A Double Whammy moment for Scotty Pioli

A Double Whammy? Is our beloved Gm, who I think of as SCotty, prepared for a rain on the Chief's Parade Moment? I have been a harbinger of disaster on this site for awhile, to many conspiracy novels maybe, but it keeps my mind busy thinking about what if? That is one of the good things about Scott that impresses me, he seems to think about these things in his own way. Still here? Take the jump and I'll get back to the Double Whammy !

What if Mike Vrable decides to go coach football at Ohio State and, AND, Tamba Hali receives a monster deal from somebody who has no problem with giving up the draft choices? WTF just happened to our team, we are down TWO starting OLB's. Many, including myself, our hoping Vrabel retire and takes the job coaching at OSU and think we are in good shape with a few players vying for playing time in that position. Having to fill Hali's spot would put a big hole in our pass rush and leave us thinned out with candidates with the need to fill in the LB position on the other side. Or would it?

Our GM may have already prepared for this eventuality. How so you ask? Take a step back in time and look at our roster. Houston, Sheffield, Bailey ring any bells? How about Walters, Miller or Williams? There are others like Studebaker as well. How about Giberry in Hali's spot? We actually have some pretty good talent, albeit unexperienced talent, for those positions. It is the place that without the loss of Hali and/or Vrable, where I was looking forward to training camp battles with the most anticipation. If we lose those guys it's the place where all eyes will be watching the most.

I know most assume Hali gets a deal done here, but as of now he is NOT under contract with our team and that has to be taken into the equation. Hopefully, all the reports that say the standard BS about how a player "likes this city and really wants to remain" are true for us with Tamba and happens. But a GM knows that things don't always go as expected and you cannot assume anything. This type of scenario may answer some questions about Scotty's drafting plans, how so many LB's were reached for instead of Tackle or WR prospects.

So if a Double Whammy moment happens, it may not be as unexpected to our GM as to us fans. I already am wanting to see Houston start in Vrable's spot, but if Hali is spirited away by another team that would change the dynamic somewhat. Trying to project, okay speculate, the future is a losing proposition and I won't get into anymore. I won't show you my projected line-up, as I want Carr in it as well, and that is a whole other Whammy moment. Anyhow, Go Chief's!!!
