourself...
I guess it’s easier to slide this in as a half-joking (half-serious?) thought. I sure hope it’s not actually the problem. I also have no idea how long it takes for said “things” to get out of one’s system…
Less than a week for a NFL caliber athlete with low body fat.
Im dismissing it as joking. I don’t know what the real reason is, but at the latest he wouldve been in camp yesterday if he was cleaning up.
Irresponsible by Mr Bob though. Never put a player on your own team on blast like that.
With UA, yeah. But hair follicle gives more accurate....
Problem is Houston’s absence has left him vulnerable to speculation. He was too stupid (or has a serious addiction) to get clean for a test he knew was coming. There is a rookie pay scale. The season is starting. What really only leaves a few logical explanations fir his absence:
1) fight over guaranteed money
2) fight over personal conduct clause
3) he knows he has “something” in his system
It could be all three.
But as Bob pointed out, his agent isn’t going to burn bridges with the Chiefs, so that makes the first one seem unlikely, and the second slightly less likely.
Nobody wants it to be three, but Pioli took a chance on first round talent in the third. We don’t ‘need’ him. If he continues holding out, he is only hurting himself and his career. At this point, he’s already hurt his career with the chiefs a good deal. Not exactly a way to become a fan favorite either….

Should take that back
Gretz makes it clear he’s speculating and not stating as a fact. That’s my bad.

He's the only player in the NFL outside of the first round not to sign his contract
There’s no way this is money related IMO.
Predictions:
KC will be a Superbowl favorite in 2012
