In Thursday night's final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, the Kansas City Chiefs "core guys will get a good amount of playing time", head coach Todd Haley said. That'll be the case for all the core guys, except one. Bob Gretz reports that G Ryan Lilja will not play on Thursday night, presumably due to an undisclosed injury.
He'll be replaced at guard by C Rodney Hudson, who has seen some time at guard this preseason when C Casey Wiegmann was at center, so the position isn't totally foreign to him. This suggests to us that, in this first year at least, Hudson will be a reserve guard in addition to his backup center duties.
Also joining Lilja on the sidelines (but on the other side of the field) will be a few Packers players including TE JerMichael Finley, WR James Jones and WR Randall Cobb, all of whom are suffering from various injuries.
The Chiefs will get a look-see at the reigning Super Bowl MVP, QB Aaron Rodgers. He sat out of Monday's practice but plans to get at least a series on Thursday night before the Packers backup quarterbacks enter the game.
