Looking At A Couple Of Chiefs Free Agency Rumors
The NFL rumor mill is churning as we enter our second week of free agency and there are a couple of rumors out there involving our Kansas City Chiefs, both of them reported by Aaron Wilson of FOX Sports.
The first one was revealed by Wilson on 810 WHB this morning and it's surprising. He's heard the Chiefs are kicking the tires on free agent WR Randy Moss. He's definitely a big name, that's for sure, but I just don't see why the Chiefs would be interested. They've already got a lot of mouths to feed on offense and Moss' main strength -- speed -- usually doesn't get better with age. Maybe it happens but I just can't see why. It's interesting to note that Pioli's former co-worker, Bill Belichick, traded him away last year and Moss didn't do anything the rest of the year.
The second one, also reported by Wilson, involves former Baltimore Ravens FB Le'Ron McClain. He says the Chiefs are interested in him and Pioli is doing his due diligence. This one makes a little more sense than Moss but I can tell you this -- as of Saturday, the Chiefs hadn't talked with him. Again, maybe it happens but they haven't talked to him yet.
So those are the two latest rumors making the rounds and we'll undoubtedly hear more as the week goes on.

Moss would be a dumb move
Guy killed two teams psyche and nearly killed another last year. That’s a record. No thanks. Plus what would that mean our first round pick would be our #4 WR? Sorry, just don’t see how he would be a positive influence on a still developing team.

I think he was referring to Baldwin being pushed to #4.
If everyone worked as hard as me, I would be out of a job.

Baldwin would still be #2 is what I believe Ram is saying which I also agree with

And yes
I did mean Baldwin would still be number 2 in the base offense. I’m sure there would be situations Moss would be on the field and Baldwin wouldn’t but Baldwin would still be #2. Moss has never been known as a great run blocker which is a huge thing for Haley and our offense
He has a thing with misinterpreting peoples comments

Didn't misinterpret anything bud
I asked you a question and you took 3 replies to answer it. Maybe your wording had a little to do with how your comment was taken.
It wouldn't have
I was just playing with my 2 year old at the same time so I didn’t get all my thoughts in at the same time. I apologize for that. And in reality I explained it pretty well with the first response. I will try to group everything together nicely for you from now on. And since we’re on the subject of not wording things correctly maybe you should notice what happened above with the way you worded your comment. I understand what you meant now that you explained it. Much as I was trying to do in the other post. The only issue I took was that I was really just trying to explain what I meant and you continued to say that I was insinuating something that I had already said I wasn’t.

I probably should have substituted the first 'him'
for Moss, but like you I knew what I wanted to say. No big deal, you explained yourself and I understand what you were saying. Thats why I asked the question
I know
No hard feelings. It wasn’t a big deal. I just for some reason felt like it was more of a pointed question than it was. It was partially the comment someone made in response to your original response and it came back on you also. So for that I apologize.

Only upside is that our QB has thrown to him before. Somehow I can’t see the Haley/Moss association ending well. Moss has always taken plays off and that won’t work on the Chiefs.
McClain still intrigues me
Would probably be our last “big” FA signing. I’d prefer we grab another RT, personally, since we’ve already improved competition at SILB and shored up NT.
But McClain would be a good move, and would perhaps calm the masses.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
Would probable be our only ''big'' FA signing.

I hate the whole "OMG HE'S A TEAM KILLER" angle I hear so often.
But I don’t see the need for another WR. We need more trenchmen, we have enough playmakers.

How so?
Very good career with the Vikings, did nothing with a bad Oakland team, record breaking time with Patriots.
Last year was a struggle, but that doesn’t make him a team killer.

by craig in calgary on Aug 1, 2011 11:25 AM CDT up reply actions
The thing with Moss is that he amplifies the culture of the team he's on
When he started his career with the Vikings, they were a brash, flashy, and winning culture (kinda like the current Jets). He amplified that.
When he went to Oakland, it was a losing, desperate, and mismanaged culture. He amplified that. When he went to NE, it was a winning, professional, and business culture. He amplified that. The second stint with the Vikings as well as the Titans last year, two organizations in disarray and full on mutiny and Moss was just the amplification of the negative sentiments there.
Moss is the more emotive manifestation of the overall culture of the team he joins. He has no poker face, but he doesn’t define the team he’s on, rather he reflects it. That’s why I don’t see a problem with him coming here. But I’m with Craig, I don’t see it as a need.

I had never thought of it that way. bring on moss!
After the playoff game last year, it really feels good to be saying that.
I don’t see the need for another WR. We need more trenchmen, we have enough playmakers.
Anyone see us giving mcclain the lions share of Jones's carries from last year?
Even if we brought him in to be the primary fullback to block for Charles, he has shown that he’s capable of being a primary back when needed. If like to see how defenses would handle both Charles and Mcclain on the field at the same time, not knowing who we could hand the ball off to.
This could transition TJ slowly away into the last year of his contract, while keeping him fresher for the long haul of the season,.and gives us options with the carry split past this season

I think we're fine at FB
I would like Mc’Clain but not at a huge price. Cox is an average FB, the brass obviously likes Bannon and I’ve heard nothing but good from the camp reports. Also the converted RB Tervaris Jackson moved to FB before he got hurt and could be a pleasant suprised. Always room to upgrade but no need to break the bank.
Why do you care about the price?
Looks like we won’t be anywhere near the cap until legally mandated to.

Just to be clear

FB/RB
He can block for Charles and also carry the ball. He wants more carries which we can give him and he is also an upgrade at FB for us. Its a win win situation

2. His social media. Guy is obnoxious
I'm not against the signing, I'm all for it.
I’m just saying our FB depth isn’t terrible with Cox, Bannon, and Tervaris.
I recall a post on AP awhile back,
in which Mo Carthon Stated that Bannon was the "most violent " fullback he had seen. Anyone recall this?

Anytime you can add a motivated Randy Moss
Sign him up. This is the reason for the “right 53”. You get a lockerroom full of good guys, and after you’ve done that you can bring in a bad apple here and there and the rest can keep them in line. Sign him cheap and if he isn’t motivated, cut his ass. Low risk, high reward. Patriots have been doing this for years, I was wondering when we would get our first bad apple. We just needed to get the good locker room guys first.

Yes, and we don't need him anyway.
We now have a very good receiver group. Maybe the best we have ever had. Time will tell, of course.
Pioli said this morning on 810

Does Gilberry factor into the base more often after he bulked up?
Did that help his run defense? No one knows at this point. If so Gilberry behind Dorsey, Bailey behind Tjax(not a huge fan of that since Tjax is behind from injuries and Bailey is a rook) DE depth looks alright. NT is quite shallow Gregg then Powe and then possibly Anthony.. nothing to write home about.
If Warren comes cheap then its a great deal, if hes not that cheap I would rather be hearing about NT help than more money at the DEs

I think the cost would be worth it
Since Warren will probably be able to become the starter. Heck, didn’t Pioli draft Jackson to be his Ty Warren? Who better to teach him the position.

Randy Moss is retiring

Well... at least all of this ridiculous Moss to Chiefs talk can stop.
Chiefs Revised FA Wish List: True NT and a Solid RT. I'll take McClain too. Say NO to Moss and Owens. Also, pay them: Carr, Flowers and Hali.
Lack of depth at QB still has me concerned.
Especially after listening to Zorn yesterday in the media. Seems like Palko and Stanzi are long term projects. Doesn’t make me feel very comfortable in the short term.

I've always wanted a veteran backup.
I’m not sure what the point of Palko is. He’s not really a veteran backup, and he’s not much of a developmental guy, either.
Practice Tebow clone.
He’s a mobile-ish left handed quarterback.

Gimme Ty Warren and Ryan Harris
Harris seems like an ideal fit for us. He can start out in camp and if he gets injured again we throw in BRich who is a capable starter
BOOM!
just heard
Ty Warren will be visiting the chiefs on 810 radio

I don't think it will be permanent.
Moss is only 34. He’s only a few months older than Plaxico. Rice didn’t retire til he was in his 40s. Owens is 37. I think we’ll see a bunch of Randy Moss news once injuries start piling up.
I bet he did talk to the chiefs
but they were probably not willing to poney up to much money. so if you have no suitors retirment.

Blah
He’s the guy that if I was an NFL exec, I’d sign him to a veteran minimum contract LOADED with incentive pay. Pay him by the yardage and touchdowns. Bonuses for so many yards or touchdowns over the entire season.
Chiefs Revised FA Wish List: True NT and a Solid RT. I'll take McClain too. Say NO to Moss and Owens. Also, pay them: Carr, Flowers and Hali.
and then watch him bitch & moan over not being targeted enough
Predictions:
KC will be a Superbowl favorite in 2012
He's gotta work to get open...
For someone with such ‘great’ natural talent and football skills, that shouldn’t be a problem.
If you sign him to the right offense, he might be the best option.
Imagine him lining up opposite of Fitz in AZ or Johnson in HOU. Somebody will be open.
He could go back to OAK.

Difference is those 2 wideouts
were complete receivers. Moss runs vertical, speed is the first attribute to go.
Arrowhead Pride's twitter account saying Chiefs bringing Ty Warren in for a visit
I wonder if that would make Gilberry an option to be traded? I would like to see him stick around but many thing he could be a better fit in a 4-3.

I think I'd rather keep Gilberry and see what we've got.
The guy seems motivated to bring it right now.

We are keeping Gilberry, for at least this year anyways
For now he will still be a subpackage rusher, he has bulked up and we don’t know how that will factor into his play style

I guess if they thought he wasn't gonna stick around next year
they could always franchise him and trade him then. Assuming there wasn’t one of Chiefs other big name FA’s still unsigned.

I guess I just have read some stuff about him maybe being trade bait
how many DE’s would we usually keep? I think a rotation of Gilberry/Bailey/Jackson/Dorsey/Warren sounds pretty damn nice to me!

You hit the rotation on the nose
Bailey is gonna surprise some people this year too. We spend over half the time in the nickel anyway so NT isn’t really the biggest deal in the world
Jets are shopping Cotchery
I would throw a sixth rounder at them to see if they bite. Cotchery can be another slot receiver with good hands.

Again?!?

Yeah
I think he’s making the rounds to all 27 teams he has played for and retiring with them all.

McClain consistently making implications at the Chiefs...
…before any kind of deal is even in place reminds me a lot of the John Henderson situation last year.
Me neither. I remember Harry and the Hendersons, however.
