Randy Moss to the Chiefs?

Dwayne Bowe, Jonathan Baldwin, Jerheme Urban, Steve Breaston, Dexter McCuster, Verran Tucker, Jeremy Horne, blah blah blah blah. I see one, maybe two names on that list that opposing defensive coordinators need to gameplan for. Other than Dwayne Bowe, no WR on this list scares defenses. There is no clear cut #2 WR. McCluster can cause some problems for defenses, but he’s not a #2 wideout by any means. But I know of someone who can step in and fit nicely at the #2 spot and be a one year place holder for Jonathan Baldwin. He knows the offense pretty well. It’s an offense that favors his style of play. Now that training camp is over, he is at a point where he could probably be lured out of retirement by a hearty one year deal. I am referring to none other than...

Star-divide

Randy Moss. Now I know some fans have been clamoring for him for the majority of the offseason, and some don’t want him anywhere near the team. This isn’t a new debate, and I’m not the first person to call for Randy Moss to come to KC. However, I do think there is no better time than right now for Pioli to put in a call to Moss’s agent. When the Chiefs added WR Steve Breaston, some of the Randy Moss talk died down. But I don’t think Breaston’s style of play allows him to to stretch the defense and make plays down the field. Breaston is at his absolute best as a slot WR, and that’s where he should stay. He makes plays on short routes over the middle and intermediate out-routes. Jerheme Urban is the same way. Now you’re left with Jonathan Baldwin - a rookie who may take some time before hitting his stride, Jeremy Horne - an extremely raw speed receiver with questionable hands, and Verran Tucker. Moss is likely sitting at home watching some of these preseason games, knowing he should be out there. The Chiefs don’t have a standout #2 WR right now. Now think for a minute... “Do those pieces somehow fit together?” Then of course there’s the Matt Cassel/Randy Moss hookup, which in 2009 was good for 69 catches for 1,008 yards and 11 TDs.

The real moral of the story is that the Chiefs need to bring in a solid #2 wideout to be a one year stopgap. I don’t see how bringing in Randy Moss for one year can possibly hurt this team, and he is by far the best available option. You can tell me in the comments which WR would be a better option than Moss, and then I will tell you why you are crazy... Aaaaaaand let the debate begin!

Would he be replacing the KC Wolf, or Warpaint?

If it’s warpaint… I’ll take him. I’d like to see a heavy chested cheerleader jump on his back and have him run around the field every time we score!

If you’re suggesting Moss as a receiver… No thanks. The man failed his way off of 3 teams in one year. He’s not a solution any more. He may have been a solution 5 years go, but he’s not that player any more. Randy Moss in his prime… absolutley! Randy Moss of 2010-2011… I’d rather dig up Ben Franklin and send his corpse out on a go route.

Moss is totally done, anyone who needs proof just needs to rewatch his games from last season (it won’t take long, he only played in a couple).

Pioli isn’t in the business of wasting money on washed up players and that’s all Moss is at this point.

Moss has been my favorite player since I was a kid

But I don’t think he ends up here, no matter how badly I’d like him to.

i dunno man

at this point, i’d take him over Urban, our current #2 wideout. wouldn’t you?

Frankly, I don't see it as an improvement on the field

And it’s a big step down in the locker room. Moss made zero impact on the field on 3 separate teams last year.

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

not to guide him,

to be a stopgap for him. haley will guide him, not moss. and i think next offseason, baldwin will go to Fitz’s WR camp and learn a thing or two and then be great

when I meant guide I meant more like example

moss is like a getting the secret box, mystery on what your going to get. I feel the risk out ways the reward on this case. If you feel Baldwin will go to fitz next year, lets wait til then and keep him cancer free for now.

As Mas Cervezas Said

I’d much rather have TO than Randy Moss, say what you will about TO, but when on the field he performs and goes all out, and works hard in practice. The same can’t be said for Randy

by GracieKal on Aug 27, 2011 6:26 PM CDT reply actions

TO isn't any more productive at this stage in his career than Randy

and both are locker room distractions that would do nothing but feed any potential diva-behavior Baldwin has up his sleeve. If Baldwin isn’t a diva already, he would be after spending a season with Randy Moss or TO.

Uhh Yeah he is

TO runs the full route tree, Randy doesn’t even run the go route anymore

by GracieKal on Aug 28, 2011 9:55 PM CDT up reply actions

But. . .

TO does crunches in his driveway. Abs on TO are what arms are to TJ.

Haha, but no. To either. Although, if I HAD to take one, it’d be TO. Randy has to be the center of attention for you to get any effort out of him. JC and the running game is our center point of our offense. Randy doesn’t block either.

i call bullshit

you know if moss signed tomorrow, you would say, “ok, NOW we’re contenders for a playoff win”

think about it this way: one of two things will happen. 1) we sign moss for one year $2 million and he fails and we cut him, no harm no foul, we’re still WAY under the salary cap… OR 2) we sign moss for one year $2 million and he puts up 55 catches for 880 yards and 8 TDs (not unreasonable for him at this point)

its a no-lose situation. he’s not going to damage Baldwin. he’s never shown a history of doing that to young impressionable players

Dude! that BS is flying right back to ya ...

if Moss was on roster I’d be busy sending a letter-bomb to Pioli … I’d defect to being a Bills Chargers Raiders Ravens fan

think about the Vikings … had it ready to go last year, Moss is cut by Pats and then the Vikes go into total meltdown … Moss moves on to Titans and THEY do the same thing … and you’re not concerned about “damage” to “young impressionable players” EVEN WHILE he have a rookie 1st Round WR with a BROKEN THUMB already

I say bring him in.....

it can’t hurt in my opinion. I don’t believe he’s a distraction. Like you said, he’ll come cheaply and if it doesn’t work out, cut him. The problem I do see with signing him, though, is that it potentially takes a player away from our special teams like Copper/Tucker. Who do you replace with Moss (depending on how many WR’s we carry).

by tmurawsk on Aug 28, 2011 7:39 AM CDT reply actions

Well since Moss does nothing but run deep routes, and Cassel has had bout 2 secs to throw i'd pass.

If u can’t block it won’t matter who your wideouts are, simple as that.

Randy Moss?

The bald guy? From NFL network?

by ChiefsFanInTexas on Aug 28, 2011 8:37 AM CDT reply actions

No, for these reasons:

1) there is no need for a receiver other than a #1 because Cassel only gets to the first receiver in his progression before forcing the pass to him (Bowe) or dumping to the safety valve.

2) Everything everyone else has said.

If we wanted a receiver, we could have just gotten #85 before the Pats….

IF we picked up Moss,

And that would be a very big IF, we wouldn’t do it before the season started. Such a panic move would only come after we clearly saw that our current options are no better than Chambers was. Personally, while it might be fun to watch, I don’t see it happening.

Ancora imparo.

by midcalchief on Aug 28, 2011 11:06 AM CDT reply actions

Just the facts

Moss is a deep threat, but we can’t throw deep for two reasons, 1 O line, 2 QB bIg mistake letting Waters go, our draft this year was terrible, the one bright spot I see is linebacker Houston, and he plays that position better than Studabaker, the Rams were able to run out side because Studabaker could not contain, and continued to allow the Ram to run out side. For what its worth, with a offensive line like we have this year we need a mobil quarterback who can tuck and run at a moments notice, and I notice Matt Cassel is not mobil, be ready #2 quarterback at a moments notice.

by Kc 58 on Aug 28, 2011 9:39 PM CDT reply actions

umm

any OL troubles are not due to Waters’ absence. He is ably replaced. It is RT. How would BW have helped RT?

Our draft was horrible?? you might want to study it again.
