Major Nose-Tackle Position The Chiefs Can't Avoid
Although The Pioli and the Chiefs have Done a good job by filling the slot position by reeuniting Steve Breaston ad Haley, They are far from done in this "Free Agent Frenzy". With Ron Edwards out of the chiefs D-line, and who knows about NT Shaun Smith, The chiefs really need to snag a real big, physical Nose Tackle. Someone like 49er's NT Aubrayo Franklin. That Scenario Just make's too much sense for it not to happen. Pioli has yet to dissapoint us in such a crusial time in Free-agnecy. So why will he now? What do you guys think? I'll make another quick post on my thoughts Every once in a while, but when I make another one, I hope I';m not Ranting about how the Chiefs Let Franklin slip away and have yet to fill The NT position.

Still think Kelly Gregg is a better option.
Smart guy who is team oriented. He’ll be able to teach Powe the position. Most importantly, he won’t break the bank…which means we can get started on some of those big contracts of our own.

I'm OK with Gregg, although if I'm going for guys like him, I'd like to see another guy in camp, in addition to Shaun Smith.
I can see both Gregg and Franklin as guys we like more because of whom they play next to.

I'm with you...
I do think the total media blackout on Franklin screams Pioli, so I’m starting to think they got him. But I’m high on Powe and woukd like to see him developed by sharing the load, and Gregg fits that mold better than Franklin and the huge contract he likely wants (and likely gets.) Plus the Chiefs did extend Toribio last year, so he may not be out of the mix, either. Gregg and Powe splitting snaps with both on the bench in passing situations, plus a sprinkle of Toribio to see if he can be coached up? Sounds good to me!
"When I was just a baby, my momma told me "Son... always be a good boy. Don't ever play with guns." But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die..."
I've often said negative things about Toribio.
But he knows his assignment and seems to have good vision. Just not quite enough lead in his ass, imo.
Chiefs just got bigger at LB. I wonder if that was a factor in their vision of the role of the NT.
I wonder if they’re going to make ANY significant move. (sigh)
Of course, NOT making any big moves is, in itself, a damn big move! I almost don’t care what they do, at this point. I just want to have everything settled.

I am just glad we passed on Phil Taylor. We'll get somebody
don’t worry. and it will probably be Franklin in about 12-16 hours. If not who cares we’re fucked anyway because our FO would be out of their minds to not do something
Pick 21: OLB Justin Houston
Pick 30: C Rodney Hudson
Pick 86: NT Kenrick Ellis. (Ellis in the 3rd = Taylor in the 1st + 1st round pick).
Problems solved. Please forget about Phil Taylor.
Only the Chiefs or Patriots could be this tight lipped
About something we all know is going to happen. It’s gotta be Franklin.
I want Franklin but
I think part of the holdup on getting a deal done would be the length of the contract. Franklin wants what might be his last lengthy deal while I would think the Chiefs would feel more comfortable with a 2-3 year deal so Powe can develop behind Franklin but not rot on the bench. If Franklin does try and hold out for a long term deal would the Chiefs be kind of forced to pick between him and Powe now?

The best possibility behind Franklin
is Kelly Gregg from the Ravens or if truely desperate, Pat Williams from the Vikings
a 3-4 year deal with escalators is perfect
If Powe develops then Frankln becomes expendanble. Franklin gets a lot in a bonus, then start his salary off low, which you can justify because you gave him such a large amount up front, then go something like that $2 million, $4, $6, and $8.
That $8 million is something Franklin will want to earn. Powe will want to get his next big contract. Having two good nose tackles is a great situation. But this scenario covers the Chiefs as long as one of them is a bonafide starter still in 2014.
Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm.

so tell us what you thing, Bajah ... SHOULD the Chiefs sign Franklin?

Better question
Will Franklin CHOOSE the Chiefs?

That could be a big factor.
Have the Chiefs “made their bones” as a good org after the one playoff appearance? Personally I think that KC is generally thought of around the league as a team on the rise. Breaston didn’t waste any time.
I watched the 1st half of the KC-versus-SF game, last night. Maybe watch the 2nd half tonight. So far, Franklin hasn’t given me any reason to be excited about signing him.

That right there might be the issue, Baja.
You’re talking about escalators in the future, in a situation where the Chiefs likely want to frontload things. The current situation is a little topsy-turvy, with the need to spend big, now, and not tie your hands in the next stretch of years, when OTHER contracts need to be struck.
I’m having precognitive buyer’s remorse, already, on the Aubrayo Franklin front. I’d almost rather see ’em sign NTs in fairly large number, and take the one in best condition with the best ability to play it the way RAC wants it played.
Heh. No. If that free-for-all were anything CLOSE to the plan, at least one of Smith and Edwards probably would’ve been signed. They MUST be planning on no-doubt real-deal NT.

Sounds good to me.
Pay a productive player until he peaks, you can trade him or his contract is up and fill his spot with the drafted player you have waiting in the wings. Pioli should be able to follow the New England “Three Steps to Being a Contender” handbook. Let’s just hope that we can sign Franklin to a deal similar to your scenario and that Powe pans out. In a couple of years it would be a great problem to have.

I have pushed hard for him, but honestly know very little about him
I just want a good NT.
as for mcclain, Ive seen plenty of him, I love the guy, and at first thought he was a luxory, now I see him as a necessity in order to become physical and match our run first approach
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.
Team Colquitt
I don't see McClain as a must, but I'd love to have him on the team.
A pretty clear upgrade to the FB group, imo, from a team with other priorities. Then again, I think the Chiefs have other priorities, too. I think they can get done what needs doing and STILL make a strong bid for McClain, though.
