The Ten Or-So Difference-Making Chiefs In 2011
The Ten Or-So Difference Making Chiefs In 2011
10. Justin Houston -
This speculated pot-smoking lazy diva looks very comfortable and very, very natural out on the field. Give Justin six weeks of hard Haley-body training and no one will see that light 270 pounds headed their direction. Romeo and Tamba are teaching this kid how to win by playing physical suffocating defense.
09. Dustin Colquitt -
Looking at our athletic talent across the board makes me believe our special teams this season will be punishing. Blah, blah, blah, kick-offs are ruined; but don't you forget about our boy DC. Haley sees this as an area to really take advantage of this season and he will do whatever it takes to win the field position battles. Punting sucks, but I will go on record saying #50 will get a STs TD in 2011.
08. Le'Ron McClain -
This protector of our lord and savior JC will make a (heavily felt) difference to our offense. Our offense staying on the field after all those crucial 3rd and shorts will put more points on the board; allowing our defense to recover properly on the sidelines. He's one of those attitudes (forthright) that will only make the guys around him better.
07. Jim Zorn -
I am counting on Zorn to really (I mean REALLY) apply some pressure on Cassel this season. Remember though, this could take a little while to come to fruition. Both Cassel and Zorn barely know each other, and Cassel will have to adjust (again) to his coach. With that said, I'm not sure there is anything more our QB could ask for in terms of having the right people around him to succeed. I don't think anyone will blame Zorn if Cassel disappoints in the future.
06. Kendrick Lewis -
A true leaderman (should be a word). This least talked about Chief had no problems showin' off his brainpower in 2010. We felt it when he was absent as a rookie and I don't see (or don't want to) this guy slowin' down in his second year. He'll be better (and healthier) than he was last season. He wants to be recognized, so please continue to ignore him until he proves he wants it the most.
05. Dexter McCluster -
This bottled rocket lil' fireball should get no less than three.775 touches per quarter running the ball. I'd have no problem seeing DMC take on more carries than both McClain and TJ. Cassel has never seemed to feel comfortable throwing it Dexter's way (possibly for good reason); but Palko made him look good by himself, even while looking bad doing it. Wrap your head around that one. Maybe the scrubs were in blah blah blah.
04. Tyson Jackson -
Wax on wax off, is this TJ's year to become another Chief's Pro Bowl snuff? Good things happen to those that work hard, and this bustless monster has been doing just that. If he makes a veteran impact and reaches another level in 2011, our defense could (will) be great.
03. Dwayne Bowe -
Until recently (sometime in the last year) I didn't care if Bowe left Kansas City. Bowe and Cassel have now built a pleasing trust betwixt one another. We all shouldn't give Haley the glory either. He worked his ass off for his team, a Chiefs team he now believes in. Call me crazy, but Bowe isn't going to let his teammates down in 2011.
02. Eric Berry -
A post from MN recently said it best; Berry has to be out there voicing strongly. He earned the respect from everyone as a rookie, and learned what it's like to play football at the highest level. If our coaches are effectively using and teaching him along in his career, we will see immediate discernible impact every single game.
01. Tamba Hali - .

00. Jamaal Charles -
I haven't been this (outstretched arms) excited to watch a Chief in a very long time. My queasy stomach turns my homer innards upside-down every time he blesses the ball by touching it. If you don't think we've seen Charles ceiling(raise your hand)? Offensive-line-smoshensive-line, I think we can trust our coaches to get the guys up front ready for battle.

Makes it easy to read. No take on Tamba? Or just that nothing really needs to be said?
Tamba Hali
Nuff said.

Speaking of Tamba
Outside this morning I nearly stumbled on a gorgeous seven-foot gopher snake. I’m glad he’s around though, they keep the ratt-lers out.

I was once fired from a job two days after I waited on Matt Cassel and his wife Lauren Killian. Totally my AP moment to remember. Unfortunately also one of my stupidest moments.

My one point of departure...
I don’t see Le’Ron McClain helping JC as much as TJ this year. JC runs through open spaces and cuts like a chicken on speed. You saw it in the Baltimore game once or twice, where putting a big powerful man in front of JC will slow him down more than free him up.
IMHO – the presence of Breaston, Baldwin and Moeaki on the field open up JCs run game more than a lead blocker.
Otherwise, agree with most.

I think Tyson Jackson is going to have a great year
He’s the one guy I really think makes the biggest jump from last season to this season. Followed closely by McCluster, who was my fav pick in that draft to be completely honest. Loved him since I heard we looked at Sproles, before SD franchised him. I looked for players similar in the draft and watched him in senior bowl practices. Kid’s going to make a difference this year.

I'm really pulling for McCluster and Houston
A lot of fans are down on McCluster, saying that he was a wasted pick, etc. When I was at work (I work in a bar) and I saw us drafting him in the second I flipped out. RUNNINGBACK?!
After getting home and checking him out, I was pretty excited. He had flashes of potential his rookie year, but I’m excited to see what he can do out of the backfield. If we line him and JC up back there and motion him out, or both of them out, there’s millions of possibilities.
Also excited for Houston because of how far he fell in the draft, and how much hate he was getting when he didn’t sign right away. Kid looks good, and we haven’t heard anything about his attitude. I hope he’s one of our defensive staples for years to come.
Good Read...And I Agree...
I think having a true #2 wideout will benefit our offense more than having another punisher in the backfield. I can’t wait to see our offensive and defensive variation now that we have a bunch of talent and both sides of the ball. I am especially excited to see double tight end sets, JC & DMC split backs, blitz packages, and more…
This will be a great season!!!

No mention of new NT.
He may be past his prime, but Kelly Gregg is a step up from NTs we rotated for only mediocre results last year. IMO Gregg will influence an improved level of play for all those around him. Although a small margin in each individual case, the accumulative effect should be quite noticable. I see DEs applying more pressure. I see ILBs with more open runs to ball carrier. I see OLBs able to be more effective at setting edge on runs and SOLB more impactfull when sent after QB.

I'm really *really* excited to have Gregg this year.
I think he’s going to make a much bigger impact than a lot of people realize, assuming he stays healthy.
The Chiefs and I have mutually agreed on this decision and although I look forward to continuing my career, I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Kansas City.
