Maurice Leggett Reunites With Gunther Cunningham In Detroit

The agency representing former Kansas City Chiefs CB Maurice Leggett says on Twitter that Leggett is headed to the Detroit Lions. No word yet on what type of deal he got from the Lions.

The Chiefs chose not to offer him a tender as a restricted free agent which meant he was available for anyone to sign. That team is the Lions.

This move will reunite him with Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham, who was the Chiefs DC in 2008, Leggett's rookie year.

It wasn't that long ago, only three years, that Leggett was the Chiefs top rookie earning the club's Mack Lee Hill Award as an undrafted free agent.

actually

Yes. I care, as I’m sure others do as well.

I liked Leggett. He seemed like a stand up guy.

I'm not saying he's not

But coming into this season, if we would have tendered him he would have been, what? Fifth on the depth cart, if that… Flowers, Carr, Arenas, Brown , and either him or Donald Washington… I’m just saying when your non-tendered, third string CB, get’s picked up else where. Not sure it’s something to write home about… all I’m sayin’

by Stone Throwers on Jul 28, 2011 1:50 PM CDT up reply actions

i'd agree

that its not unexpected. I would have been a little suprised if they kept him.

But I think any cuts/non pickups/whatever for the chiefs are newsworthy.

a lot of things that a lot of people are talking about that aren't worth it, either

rumor and speculation is rampant … this, at least, is “solid news” and a goodbye to aa (former) member of the “family”

His non-stop tweeting

Got really annoying. Best of luck in Detroit, except for week 2.

Crowded defensive backfield

He has good size, maybe he can catch on as a role player in Detroit

RIP various 2nd round DT/DE’s we kept hoarding, that kept failing.

Is this an attempt to jump start the “trade Dorsey talks,” are you trying to say Dorsey is a failure, or do you just not know what the fuck you’re talking about?

When was Dorsey a 2nd rounder?

He’s probably referring to the Junior Siavii’s and Turk McBrides of the world.

by CapsLockKey on Jul 28, 2011 1:49 PM CDT up reply actions

When Eric Downing (may have been 3rd rounder, don’t quite remember), is considered one of your defensive line success stories from that time period, that’s when you’re in trouble.

by Topchief1 on Jul 28, 2011 1:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Whoa.

Leggett was a full seven years after Downing…and quite the change in philosophy.

I have no problem with the draft class of 2008. I would like to point out that 1 year does not have a drafting history. I apoligize if math is not your strong suit. I’m not going to look into how many of the players we draft from, lets say the 5 year periods from 03 to 07, that are still in the league, but let’s see how many players from each draft during that period are at least still on the team:

2007: 1 – (Dwayne Bowe)
2006: 1 – (Tamba Hali (I won’t count Brodie Croyle since he’s a free agent not expected to return, whereas Hali was franchised)
2005: 2 – (Derrick Johnson, Dustin Colquitt)
2004: 0
2003: 0

I will look at that as nothing more than an indictment against our drafting history at that time.

So in the 5 years leading up to the season in which Leggett won the teams rookie of the year award, only 4 players out of 38 drafted remain on this team. 2003 was only 8 years OK. So I will reiterate:

by Topchief1 on Jul 28, 2011 2:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Read your origional comment...

Maybe reading comprehension isn’t your strong point. You correlate Mo Leggs winning rookie of the year to poor drafting.

Now let me explain something to you, unless your name is Blake Griffin, you only get one chance to win rookie of the year. The only people eligible for ROY the year Mo Leggs won it were the other rookies, the 2008 draft class. So you’re suggestion that Mo Leggs winning any award is an indictment of our drafting is comment towards the 08 class. Again, players from the 03-07 classes were eligible to win the 08 ROY.

So again, I point out how asinine your comment is. Go ahead and slam Herm, that shits so fresh anyway, but don’t try to tie Mo Leggs success to Herm’s failures.

You can't live that American dream on foot, bro. Aint nobody riding horses no more.

Detroit’s problem now

Rodney Hudson will play Guard.
Jon Asamoah will be starting center by week 5

… maybe we should cut the guy now and save time
