Randy Moss Retires From The NFL After 13 Seasons
Earlier this morning there was a rumor floating around that the Kansas City Chiefs could be interested in free agent WR Randy Moss.
So much for that -- Moss announced his retirement through his agent in comments distributed to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Moss goes down as one of the greatest receivers ever, maybe the second greatest behind WR Jerry Rice. He ends his career eighth in all-time receptions, fifth all-time in receiving yards and second behind Rice in touchdown receptions.
He was magnificent early in his career and even better at times in the latter part of his career catching a single-season record 23 touchdowns in the New England Patriots undefeated 2007 regular season.
Check out the video above of NFL Network's top 100 players on Moss.

For the best
Dont see him fitting in well, going purely by role, here in KC.

Happy trails, Randy
Your play should be your legacy. Hopefully your off-the-field-crap doesn’t overshadow it.
First-ballot HOFer?

Very probably.
Last year didn’t do him in favors, certainly, but he should be okay big picture.

First ballot? probably not
too much baggage, disappeared for a couple years at different points in his career.
First Ballot without question
He benefits in part by the position he played (WRs are much more likely to get their due than OL for example).
But seriously, dude was a freak athlete. I’m of the belief that in any given decade there are gonna be two 1st ballot HOFers at a position like WR. Moss and TO are those guys from the last decade.

Shannon Sharpe set every record when he played
And he wasn’t a first ballot HOFer because of his mouth.
Chris Carter is number 2 in everything and he wasn’t a first ballot because of off the field stuff
He holds the record for taking the most plays off.

Good points
Hard to say with Moss.
Favre is about a sure-fire 1st ballot HOFer as it gets, and he’s had some off-field crap the last few years, as well as some down years. So its really hard to say

Favre has all time career records
and won a Super Bowl. Favre is a lock first ballot. Moss was great at what he did, but a first ballot HOFer is a sacred thing
Was Irvin a first ballot?

I think I'm gonna have to agree with you
If Irvin wasn’t a first ballot with his Super Bowl wins, Moss won’t be for his statistical achievements, imo.
You sold me, Ram. If you have a car to sell, now’s the time :-)

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
He is arguably the 2nd best WR of all time.
Baggage shmaggage.
The year Moss and Favre go in, they should just allow 2.

You have to be joking
2nd best wide receiver ever? Guy was a physical freak that ran go routes, admitted to not playing all the time, and disappeared for 3 years in his career. Come on now
agreed, Ram
he COULD have been 2nd best or whatever IF he’d given his best day in and day out, every week of every year …
as it is now, he’s just another “used to be a good WR” who happens to have some good stats … n2bd Best of all time? no, he hasn’t EARNED that

Ok, best ever.
Think how good he would have been, had he actually tried!

Yeah... Same with Chris Webber and Vince Carter
Still doesn’t make them in the “best ever” talk
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
I am not sure Moss even makes my top 5 WR's of the modern era
Rice, Carter, Harrison, Bruce, and Irvin..or Lofton, or Reed, or even Tim Brown.
Ryan Succop will be the kicker for the AFC in the 2011 Pro Bowl
FIRST BALLOT.....DUH!
Highest scoring player on the two highest scoring offenses of all timei f he would have had a quarterback that could throw the ball well his entire career he would probably be in the conversation for greatest wide receiver of all time

Translation;
Everybody offered him minimum wage and he declined. Probably the only reason he was even being looked at by us, was because he was cheap.
God Bless America and especially Jopln Missouri
BTW…first post, been reading religiously for a while, Im stoked for the Chiefs this year, PASS THE KOOLAID!!!
WELCOME!

2016 HOF class (according to me)
Brett Favre
Randy Moss
Kurt Warner (2nd year on ballot)
Willie Roaf (Gets no love until ’16)
Marvin Harrison (Gets overlooked a couple years for shooting that dude)

That would be one hell of a class.

I would agree.
The one downside was his throwing teammates and coaches under the bus, but no question, he practiced hard and played hard. And as you said, he could do more than one thing on the field.
I agree that T.O. wasn't a great team mate. I've never been a fan for that reason.
But it’s not like Moss was, either.

I'm thinking about sueing Brett Favre.
I wish I never saw that thing. Now I have to live with that memory of little Brett, popping into my head whenever he feels like it, like he has a mind of his own.
Damn it.
There should some sort of memory loss inducement pill or something.

More WR Help!
I would STILL offer him a contract IF I was Scott Pioli! 4 Wide? Bowe, Breaston, Baldwin and Moss? Ummm, how would you cover it?

Old school fans remember Moss and Eric Warfield
Eric was a s turned cb with great athletic ability but never could forget he was a last round pick. Vikes and Chiefs practiced together and Moss destroyed him their rookie year and Eric went in a shell. He eventually became a starter (though never what Marty thought he could be) and a year later in camp Moss yelled “look at Warfield trying to get good”!
