Larry Johnson Is Back In The NFL

Some things I just don't understand.

The Miami Dolphins have been working out a number of veteran running backs including Tiki Barber, Clinton Portis and Larry Johnson. Of all those, LJ would be the one I definitely would not sign.

The Dolphins disagreed with me:

The Dolphins officially announce the signing of RB Larry Johnson.

What a mistake for the city of Miami.

Cmon ups...

we all know greed and corruption are at home in DC…they just keep a winter home in Miami

To make a bad day worse, spend it wishing for the impossible.

I've had the same dream every night this week. I think it means that the spring season flopped and my subconscious has gone into reruns.

by chiefsandcigars on Aug 23, 2011 11:37 AM CDT up reply actions

DC corruption practiced by professionals...

but in Miami it is an artform practiced by everyone.

Tremendous culture shock when I moved from Ft. Lauderdale to Olathe. I found it hysterically funny when I went to the convenience store in Lawrence; a can of Fix-a-Flat cost $1. That’s the kind of thing that would cost $10 in Miami because they KNOW you must need it. Right? Got off the plane in KC and on the way to my luggage people were saying “excuse me, excuse me”. I thought it was a foreign language. I hadn’t heard that expression my entire 17 years in Florida. I had totally forgotten about it. I could go on forever.

He was an elite back for at least a couple years.

I don’t like him any more than the next guy, but to say it was all the offensive line is a lot of bullshit. Priest Holmes had a great offensive line too, but nobody is questioning what he did.

by Tarkus on Aug 23, 2011 11:54 AM CDT up reply actions

I have no problem admitting that Priest Holmes also benefited tremendously from that line.

He was just less of an asshole about it.

Sadly

He has an opportunity to succeed there. It’s not like the Miami RB corps is chock full of gamebreakers. If he has anything left he might make the team and see some work. I’m hoping that does not happen as he does not deserve to make one cent.

the joke is on miami now

LJ, a big power back. LOL He gets hit n he stops in his track afraid of getting hurt. that why he has 2.7 average instead of keeping his legs moving n going forward with his big body to gain 3 to 5 xtra yards. biggest 1rst rd pick mistake.

I know we also gave him a ton of carries the previous year, and I'm sure that was also a factor.

But I do think it’s interesting that Johnson’s yardage total dropped from 1700 to 500 after Will Shields retired.

I wonder how long it will be before LJ's dad calls up Sporano to complain about LJ's lack of playing time.

That’s the most bush league thing I’ve ever heard of, when his dad called up Vermeil. That’s something a delusional dad would do to a high school coach. That LJ Sr is a D1 coach makes it even more embarrassing.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

Kind of fitting

That city I am sure really fits LJ. Got to say even though it didn’t work out with him, hope he does well in Miami. I know, I know, I should be wishing him ill-will but I’ll save that for our actual competitors. LJ matched up with Reggie Bush…. it just seems so fitting.

Personal feelings for LJ aside.

Did he stay in football shape? Last I heard he was on a beach in the Bahamas or something. Wouldn’t be hard to beat out Tiki, he’s been behind a desk.

Not sure he was in shape when he was playing, his last couple years.

So I doubt if very much. In fact, I’m surprised he was even still looking for a job.

by Tarkus on Aug 23, 2011 12:39 PM CDT up reply actions

People dont realize Lj has been living in Miami for quite some time

And don’t forget that some chiefs fans don’t forget what he did for us in the past, let it go already, remember there are players in the NFL that are responsible for killing people. Sure i never accepted some of the crap Lj did off the field, but on the field i always supported him because he was for a few years the only reason we had anything to cheer about. And yeah his numbers went down when Roaf / Shields retired, but dont you recall us going through 2-3 different starting QB’s because our Line couldn’t block?

The bashing is enough, i come here everyday and read everything, im a PROUD Chiefs fan, but it still makes me shake my head that some people just wont let this go, and why do you guys call him Mr 2.7 when it was actually 2.9?

by LeaveLJalone419 on Aug 23, 2011 12:40 PM CDT reply actions   1 recs

I intended no bashing, I was asking about his physical condition. I haven’t forgotten what he accomplished on the field, he was very close to becoming the Chiefs all time leading rusher before being traded.
